2018 President

Dear NOVA SHRM Members,

As the 2018 Chapter President, I am thrilled to step into this new exciting role.
For all these years NOVA SHRM has become not only a tremendous source of
professional information and support for me, it has become my professional
family. I am very excited about this opportunity and I am deeply grateful to
all the Board Members for choosing to share this challenging path with me. I
would not be here if not for the great efforts and thousands of hours
contributed by all the terrific volunteers that came before me. Thank you!

Coming all the way from the Eastern Europe it has been a long way for me to
get where I am in life and I am happy to serve the community and to inspire
those who are looking for any advice or just a friendly word. We are what we
do. NOVA SHRM is here to help you and support you.

Seyfarth Synopsis: The Department of Labor has scrapped its 2010 Fact
Sheet on internship status and adopted the more flexible and employer-
friendly test devised by Second Circuit.

In a decision that surprised no one who has followed the litigation of wage
hour claims by interns, the US Department of Labor has abandoned its ill-fated
six-part test for intern status in for-profit companies and replaced it with a
more nuanced set of factors first articulated by the Second Circuit in 2015. The
move officially eliminates agency guidance that several appellate courts had
explicitly rejected as inconsistent with the FLSA.

5 Tips for New HR Professionals

As the business world has become ever-more connected and fast-paced,


identifying efficiencies is vital to success for any company, across multiple
industries. With increasing interconnectedness, the most important capital for
the majority of companies in the Information Age is human capital.

The new generation of human resources professionals will need to evaluate


their peers and colleagues to identify the most efficient way to deploy their
knowledge and abilities in service of their organization’s goals.

On top of that, demand for human resources professionals is expected to grow


about 22% by 2018, according to the Bureau for Labor Statistics.

The following five tips are for new professionals entering this growing field
who want to build their foundations in the human resources profession. They
also serve as reminders for seasoned professionals at any point in your career.

Never, Ever Take A Job Unless It Passes This

I've been job-hunting since last September, because I'm ready to leave my
current job.

Now I have two job offers and two other opportunities I'm pursuing.

Now that I have some job offers, I feel like I should be choosy. I already have a
job, so I don't want to change jobs unless it's going to be a significantly better
situation.

Job Offer A
Title: Senior HR Assistant
Salary: $53,000
Culture Grade: I don't know, seems okay (A-C?)
