some key details you add as to why you don’t like that food. Emphasize finger
spaces, punctuation, and capital letters. Do the MAC and set expectations for
work time. Students will then go back to their seats and silently work on their
writing. As students work, circulate the room and hold mini-conferences to guide
students in their writing. Students will continue to work on this piece the next
day.

What will you do if… …a student struggles with the content?

I will give them more examples of opinions and ask them about theirs. Ex- I think dogs are better pets
than cats. I like chocolate ice-cream better than vanilla. My favorite book is The Cat in the Hat. What is
your favorite book? Then I will explain that their favorite book, ice-cream, and pet are all opinions.

What will you do if… …a student masters the content quickly?

I will have them revise and edit their writing by checking for finger spaces, punctuation, correct use of
capital and lowercase letters, and re-read their writing back to someone.

Meeting your students’ needs as If applicable, how does this lesson connect to the interests and cultural backgrounds of your
people and as learners students?
Everyone has an opinion. My students have lots of opinions and I want them to be able to express
their opinions through writing.

If applicable, how does this lesson connect to/reflect the local community?

This lesson connects to the community because we live in a republic, where people vote based on their
opinions. Students should know how to form opinions and express them. They may use this skill to write
opinion pieces to school officials, to their parents, or to representatives in their community. This skill also
helps students prepare for the FSA that they will take in intermediate grades.

How will you differentiate instruction for students who need additional challenge during this
lesson (enrichment)?

I will give students who are advanced writers longer writing assignments if their writing meets
kindergarten standards (finger spaces, uppercase letters, lowercase letters, punctuation, makes sense).

How will you differentiate instruction for students who need additional language support?
I will mini-conference with students to differentiate and meet their individual needs. This may include
identifying sounds in words, verbalizing sentences, checking for finger spaces, checking for uppercase and
lowercase letters, and checking for meaning.

Accommodations (If needed) For R.K and Y.M, I may write the sentences they verbalize to me in highlighter for them to trace. These
