Innovation Centre and Incubation Centre

SSN Incubation Centre

SSN has set up an Incubation Centre in 2016 with funding from Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises.
The SSN Incubation Centre is part of the 100 centres and one of the first few centres in a private institution
being supported by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (M/o MSME) to promote emerging
technological and knowledge-based innovative ventures. The SSN Incubation Centre will focus on innovations by
technology and engineering start-ups in the primary areas of ‘energy’ and ‘materials’. SSN Incubation Centre will
support and develop budding entrepreneurs in the state of Tamil Nadu and the research community from SSN
College of Engineering or other engineering institutes. The aim of the Incubation Centre is to reach out to and
embrace a wider ecosystem of innovators. It will seek to foster a vibrant spirit of entrepreneurship and risk taking
among students and the larger entrepreneurial community.

SSN Innovation Centre

SSN Innovation Centre was inaugurated by Dr. Shiv
Nadar in September, 2016 with the purpose of supporting
student innovations from concept to market. The
Innovation Centre is mentored by Dr. V G Idichandy,
former Deputy Director, IIT Madras. The SSN Innovation
Centre will support with concept validation and prototype
creation for ideas being worked upon by the SSN students.
The state of the art Innovation Centre consists of all
necessary tools such as an Electronic Lab, computer tools
and softwares and fabrication lab to help students ‘Walk-
in with an idea and walk-out with a product’. Innovation
Centre projects will be considered for funding by the SSN
Incubation centre.

Research and Development

Research culture is woven into every facet of education

at SSN. Eleven departments of SSN CE are recognised
as research centres for providing Ph.D degrees. They
are EEE, ECE, CSE, IT, BME, Chemical, Mechanical,
Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and English. SSN CE
has received many externally sponsored funding for the
research projects from various agencies such as DST,
MCIT, DRDO, AICTE, MNRE, BRNS, IGCAR and a
host of others. Till April 2017, SSN has received research
funding amounting to Rs. 20 crores for 60 projects. The
areas of research focus at SSN CE are Energy, Materials
Speech Technology, Machine Learning, Healthcare
Technology and Smart Technology

The research activities at SSN are guided by a Research Advisory Council comprising of eminent researchers from
all over the country and abroad. The Research advisory council consists of

l Prof. Raj Reddy, Carnegie Mellon University, USA

l Prof. R Natarajan, former Chairman, AICTE

l Prof. N Balakrishnan, former Associate Director, Indian Institute of Science

l Dr. D Acharya, former Director, IIT Kharagpur

SSN has a dedicated research centre focussed on solving problems of the country through practical research in
the areas of Energy and Materials. The Centre works extensively with leading scientific and academic institutions
like IACS Kolkata, IISc Bangalore, IIT Madras among others.

34
Faculty
A dedicated and academically strong team of faculty members facilitate active learning at the SSN Institutions.
The faculty is encouraged to take up consultancy/research assignments in industry. This helps impart a practical
approach in the classroom. The faculty-student ratio is at a favourable 1:13. The faculty members undergo periodical
upgradation programs. All the faculty members have enthusiastically adapted the new e-Learning paradigm to
promote learner-centric and interactive teaching - learning process.

The Library
The central library has an extensive collection of books and is augmented on a continuous basis. The library
subscribes to popular periodicals, national and international journals. A large number of CD-Roms and audio
cassettes are a supplementary digital resource offered. SSN is an institutional member of the IIT, Anna University
and British Council Libraries.
Online journal database with link, IEL (IEEE & IEE) are available. Sc
