Maharishi Patanjali Golden Dome of Pure Knowledge, Saturday, April 23,

1994
<The Indian Government had most recently bestowed the title 'Ayur-Veda
Maharishi' on Trigunaji> What follows is a very close transcription of
his talk in the dome.
****************

Let everyone in the whole world be happy and intelligent and not sad:
this is what Maharishi wants.

The science to obtain this is available only by virtue of the grace of

God and the blessings of the enlightened Master. The rishis spent
thousands of years in the caves in the forests and the mountains in
isolation to bring out this science. Now, for us, Maharishi has made
the knowledge simple.

Have good diet and behavior. I have seen many people who already have
started experiencing enlightenment; some take longer, but they go step
by step. Some people have wrong diet and behavior and they will be
harmed by that. The aspirant must fulfill his natural duties and follow
the correct diet and behavior. We must live in this world and be
exposed to the environment; yet we are working step by step towards our
mission.

In this spiritual path, we get mental peace and good health. Mental
peace means how we can give to our family and friends and the world and
see them grow to attain bliss. It is done according to how we move;
and that is better if we move in sattvic society, among good people.

Everything comes by virtue of the food we take. The food must have a
sattvic and positive effect on mind and body.

This body must experience bliss from the materials of the world and must
work for others, so it is necessary to take good care of the
physiology. If you get to Unity Consciousness, it is only through this
physiology that it is possible. There is a lot of knowledge and
teachings in the world, but only the Vedic knowledge puts emphasis on
this physiology. If you talk about Unity Consciousness, but forget the
physiology, then he can not get to Unity Consciousness.

Vedic Science talks all about the materials in the world and relates it
all to the physiology.
There are three benefits of long life:
1. Brahman Consciousness,
2. Serving the creation that was created, and
3. How to purify the whole creation and unify all the people in the
world to become one family.

In order to obtain long life, it is necessary to focus on food. When

the unmanifest creates, there are three gunas: Rajas, Sattva, and
Tamas. The Rajas and Sattva gunas create consciousness, whereas the
Rajas and Tamas gunas create matter. Look and see that consciousness is
the food of the material. The food of consciousness is more important
than the food of the root cause. Compare for example, vegetarian diet
with a non-vegetarian diet. Then you see that the vegetarian diet
contributes to consciousness. The idea that a non-vegetarian diet is
giving strength is wrong, you can just look to the elephant and see how
strong he is. He is vegetarian.

Flesh goes to flesh (mamsa), not to the root of the tissues, to rasa
dhatu. Therefore, it bi-passes the whole cycle: of the eight dhatus
(tissues): rasa (plasma) - rakta (blood) - mamsa (muscle) - meda (fat)
- ashthi (bone) - majji (bone marrow) - sukra (semen or ovum) - ojas
(life giving principle).

And this bi-passing is destructive to the physiology. Eat food that

goes to and nourishes the rasa dhatu, then this will nourish and enliven
the whole cycle, ending with ojas. As a treatment, if one lacks blood
(rakta) then it can be infused directly, but do not drink it! If you
add blood to blood or flesh to flesh, then that bi-passes the whole
cycle of the dhatus and that is no good. If we try to bi-pass the
cycle, then the metabolism becomes weak. So far, we have discussed the
issues in terms of scientific comparison. Let us now turn to compare in
terms of Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas.

Eat Sattvic food. We want to become more sattvic and have more of the
Sattvic quality. Non-vegetarian food has Rajasic and Tamasic
qualities. The people who eat a non-vegetarian diet moreover get those
disorders which the animals had only even worse.

I will now tell a story from 1978 when I was visiting Germany. I stayed
near Dusseldorf where my brother is living. In the morning, my hosts
brought me a cup of tea in a ceramic cup. I told them: I can only
drink of metallic cups because this ceramic cup has not been washed well
and in this household, non-vegetarian food is eaten. Then they asked
me, what is the difference between milk and meat? They both seem to be
animal products. I told them, in the cycle, ahara-rasa, the milk is
made [in the beginning of the cycle, it is rasa] but meat (mamsa) is
made later on. [Rasa - rakta - mamsa - meda - asthi - majji - sukra -
ojas]. I told them, we will have a debate on this issue the next day.
If I will convince them, they will eat vegetarian but if they convince
me, I will be eating meat.

