WHICH IS MORE IMPORTANT, IMPROVING PEOPLE’S STANDARD OF LIVING OR PROTECTING THE ENVIROMENT? |
FCE PREPARATION
Esej v rámci přípravného kurzu na zkoušku FCE (First Certificate in English).
I think a healthy enviroment is a big part of a hight standard of living. I guess people would not like to live in a world
with toxic water or breath polluted air, despite having nice big houses, cars and lot of other products. We should find
balance between people’s standatd of living and the enviroment. In this essay I am going address particullary
housing and employment.
Rapid population growth increases demand for housing. More houses require more land, energy, building materials,
appliances. Homeowners also produce a lot of waste that needs to be stored. To decrease housing effect on
enviroment some steps can be taken. Besides managing cities better, using energy more efficiently recycling
resources, we could also try to stabilise population.
In order for people to afford a good standard of living, they will need to able to find work that pays well, or at least
enought. Good education can help.
We should protect our enviroment as there could be a point where the enviroment has gotten so bad that humans
are not able to survive.
All students should study science subjects in every school year
At secondary school, students have to study a whole range of subjects and many students complain that they have
to study subjects which are not relevant to their interests or ambitions. However, I think differently and science
subjects should be mandatory in every school year for every student.
First of all, science is completely related to people's everyday lives since they were born until the end and that is
what can make science lessons so interesting. They can learn how the world works, why there are here on the Earth
so they can improve their knowledge about humans. In fact, many discoveries which have changed the world are
made in the world of science.
Furthermore, as people can realise there is a shortage of workers in the science world. Most of the people, find it
difficult and choose a different career. Teachers through experiments and lessons should encourage students to
rethink about the job in this field as well. Although there are many clever experts, they have not discovered every
detail about the Earth yet, therefore, the future career in science might be so unstable but fascinating and excitable.
To sum up, even though some students find the science subjects boring they should learn anything about the subject
which refers to them completely. As a result, I highly support that these subjects should be obligatory at secondary
school.

Schools should spend more on computers and software tan on textbooks. Do you agree?

The strong technological progress over the last years had led to a growing concern on the national educational
system, about whether schools should invest much more in personal computers rather than in traditional textbooks.

First of all, it is known that computers offer a quite more variety/ more wide range of educational/learning resources
than books (do?). For instance, by using computer students are able to access/get to the Internet, where actually they
might search and find as much information as they want.

In addition, since the young people of the today’s world are already accustomed to information technologies, as they
have been using it for years at home, they will certainly enjoy more learning while they key in the interesting
explanations of their teacher or watching documentaries about current issues.

For the reasons given above, I really believe that every school/the educational community should spend a larger
amount of money on acquiring computers instead of textbooks, as they will facilitate learning to all our young students.
