2018 ENLISTMENT INTO THE GHANA ARMED FORCES


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY

1. Eligible applicants should:


a. Be Ghanaian citizen by birth.
b. Be of good character.
c. Not be less than 20 years and not more than 25 years by 14 June 2018, for Regular
Commission and not more than 30 years by Thursday 17 May 2018, for Short Service
Commission.
d. Be medically fit by Ghana Armed Forces standard.
e. Not be bonded.
f. Not be married (for Regular Officer Candidates only).
g. Be of minimum height of 1.68m (5’6”) for males and 1.60m (5’ 4”) for females.
For Military Police only; the minimum height for male applicants should be 1.75m (5`9``) and
1.70m (5’ 7”) for females.
h. Must have the following:

(1) BECE. Six (6) Passes at BECE including English and Mathematics.

(2) WASSCE. Six (6) Credits (not less than C6) including Core English and Core
Mathematics.
Or
(3) SSSCE. Six (6) Credits (not less than D) including Core English and Core
Mathematics.
Or
(4) GCE ‘O’ & ‘A’ Levels. Five (5) Credits (not less than 6) including English and
Mathematics at GCE ‘O’ Level and not less than D in three subjects and General Paper at
GCE ‘A’ Level.

REGULAR OFFICER CANDIDATES


2. ARMY.

a. Infantry/Armour/Artillery. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a


First Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University.

b. Signal Corps. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a First Degree
not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in any of the following:

(1) Telecommunication Engineering.
(2) Computer Engineering.
(3) Physics.
(4) Preference will be given to applicants with additional certificates in tele, mobile,
satellite and wireless communication.

c. Engineer Corps. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a First Degree not
below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in any of the following:
(1) Civil Engineering (Structural or Water/Sanitation Engineer).
(2) Electrical Engineering.
(3) Mechanical Engineer (Building Services Option) with at least one (1) year
working experience.
(4) Building Technology.

d. Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (EME Corps). In addition to the general


eligibility, applicants must have a First Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized
University/Institution in any of the following:
(1) Physics.
(2) Mechanical Engineering.
(3) Chemical Engineering.
(4) Electrical Engineering.
(5) Electronics Engineering.
(6) Materiel Engineering.
(7) Bio-Medical Engineering Technology.
(8) Agricultural Engineering.

e. Military Police. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a First Degree
not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in any of the following:
(1) Social Sciences.
(2) Pure Sciences.
(3) Arts.
(4) Administration.
f. Ordnance Service. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a First
Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in any of the
following:
(1) Chemical Engineering.
(2) Chemistry.

(3) Physics.
g. Supply and Transport Corps. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must
have a First Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in any
of the following:
(1) Procurement and Supply Chain Management.
(2) Purchasing and Supply.
(3) Administration.
h. Forces Pay Corps. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a First
Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in any of the
following:
(1) Accounting.
(2) ACCA Part II or Higher.
(3) ICA Part II or Higher.
(4) CIMA Part II or Higher.
(5) ICA (GH) Part II or Higher.
i. Information Technology. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a
First Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in any of the
following:
(1) Computer Science.
(2) Computer Engineering.
(3) Information Technology.
(4) Computer Security.
(5) Network Engineering.
(6) Preference would be given to applicants with in-depth knowledge in Website
Designing (CMS’s, PHP, HTML, CSS), SQL and My SQL, CCNA, ORACLE, LINUX,
VISUAL BASIC, Network Administration, Ethical Hacking or Computer Forensics.
j. Education Corps. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a First
Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in any of the
following:
(1) Humanities (Arts & Social Sciences).
(2) Pure Science.
(3) Education.
(4) English/French.
k. Public Relations. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have First
Degree (BA, BFA, BSc etc) not below Second Class Lower in any of the following from a
recognized University/Institution, plus one (1) year working experience:
(1) Film/Sound Production.

(2) Film Directing.
(3) Television Production.
(4) Broadcast Journalism.

l. Physical Training (PT) and Sports. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants
must have a First Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution
in any of the following:
(1) Physical Education.
(2) Health/Physical Education and Recreation.

m. Band. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a First Degree not
below Second Class Lower in Music from a recognized University/Institution. Knowledge in the
following is an advantage:
(1) Staff – Reading.
(2) Conducting.
(3) Orchestrating.
(4) Brass and Wind Instruments.

3. NAVY.
a. Technical Branch. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a First
Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in any of the
following:

(1) Marine Engineering.


