Underline the correct form of the verb that agrees with the subject inside the box.

Mamba (is, are) one of the twenty-five barangays of the Municipality of


Madalag. The road up to Mamba considered as a very challenging journey. From
Madalag town proper, habal-habal motorbikes (50php) can (take, takes) you to
Mamba, the jump-off point of 15-20 minutes ride. The view going to Mamba is
indeed magnificent. Mamba is an agricultural barangay. It (grow, grows) root
crops, rice and vegetable. Every 24th day of May they (are, is) celebrating religious
and barangay fiesta in honor of patron saint San Isdro Labrador for the abundance

Rules on the subject-verb agreement

General Rule:

A subject and its verb must agree in number. If the subject is singular, the verb should be
singular. If the subject is plural, the verb must be plural.

Example:

Mang Ato is a clown.

The students are sitting outside the building.

1. An intervening phrase or clause does not affect the subject verb agreement.

Example:

The actor most admired by the students is on stage.

2. Two or more singular subjects joined by or or nor must have a singular verb.

Example:

A car or a bus is the only means of travel there.

3. Two or more plural subjects joined by or or nor must have plural verb.

Example:

Only the fathers or the mothers are to be invited.


The teachers or the parents go with the students.

4. If one or more singular subjects are joined to one or more plural subjects by or or
nor, the subject closest to the verb determines agreement.
Example:

Neither David nor my parents are going with us.


5. A compound subject joined by and is generally plural and must have a plural verb.

Example:

One boy and one girl are the finalists.

Exceptions:

If the parts of a compound subject add up to one thing, the compound subject is
singular, it should take a singular verb.

Example:

Ham and eggs is a hearty breakfast.

If the compound subject is preceded by every or each, a singular verb is


required.

Example:

Every dog and cat was inoculated.

Below is an article about the Municipality of Madalag. If a sentence observes


proper subject-verb agreement, write C. If it does not, rewrite the sentence.

(1) Each tourist or guest who come to the Madalag is always amazed by its
cultural diversity. (2) Every barangay highlights a unique adventure. (3) A
variety of traditions, dishes, celebrations, and many others are offered to both
local and foreign travelers. (4) Our rich past and our promising future are
discovered by every guest almost every day and everywhere in the Municipality.
(5) For this reason, LGU headed by our Municipal Mayor Hon. Alfonso A.
Gubatina and the Tourism officers is still promoting the hidden beauty of
Madalag.
(6) The Dumalaylay part includes barangays Panipiason, Medina, Mamba,
Alas-as, Tigbawan, Napnot, Guinatuan, Dit-ana and Paningayan boasts of its
magnificent view, traditions and native dishes. (7) There are much pleasure to
discover in the Timbaban part most especially in Ma. Cristina, the Liktinon
White Rocks Formation. (8) In Poblacion, highlights the The Spanish-era Our
Lady of Guadalupe Parish Church that sit on a hill overlooking the town plaza
and municipal hall. (9) At the nearby Roman Catholic cemetery, a towering dita
tree has been declared a Philipine Centennial tree. (10) Either pleasure or warm
insights is taken home by every visitor in the majestic municipality of Madalag.

Madalag, Home of Majestic Waters.Specify the verb, which will agree with its subject in
each sentence.
