Our Engineering Development Program provides exciting opportunities for goal-oriented, proactive problem-
solvers, seeking engineering careers with leading edge technology.

Engineers in Training are typically hired at the 04 PBE level ($51,694 - $69,866). As you gain experience and
assume more responsibility, you will progress to the 05 PBE level ($57,895- $77,628). Once you have received
your licensure from PEO, you will progress to the 06 PBE level ($65,474 - $85,391).

We offer formal and informal learning and development opportunities, a rotational assignment approach that
works with your interests, and a mentoring program to assist you with your transition and growth.

What can I expect to do in this role?


In this position, you will:
• attain the experience necessary for your Professional Engineering accreditation
• gain experience in a variety of assignments related to the design, construction, traffic management,
operation and maintenance of the provincial highway system
• begin the program at a lower classification and progress based on your experience and skills to increasingly
challenging projects.

NOTE:
• This position requires regular business travel within the region and potentially across the province for EDP
professional events and to attend meetings and training.
•Applicants who are hired into one of the Head Office positions (either St. Catharines or Toronto [Downsview])
will be required to work for at least six months in one of five available regions in Ontario: West – London,
Eastern – Kingston, Central – Toronto, North Eastern – North Bay, North Western – Thunder Bay. Similarly, for
those who are hired into positions in one of the five above regions, you will be required to work in one of the
Head Office positions (either St. Catharines or Toronto [Downsview]) for at least six months.
• Work-related travel expenses, relocation costs and temporary living expenditures will be covered by the
Ministry for the duration of the assignment and in accordance with the Ontario Pubic Service's Travel, Meal and
Hospitality Expenses Directive.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory
• You must have a minimum four-year engineering degree in a discipline such as general civil, geotechnical,
traffic management, transportation, structural, materials.
• You must have graduated (undergraduate or post-graduate) between May 2016 and Spring 2018.

Analytical, Problem-Solving Skills and Judgement:


• You are able to interpret data from a variety of sources, apply design, and resolve problems that arise during
construction.
• You are able to contribute to the development of innovative design, construction staging and foresee adverse
impacts of designs.
• You are able to analyze relationships among several parts of a problem or situation and make causal links.
• You are able to draw on your own experience, knowledge, and expertise to provide the best response in a
critical or urgent situation.

Communication Skills:
• You have oral communication and active listening skills to explain complex policies, procedures and
techniques, to help ensure information is understood.
• You have written communication skills to accurately document information and prepare reports.
• You have written and oral communication skills to prepare and present presentation material related to the
engineering aspects of a project.

Relationship Management Skills:


• You are able to develop and maintain harmonious relationships, with diverse internal and external clients and
respond in an appropriate and professional manner.
• You are able to establish mutual trust and credibility with colleagues and team members.
• You are able to support team successes and work to resolve issues or concerns by promoting the expression

Note:

Successful candidates are typically hired on an underfill basis. The underfill levels are: 04 PBE ($51,694
- $69,866) and 05 PBE ($57,895- $77,628).
