The shortest length, 50, generated the lowest tension whereas the longest length, 90,
generated a higher tension but lower compared to a length that is somewhere in the
middle of the spectrum.

At a length of 50, there would be almost or no tension generated because of the lack
of space, as provided by the z lines for the myosin heads to move.

At the optimal length, 75, the myosin heads in contact with actin filaments are
numerous generating a significant amount of tension. The passive force generated in
lengths higher than 75 are caused by the protein titin due to its springlike nature.

The data shows that as the load on the muscle increases, the latent period will
increase, the distance will decrease, and the contraction duration will also decrease.
All of the weights used are isotonic concentric contractions because the muscle varied
in length unlike the one with a 2.0 gram weight wherein the length of the muscle
remained the same and can be classified as isometric contraction.

21
We can compare the following graphs and as we can observe the latent period
increases as the weight load increases.

(the latent period occurs when there is a rise in muscle tension but no movement nor
contraction of the muscle. Cross-bridge cycle and when the muscle tension exceeds
the load, muscle shortening happens.)

22
As we can see in the graph, the shortening distance decreased with heavier load.
