Philosophy of Life and

Lifestyle

By
Mr. Srinivas Bandameedi
Mr. R. Radhakrishnan

Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad

(Constituent of Symbiosis International University, Pune)
December 2016 – April 2017
1. INTRODUCTION:

Philosophy is in the business of examining arguments, calmly and above all rationally, on
the big issues, the big questions of Life. Life style refers to the way a person lives to one’s
own ability. Philosophy of Life & Lifestyle tries to bring a tandem between these big
arguments / questions and an individual’s life so as to minimize contradiction in thought.

2. LEARNING OBJECTIVES

This course will attempt an examination of values for living and of the variety of
systems of meaning that humans have constructed for themselves in answering life's important
questions.

We will try to answer the question "what is the meaning of life?" We might not arrive at a
complete answer, but by the end of this course, students will be familiar with some
insightful responses offered by philosophy, religion, and literature. These include:

• the meaning of life is to accept absurdity;

• the meaning of life is to create meaning in life;
• the meaning of life is to accept our place in the universe;
• the meaning of life is to pursue pleasure and avoid pain;
• the meaning of life is to find the truth within oneself;
• the meaning of life is to help others;
• the meaning of life is to lose oneself in the universe;
• the meaning of life is to live in a creative community;
• the meaning of life is to annoy those who try to censor us.

Successful participation in the course will involve developing a number of skills,

including:

• articulating one’s religious and ethical values;

• making more thoroughly informed decisions regarding career and family
life;
• writing better essays by being able to integrate personal and academic
interests;
• Understanding terms such as modernism and postmodernism, while
beingable to relate such terms to the history of philosophy.

The goal of this course is not to reach any final conclusion on our topic, let alone
indoctrinate, but rather to develop an understanding of many of the answers to our
question and an appreciation of the related issues and problems, all of which involve the
traditional areas of psychology, epistemology, metaphysics, and logic.

In addition to understanding the philosophy of life, specific sessions will be conducted

directed towards building a healthy lifestyle, a chief facilitator enabling deeper and
ongoing understanding of the Life & Life style philosophy.
