Filipino Traits & Values

Since, Filipino values have become one of the most important parts of the Philippine
history. Filipinos up today and yesterday were described through their traditional values.
Actually, it was one of the major factors of invasion and domination of the Philippines by the
neighboring nations. The coming of invaders in the country marked the beginning of the
entrance of foreign influences that brought changes and alternations in the moods of the long-
cherished Filipino values.
For the fact, Young Filipinos of today look far different from their forefathers in the
manner they speak, act, and dress, in the mode of living and other aspects. But then, cultural
traces inherited from ancestors are carried from generation to generation in varying degrees.
Presently, traces of this culture can be obtained through typical ways shown in relation to their
dealings with each other.
Because of our vulnerability to outside influences, our actions today in terms of cultural
traits are very much affected by our connections with the foreigners who came to our shores.
We easily picked up many of their cultural traits. It is for us now to decide whether we should
be better known as Filipinos in the manner we act. We can’t deny that it is a fact that we began
to fail identify in us Filipinos qualities that we should uphold as true Filipinos.

17 Sustainable Development
Nowadays, the current economic, environmental and social problems the world faces
are the result of inefficient human activities. Many positions exist around these problems and
how they need to be handled. Environmentalists defend the idea of preserving natural
resources and decreasing the level of contamination. Economists support the idea that
development and economic growth are crucial for poor countries to achieve the basic
standards of life. In order to shorten these differences, “sustainable development” emerged as
a development that tries to meet our needs with the available resources without compromising
the needs of future generations.
Referring to the connection of sustainability and well-being, well-being can be defined
as the objective conditions that help people to be happy, while sustainability is the capacity of
the planet to endure, to preserve its natural resources and continue enjoying the world people
know until now. In other words, sustainability is the tool for achieving well-being, if there are
enough resources in the world, people will satisfy their needs and government will be able to
provide the necessary goods and services so people will have a positive perception of their life.
Despite the connection of these two terms, they can be differentiated in three ways. Firstly,
sustainability is a mechanism to preserve resources, while well-being is a human perception of
what is considered a good way of living. Secondly, when talking about time frame, well-being is
something perceived at the present time, and sustainability projects itself ahead in time, as
something that has to be done in order to get results in the future. Thirdly, well-being focuses
more its attention on current social and economic issues (money to cover needs, living in a nice
neighborhood, having a good job, products and services availability). Whereas, sustainability’s
focal point is an environmental issue: the preservation of resources, so industries and people
can use them in order to provide a good perception of living.
In conclusion, sustainable development is the current trend in every country, and its
main objective is to satisfy present and future needs, without disturbing the environment. It is
possible to conclude that sustainable development is relevant and it use in today’s world is
essential. People’s activities are being ruled by its principles, and policy making decisions are
mainly designed to accomplish it; every positive or negative action that people take now, will
have big impact on the future.

Economic Growth
It can clearly be seen that economic differences exist among nations. While some
countries are successful in achieving growth and are said to be rich, some remain poor. While
some economies generate enormous wealth, some suffer poverty. The role of culture on
economic performance is considerable in enlightening the differences among different societies
and it may be one of the important key determinants of economic performance. It is advocated
that if there is a healthy and strong cultural community in a nation; that nation exhibits more
ability in growing and competing internationally.
Cultural infrastructure has very significant and determining effects on increasing of a
country’s welfare level, in other words, on its long-run economic growth. When looked to the
developing countries, it can be seen that their cultural infrastructure is more deficient
compared with developed ones. Thus, national, financial and human capital resources aren’t
being used efficiently and they aren’t being used in a way that provides maximum utility.
Problem of less-developed countries is not only ‘growth’, also ‘development’. Development is
growth plus ‘change’. Change in here can be either economic or social and cultural. Less-
developed countries are said to have social structure differences and problem arises from this
socio-cultural issue.
Culture is said to be the fruit of human civilization. It is a way of life and a system of
conduct; it is immaterial, but it also contains material objects that are related to human activity.
It is not isolated from history and societal progress. It is cumulative and continuous: it doesn’t
belong to a unique generation, its influence is carried over through generations and it is
transmitted from one generation to another.

Why Some Country Are Rich & Poor
Poverty is still the biggest problem the world faces from day to day. Every country
suffers from it to some degree, however certain places are greater effected than others. This is
because the level of economic growth differs from country to country. The greater amount of
growth the less room there is for poverty. This is simple reason why some countries are richer
than others. If countries fail to move forward than it can present many problems. Mainly the
needless suffering of many, and generally a lower level of living for all those caught in the trap.
It is true that growth does create its own problems such as pollution and congestion, but these
are acceptable compromises to reduce the level of poverty.
The governments around the world have many policies to try and improve the workings
of their economies. Governments will differ in the emphasis they give to particular objectives
and the ways in which they try to achieve these. The circumstances around these change from
time to time, focusing on certain objectives that need the most influence. Economic growth is
an ongoing priority. Governments just have to make sure they manage what resources they
have properly, in order to achieve this objective. Every year there is a “league table “published
showing the level of economic growth achieved by each country. The comparison is made using
each country’s Gross Domestic Product, or GDP. An important factor to look at is the difference
between actual and potential economic growth. Actual economic growth increases in real GDP.
This increase can occur as result of using previously unemployed resources, or reallocating
resources into more productive areas or improving existing resources. Whereas potential
economic growth is the productive capacity of the economy. For example, it can be shown by
the predicted ability of the country to produce goods and services. This changes when there is
an increase in the quantity or quality of the resources.
All countries have different ways of achieving this with the resources they have
available to them. For this reason it party answers the question of why some countries are
richer than others. It is widely thought that the productive capacity of an economy will increase
each year largely due to improvements in education and technology. This will obviously differ
from country to country.
