Lesson Plan

Calvin Lim, Prabh Bains

Topic: Shifting attention internally, and externally. Length of Session: 15 minutes

Objective of the Lesson

At the end of the activity, students should be able to:

1. Identify the components that are apart of shifting attention internally, and externally.
2. If arousal level increases its going to affects attention.

Rationale

There are situations we most likely lose attention, such as after mistakes, stressed out, when
not sufficiently motivated, or when over motivated.

Motivation and stress play a major role in determining physiological arousal level and thereby
affect attentional focus. As arousal increases, shifting breakdown; attention begins to narrow
involuntarily and becomes more internally focused. (Nideffer, 1976)

The perception of the passage of time is dependent upon the amount of shifting that focus
between external and internal focus. (Nideffer, n.d.l)

Materials

1. Bean bags
2. Targets for bean bags

Instructional Procedure and Key Teaching Points:

1st drill- Throw the beanbag into the target with non dominant hand.

2nd drill- Throw the bean bag at different targets according to the number on the bean bag.

Debriefing and Evaluation Questions

Relate the beanbag activity to the sports/ activities that you participate in.

Was your focus shifted from the numbers on the beanbags?

How were the activities for our lesson? Is there anything we can do better in our lesson plan?