A thousand people got assembled and three people were the judges. I
presented 15 logics in favor of vegetarian diet, none of which were
accepted. It was the final logic the jury decided on. I told them when
an animal comes to the slaughter house, it is tied with a belt and
beaten so all the blood and the circulation is good. This will make a
finer quality of meat and also a better quality of the leather. Animals
know by smell and sight so they know this is the final moment. So the
animal is angry, cursing, scared, annoyed and the physiology is flooded
with tamasic qualities. All the Tamas moves with the blood. Then he is
cut and the flesh has all those qualities that moved in his
consciousness at that time: scared, anger, curse. You will get the
same by eating those.

Now, in terms of milk, the cow and the calf come together and are tied
together before the cow is milked and the mother loves the calf. The
cow has been away from the calf all day in the pastures. So when she
sees the calf, the love flows. The cow is licking and kissing the calf
and she thinks: now, the calf will drink my milk. The cow has good
qualities in the milk. Drink that milk.

You can also understand this in terms of the colours. White is sattvic
and red is tamasic. Milk is white and meat is red. This was the final
logic and that is how I won the debate.
If we eat a vegetarian diet, we will all be helping, giving, not
stealing, and be loving and good. However, there are a few vegetarian
foods that are Tamas: chilli, spices, onions, and garlic. When we are
on the path of enlightenment, then it is good to avoid those tamasic
qualities.

Moreover, pacify the doshas by your diet according to Vata, Pitta and
Kapha. We must select those foods that suit us. To find what is good
for you individually, take 5-10 days to find a list of foods. Go for
your individual self and find what is sattvic for you, and write it
down.

All the medical systems in the world I call Ayur-Veda because they are
all the science of life dealing with life. The only difference in
Ayur-Veda is that instead of harmful side-effects there are
side-benefits. The main focus of Ayur-Veda is: don't fall ill in the
first place.

Now, let us discuss long life. When God gives a life, He also attaches
a body to it and certain material values. When you have a long life,
you can be with your old parents and help them and later on, our
children can help us. We will se that they marry and have children.
This attachment with the people we love around us gives us an attachment
and a desire to live long. In Ayur-Veda there are many procedures to
fulfill this desire. Kayakalpa is one of them.

India was ruled by foreign powers, muslim etc. But the muslims did not
destroy this knowledge. The English had their own science of medicine,
so they destroyed Ayur-Veda in the belief that their own was better. It
was only through a few master-disciple relationships that this knowledge
survived. It was lost in education. In the whole world, surgery was
first described in Ayur-Veda, but that was lost under the British rule.
Ayur-Veda has all the knowledge of replacing organs, such as the heart,
putting in a steel-leg, changing organs, plastic surgery, etc. All was
very simple.

After India's freedom, all this grew again. Now, India has its own
separate ministry of Ayur-Veda. Maharishi called me and said: we want
to evolve Ayur-Veda to the full purity of Ayur-Veda. Everyone here, you
are all the family of Maharishi. The biggest medical association in the
world is the Ayur-Vedic medical association of India with 400.000
members. There are 125 colleges of Ayur-Veda and many research
institutions.

Take your pulse and spread this knowledge. It is Maharishi's desire

that everyone should have the knowledge of Ayur-Veda and do self-pulse
diagnosis. Any science in the world that works for mankind and cures
disease, I not only appreciate that ,but at times, I want to adopt it.
Go and spread Ayur-Veda to everyone. A disease free society will come
only then and fulfill Mharishi's desire.

Heaven on earth will come only when everyone will be healthy. We have
to adopt Ayur-Veda and the diet and explain the whole thing to others.
We have to continue expanding consciousness with Transcendental
Meditation and the TM-Sidhi program so all the samskaras of our previous
birth that have accumulated they do not attach in this life. All the
spiritual teachings in the world are good and they create only good.
All the different systems teach only good so go and explain our
knowledge in terms of their knowledge, so we can all grow in Sattva.
MIU's philosophy is that the whole world is my family. Think and act on
this knowledge.
