World's Water day

Water is a transparent, tasteless, odorless, and nearly colorless chemical substance that is the main
constituent of Earth's streams, lakes, and oceans, and the fluids of most living organisms.

Let's assume the % of water on earth 100,And the % of water in Oceans 97.4%,only 2.6% of wateris fresh
water,1% is avalable for drinkng.

But,It already affects every continent and around 2.8 billion people around the world at least one month
out of every year that is Scarcity of Water.More than 1.2 billion people lack access to clean drinking
water.Water scarcity involves water stress, water shortage or deficits, and water crisis.

Why World's water day celebrated on

22nd march?

An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992

United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro. The United
Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day.
Can you imagine a day without water?
It's not possible .Right?

Growing up, we seem to take water for granted when water

flows at the flip of a switch. Although most of us might have experienced the inconveniences brought by
occasional interruptions to water supply (e.g. water pipes maintenance), we are not aware of the
possibility of future water shortages.

Globally, about million people die each year from water.Childhood diarrhea is still the
second-leading cause of childhood mortality. Consequently, very rural and very poor communities are
still underserved in Sub-Saharan Africa, especially.

Water Problems:
Water Floods:
A flood is an overflow of water that submerges land that is usually dry. The primary effects of
flooding include loss of life, damage to buildings and other structures, including bridges, sewerage
systems, roadways, and canals.Floods also frequently damage power transmission and sometimes
power generation, which then has knock-on effects caused by the loss of power.

Prevention from floods:

I. Introduce water storage areas

II. Improve soil conditions

III. Construct buildings above flood levels

Droughts:
Drought is a condition of no rains when the standing crops, mostly rain-fed, gets dried up and is
destroyed.

i. Scarcity of rain-fall.

ii. Lack of irrigation facilities to supplement the need for water during the period of inadequate
monsoon

iii. Lack of properly developed Rain-water harvesting methods

iv. Lack of proper planning to deal with the situation.

v. Widespread deforestation and cutting of trees has reduced the ability of soil to hold water. Lack
of underground water is a major cause for droughts.

To tackle the problem of drought in our country, the following solutions are suggested.

i. All our efforts should be made to preserve rain waters in various ways and tap ground water
sources to meet unexpected drought situations.

ii. Improved rain-water harvesting methods should be deployed.

iii. The people should be educated regarding the importance of water, so that they do-not misuse
the stored water

iv. New improved methods of irrigation should be introduced.

v. Deforestation should be discouraged to increase the ability of the soil to hold water.

Water Pollution:
Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies (e.g. lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers and
groundwater), often as a result of human activities. in many cases it is wastewater that is dicharged to
water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds (pollutants).

How can we stop water pollution?

There is no easy way to solve water pollution; if there were, it wouldn't be so much of a problem.
Broadly speaking, there are three different things that can help to tackle the problem—education, laws,
and economics—and they work together as a team.

Life is ultimately about choices. We can live with sewage-strewn

beaches, dead rivers, and fish that are too poisonous to eat. Or we can
work together to keep the environment clean so the plants, animals,
and people who depend on it remain healthy. We can take individual
action to help reduce water pollution, for example, by using
environmentally friendly detergents, not pouring oil down drains,
reducing pesticides, and so on. We can take community action too, by
helping out on beach cleans or litter picks to keep our rivers and seas
that little bit cleaner. And we can take action as countries and
continents to pass laws that will make pollution harder and the world
less polluted. Working together, we can make pollution less of a
problem—and the world a better place.
The World Water Day implores us to
respect our water resources. Act Now
and Do Your Part.

Let the change begin..
