1. How did Grendel die? Beowulf caught hold of his arm, and talked to him until he couldn’t bear it
anymore, and Beowulf tore Grendel’s arm off, and he died from loss of blood.

2. T/F Unferth was grateful that Beowulf had saved his life.

3. How did the Danes and the Geats celebrate their victory?

They held a huge party in Hall Heorot, and King Hrothgar and Queen Wealtheow presented Beowulf
with many gifts. They hung Grendel’s arm on the wall.

4. What gifts to Hrothgar give to Beowulf?

One of Beowulf's favorite stories told during the festivities was about Sigemund and the Firedragon. Put
the following parts of the story in order. (Number 1-8)

__1__ Sigemund was strong as a bear and tall as a mountain tree.

___7_ The dragon had four heads – a white one that breathed air, a black on that coughed up dirt, a
green head that spouted out water, and a flamed-colored head that breathed fire.

___2_ In battle, Fitela would distract his enemies by making faces at them and calling them names.

_6___ Their plan was to swim to the dragon's island at night from different directions and then Fitela
would pull the tail of the dragon just as Sigemund attacked it from the front.

___4_ They fought in many battles together.

8____ Sigemund defeated the dragon by tying its heads in knots and forcing the black head to vomit its
dirt into the fire-head which forced the fire into its belly and it died.

__3__ Sigemund and his nephew, Fitela, were very different from one another but were very close.

_5___ They decided to go kill the Firedragon and steal all its treasure.
