Introduction

The objective of the work reported here was to develop a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Model
for the Sea sand and River sand industries. Sea sand and River sand are a variety of mineral
resources. Sand is mainly used for construction purposes. Because sand is a good bond with
cement. Sand mining in Sri Lanka causes great environmental damage. The aim of the research
is to identify the environmental impacts of all processes when mining, storage, transporting and
construction Sea sand and River sand and identifying the environmental impacts, identifying
quantification and their main contributors, and focusing on further process design.. The results of
this LCA are neither intended nor shall be used for decision making or comparative assertions.

Keyword: Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Sea Sand, River Sand

Objective:

The objective of the analysis is to carry out general research on environmental impacts on the
sea sand and river sand using the production area and the construction area.

Methodology

Excavation, storage, transportation and production for research purposes are planned. In this
study, the overall process here is based on the study of environmental impacts. The design and
material flow diagrams are generated for the equipment and the machine database. Process
inputs and outputs are tested for compliance with current industry data. Life cycle evaluation is
done using LCA software. The functional unit of the analysis is a ton of glass grade Sea sand and
River samd. All calculations are made based on an annual input of 150 000 t of raw Sea sand. &
River sand. This assumption is taken from the actual mining project in Mining Department of Sri
Lanka.

what the analysed alternatives have in common is the mining and basic processing operation.
The main assumptions for the first seven alternatives were as follows: surface mining using
bulldozers; transportation from a mining site to the processing plant by dumpers; then washing
and sizing in the processing plant which included sieve washing, attrition scrubbing, hydro-
cyclone classifying and dewatering. The effect we will have on the environment can be compiled
in one direction.

Scope
The scope of the study is outlined in the following sections covering the product systems and
system boundaries, the functional unit, the allocation procedures, the types of impacts considered
in the LCA methodology, some data requirements and assumptions, as well as the limitations of
the study.
