ADMISSIONS FAQ
CHOICE APPLICATION PROCESS - The Henry C. Conrad Schools of Science is a grade 6-12
magnet program focusing on excellence in Biotechnology and Allied Health. Conrad's Choice Open
Houses are November 14th for middle school 6-8pm and November 16th for high school 6-8pm.

Apply On-Line at the District website (the on-line application takes @ 5 minutes). If you are unable to
apply on-line, please contact the District Choice office.
APPLICATION PERIOD - The 2018-2019 school Choice application period opens on the 1st
Monday in November (November 6, 2018) at 8:00am and closes January 10, 2018 at 4:00pm.
SCORING RUBRIC
A 12-point rubric is used to determine an applicant’s minimum interest and aptitude in the school’s
magnet. Points are accumulated as follows:
 2.5 GPA in Math/Science 2016/17 SY 2 points
 2.5 GPA in Math/Science 2017/18 1st MP 2 points
 Last Year’s Attendance 1 point
 Standardized Test- Math Proficiency 2 points
 Creative/Persuasive Writing Sample 2 points
 Inquiring/Interesting Interview 3 points
Students living in the former Conrad feeder receive an extra point on the rubric.
INVITATION TO LOTTERY –In-District Applicants meeting the basic requirement (7 points on the
first 4 elements above) will receive an automatic invitation to the lottery.
In-District Applicants falling short of 7 points on the first 4 elements above will have the chance to
augment their application. To do so, they must be interviewed on one of the following Saturdays:
INTERVIEW / ASSESSMENT December 9th January 20th
A student interview (@10 minutes) and writing assessment (@30 minutes) is a required component of
the application process for:
 all in-District applicants from private or home school
 in-District applicants falling short of 7 points on the first 4 elements above
Out of District applicants for grades 6-8 will be considered if seats become available after the pool of
qualified in-District students is given 1st preference.
BRING TO THE APPOINTMENT - Please bring non-returnable copies of the following:
 Current year's report card
 Previous year's report card
 Spring Standardized test scores (Smarter, DCAS, Terranova, CAT, MAP, etc.)
 Student work from science class (project, poster, test, homework, etc.)
CHOICE PREFERENCES:
Students who meet the Conrad Schools of Science requirements for admission are selected using
established criteria. A lottery system is used when there are more qualified applicants than seats.
