FILLCRETE CONCRETE

Submicron amorphous silicon or "silica fume (microsilica)"

Technical Data DESCRIPTION

FILLCRETE is a powder product of primarily spherical-shaped granules made from submicron amorphous sili-
Physical state: con, free of crystalline compounds and commonly known as "silica fume (microsilica)."
powder
FILLCRETE has a high specific surface area (15-20 m2/g), very high Pozzolana reactivity and excellent filling
Colour: capacity. FILLCRETE granules are of very small dimensions (0.05-0.5m). If you add a percentage proportion of
grey FILLCRETE based on cement weight, the mix will result in cement-based mixes of superior quality.

Proportion: APPLICATIONS
5-15% based on cement FILLCRETE is particularly recommended for:
weight
• reinforced or pre-stressed concrete structures exposed to aggressive chemical agents in the natural envi-
Particle size distribution: ronment (resistance to sulphates, calcium chloride, sodium chloride, carbon dioxide);
• bleed-free (not exuding water) concrete with very high tensile strength;
from 0.05 mm to 0.5 mm • concrete and mortar with low porosity and improved frost resistance;
• mortars and cement-based mixes with superior thixotropic properties;
Storage: • cement-based mixes for underwater concrete castings;
12 months • gunite, shotcrete.
Composition:
SiO2 > 95 % ADVANTAGES
CaO < 0.5 % As a result of its properties, FILLCRETE has very high Pozzolana reactivity. Due to the spherical shape and
MgO < 1.0 % small size of its particles, FILLCRETE has a remarkable filling capacity. The particles fill existing gaps between
Fe2O3 < 1.0 % cement granules, thereby decreasing the microporosity of cement paste.
Al 2O3 < 0.5 %
These features make FILLCRETE a first-rate raw material, enabling you to produce concrete with increased
Other ingredients = trace
elements tensile strength, reduced permeability and better durability, endowing the concrete with remarkable advanta-
ges, both during the fresh and hardening stages.
Available in: Fresh concrete stage
Given the same amount of mix water, setting times do not vary substantially if you add FILLCRETE without de-
creasing the amount of cement. With a decreased percentage of cement (increases the W/C ratio), however,
you will experience a slight delay in setting time.
If added in a percentage exceeding 5% of cement weight, the higher specific surface area of FILLCRETE will re-
quire a larger amount of mix water so it will then be necessary to combine it with FLUIBETON superfluidifiers.
Hardening stage
• Increased tensile strength when you add it to Portland cement;
• decreased permeability due to lower total porosity;
• more durability and resistance to frost;
• optimal resistance to naturally-occurring aggressive chemical agents such as sulphates, chlorides, carbon
dioxide and seawater.
COMBINING FILLCRETE WITH FLUIBETON SUPERFLUIDIFIERS
FILLCRETE If add FILLCRETE, this needs a larger amount of water and you have to use FLUIBETON superfluidifiers in order
avoid to affect the cement mix properties.
Table 1 shows the proportion and type of additive to use when you add FILLCRETE. You may use up to 11 kg
of FILLCRETE per 100 kg of cement with FLUIBETON superfluidifiers. If you need larger FILLCRETE proportions,
you should use FLUIBETON 2000 superfluidifier.

PROPORTION
D.V. 1-11

The minimum proportion of cement in concrete is 300 kg/m3. FILLCRETE may be used in proportions varying
20-kg bags
from 5% to 15%, based on cement weight (5 kg to 15 kg per 100 kg of cement).

USAGE
You should put 5-15% FILLCRETE (based on cement weight) into the concrete mixer along with the aggregates,
cement and mix water.
After adding the last ingredient, extend the mix time by at least 3 minutes in a concrete mixer or 5 minutes
in a concrete mixer lorry and adjust for any additional water requirements until you achieve the workability
desired.
For this reason, our warranty only covers the quality and life of the products according to their specifications. This issue invalidates and replaces the previous ones.

CONCRETE CURING
All concrete must be cured properly. Casts must be protected from rapid evaporation with appropriate pro-
tective devices (polyethylene sheets), especially in dry and windy climates. To achieve the best results, it is

particularly recommended to apply PROBETON CURING N curing film right after removing formworks. It can
be also applied immediately after the horizontal surface concrete cures for 12-48 hours under polyethylene
protective sheets that should be removed for reuse.

PACKAGING & STORAGE

FILLCRETE is available in bulk or in 20 kg bags. If this product is properly stored in its original packaging in a

in ordinary cement silos and proportioned with equipment at concrete batching plants.
