Why did you choose these strategies/methods?
 Constructions- Students will construct their own foldable model, and tape models
to help represent the steps of multiplying whole numbers by fractions.
 Cooperative Learning- small group with students of different levels of ability, use
a variety of learning activities to improve their understanding of a subject.
 Discussion/Questioning- as apart of progress monitoring students will be
prompted with questions as to monitor their understanding of the task.
 Problem Solving- Students will be solving math problems from the work sheet
using a scaffolding method of instructions.
 Independent Learning- Students will have time to work independently and
practice their techniques.
 Practice/Drills- Students will get the opportunity to practice operations.
 Graphic Organizers- Students will create foldable to help them learn the steps of
multiplying fractions.
 Viewing/Listening/Answering- Students will be have several opportunities to
answer, listen, and see visualize how the procedure is taking place.
How will you group students for instruction?

Students are already placed in groups based off their grade and ability with the subject.
This group consists of four 4th grade students.

List below your activities/steps including how you activate background knowledge, gain
student attention (set induction), demonstrate processes and desired outcomes (modeling,
guided practice, independent practice), and bring closure to the lesson. Also, articulate
how you will evaluate your lesson/determine if student learning occurred.

1. I will explain what our objectives are and the activities we will be
doing for the lesson. 45-60
2. I will show the foldable and explain how they will fill it out. minutes of
instruction.
Activate background knowledge

1. Student’s who were here last week will be handed back their
worksheets. Students who were not here will be handed a new
worksheet.
2. I will ask students who were here what strategy we used last week.
3. I will then explain that this concept was taught in their general
education classroom. I will explain that problems like these will be
on the AZ merit and we are going to practice how to complete these
problems with a strategy.

Demonstrate processes and desired outcomes (modeling, guided practice,

independent practice)

1. Together we will fill out the foldable that lays out all the steps of
multiplying whole numbers by fractions.
A. Step 1: Look at denominator and figure out how many pieces are in
one group.
B. Step 2: Make as many groups to fill up your tape. Tapes are to be
drawn on graph paper.
C. Step 3: Look at the numerator and find out how many pieces of the
group you need to fill in. After identifying this number color in the
number in alternate colors.
D. Count how many wholes you’ve filled in (write this number)
followed by the part of the last whole (write this fraction)
E. Check your work by counting groups

2. Together we will do three problems on the white board student’s work

will be monitored by me and we will make sure they are setting up their
tapes correctly.

3. Students will practice additional problems on their own.

Bring closure to the lesson

Students will be asked if the lesson helped them understand how to
multiply fractions by whole numbers.

Students will be allowed to take foldable to class and use it while practicing
procedures in their general education classroom.
Evaluate your lesson/determine if student learning occurred

1. Through formative assessment. I will be able to determine if students

understood the procedure.
2. Determining how well students multiply factions can be identified
through their responses on the worksheet.

5. Reflection after Lesson Implementation
1. To what extent did students learn what you intended? How do you know?

2. Did you do anything differently than what you planned? If so, why?

3. If you were going to teach this lesson again to the same students, what would you do
the same? Differently?

4. How much time did you actually use? Were transitions smooth?

5. Identify a group or individual who did well with the lesson. How do you account for
this? What might you do in the future to ensure their continued success?

6. Identify a group or individual who had difficulty with this lesson. How do you account
for this? What interventions could you use so that they achieve the learning goals?

7. Are there any other comments, reactions, or questions about the lesson? Was there
anything you felt especially good, frustrated, or confused about?
