Department Advisory Committee (DAC)

Minutes of the Meeting

In continuation with the previous meeting dated 08th April 2014, DAC has been
assembled at the Department Meeting Room for addressing and reviewing the
Assessment method for attainment of Programme Educational Objectives and
Programme Outcome.

Agenda

 Working out previous results and Analysis of Programme outcomes.


 Assessment Methods need to be discussed for attainment level.

During the meeting the following members were present,

The following points were discussed during the meeting and the minutes were recorded
as below,

1. HoD, welcomed the members of the committee who had assembled for reviewing the
assessment method of programme educational objective and Programme Outcome
for the IT department.
2. He also insisted that Programme Assessment committee have been formed for
reviewing the attainment level of each Pos and PEOs .
3. The committee will consist of Head of the Department, Programme Coordinator,
Professor, and five faculty members as a representative.
4. The Programme Assessment Committee will work with programs to develop/update
their programme outcomes mapping/general education outcomes.
5. HoD suggested that the committee will create an assessment cycle to ensure that all
programme outcomes are being assessed in a reasonable time period; and work on
annual reviews.
6. Mr.Ahmed Mudassar Ali indicated that
Specific statements that articulate the knowledge, skills, and abilities students should
gain or improve through engagement in the
academic program or learning experience
7. HoD, Mr.N.Partheeban, said
The variety of methods used to evaluate each outcome (PLO) and the criteria or
indicators.
8. Dr.M.Subramaniam, Prof suggested that the following considerations need to be
identify for evaluating attainment Level. The considerable points are,
Is there a plan for collecting, tabulating, and analyzing assessment results?
Have feasibility and efficiency been considered in identifying assessment methods?
Are internal and/or external stakeholders (may include students, customers, faculty,
staff, administrators, advising boards,employers, etc.) involved in the assessment pro
cess?
Is this plan feasible with current resources and staff?
How will assessment results be used to improve student learning or the programs?

9. Mr.Ahmed Mudassar Ali, added the information that the Programme Assessment
Committee (PAC) is composed of representatives of a broad range of academic and
support units.
10. This committee establishes guidelines for comprehensive programme review for
academic and administrative units and provides guidance for student outcomes
assessment throughout the department.
11. Mr.P.Karthick enquired about the roles and responsibility of Programme Assessment
Committee and Mr.N.Partheeban, HoD had listed the roles of PAC.
Responsibilities of PAC members include:
 Ensuring that their department is represented at each PAC meeting
 Communicating information and action items from PAC to appropriate personnel,
committees or groups (e.g. assessment committee, faculty as a whole
 Providing guidance and expertise on assessment issues within the members
 Contributing, on behalf of the members, to PAC regarding programme review and
assessment practices, policies, and experiences
12. Mrs.A.M.Sermakani., insisted that each year PAC members reviews reports to
provide feedback to the areas for clarification or improvement.
13. Mr.P.Venkatesh Raja, Director concluded the roles of Programme Assessment
Committee in the following way:
 Coordinating activities related to accreditation
 PEO, PO and formulation of assessment methods, various survey mechanisms and
also coordinating with other committees
 Summarize the results of various assessments of PEOs, POs and Curriculum
14. Dr.M.Subramaniam suggested that there will be 3 ways of assessment terminology
and it was given below:
 Classroom Assessment occurs when an instructor measures student
learning outcomes in his or her own class in order to improve instructional
methods.
 Course Assessment occurs when learning outcomes of all sections of a
particular course are measured in order to make necessary changes for
course improvement.

 Programme Assessment occurs when either learning goals or outcomes in
all of the courses in a particular program are measured in order to make
necessary changes for program effectiveness.
15. Mrs.A.M.Sermakani., given the suggestion that Performing student learning
assessments is necessary in order to improve the effectiveness of learning within a
particular class, course, or program.
16. She also included that Assessment demonstrates that faculty members are engaged
in striving for student success.
17. She insisted that Assessments can support requests for equipment, materials,
professional development opportunities, faculty hires, and other budgetary
considerations
18. Finally HoD taken all the points and he included that assessment methods to be
framed in next meeting for evaluating the attainment of programme Educational
Objectives and Programme Outcomes.
19. Mr.N.Partheeban.,HoD, insisted that members had taken sincere effort by spending
their valuable time to give suggestions to frame Programme Outcomes.
20. HoD, thanked the members of the committee who had assembled for reviewing the
Programme Outcome for the IT department and forum disbursed.