(2) Mechanical Engineering.
(3) Electrical Engineering.
(4) Marine Electrical/Electronic Engineering.

b. Supply and Secretariat Branch. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must
have a First Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University or equivalent
Professional Institution in any of the following:

(1) Administration (Human Resource/Accounting/Marketing/Public Administration/


Banking & Finance).

(2) Commerce.

(3) Port and Shipping Administration.


(4) Management Studies.
(5) Procurement and Supply Chain Management.

(6) Economics.
(7) Preference will be given to applicants with additional certificates in the
following:
(a) Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administration (ICSA) – Final Part.
(b) Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) – Level 5.
(c) Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) – Final Part.

4. AIR FORCE.

a. Air Branch.
(1) Air Crew. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a First
Degree not below Second Class Lower in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Geography,
Statistics, Computer Science, Aeronautical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering,
Private/Commercial/Air Transport Pilot License or any other Pilot cert from a recognized
University/Institution.

(2) ATC Operations. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a
First Degree not below Second Class Lower in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry,
Geography, Statistics, Computer Science and Environmental Science from a recognised
University/Institution.
b. Supply Branch. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a First Degree
not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in any of the following:
(1) Administration (Finance, Accounting and Marketing).
(2) Economics.
(3) Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) – Final Part.
(4) Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport – Final Part.
(5) Supply Chain Management.
(6) Commerce.
c. Administration Branch. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a
First Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University or equivalent
professional institution in any of the following:
(1) Administration. (Human Resource/Accounting/Public Administration/Banking &
Finance).
(2) Arts or Social Science.
(3) Management Studies.
(4) Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administration (ICSA) – Final Part.

d. Engineering Branch.

(1) Mechanical. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a First
Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University or equivalent
Professional Institution in any of the following:
(a) Aerospace Engineering.
(b) Mechanical Engineering.
(c) Aeronautical Engineering.
(d) Agricultural Engineering.

(2) Avionics. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a First
Degree not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University or equivalent
professional institution in any of the following:
(a) Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
(b) Computer Engineering.
(c) Telecommunication Engineering.
SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION (ARMY/NAVY/AIR FORCE)
4. ENGINEER CORPS.

a. Architecture. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a First Degree
not below Second Class Lower from a recognized University/Institution in Architecture, be a
registered member of Ghana Institute of Architects and must not be more than thirty-five (35)
years of age by 17 May 2018.

5. MEDICAL.

In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must have a Degree in any of the following from a
recognized University or equivalent Professional Institution in any of the following:
a. Clinical Specialist. In addition to the general eligibility, applicant must have MB
ChB/BDS or its equivalent from an accredited institution plus a relevant post-graduate
qualification to the level of Membership/Fellowship (GCPS/WACS/WACP) or its equivalent from
an accredited College. Must have permanent registration with the Ghana Medical and Dental
Council and not more than 40 years of age.
b. Medical Officer & Dental Surgeon. In addition to the general eligibility, applicant
must have MB ChB/BDS or its equivalent from an accredited institution. Must have permanent
registration with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council. At least one (1) year working experience
after housemanship in a recognized health facility and not more than 35 years of age.
c. General Nurse. In addition to the general eligibility, applicant must have BSc/BA
degree in Nursing from an accredited institution and must have completed the mandatory clinical
rotation or national service. At least two (2) years working experience is required. Must be
registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Ghana and not more than 33 years of age.

d. Midwifery Officer. In addition to the general eligibility, applicant must have BSc degree
in Midwifery from an accredited institution. Must have completed the mandatory clinical rotation.
At least two (2) years working experience is required and not more than 33 years of age. Must be
registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Ghana.
e. Physician Assistant (Medical). Applicant must have BSc degree in Physician
Assistantship or its equivalent from an accredited institution with at least two (2) years working
experience after housemanship in an accredited health facility. Must have permanent registration
with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council and not more than 33 years of age.

f. Audiologist. Applicant must have an MSc Degree in Audiology or its equivalent. At least
one (1) year working experience as an audiologist. Must be registered with the Allied Health
Professions Council and not more than 33 years of age.

g. Specialized Nurses (Excluding Eye Nurses). In addition to the general eligibility,


applicants must be a Registered General Nurse and have Certificate in any of the following
specialties: Critical Care, ENT, Peri-operative, Emergency Care, Plastic & Burns and Pediatrics
Nursing. At least two (2) years working experience in a recognized health facility is required. Must
have registered with the Nurses and Midwifery Council of Ghana and not more than 33 years of
age. A degree in any of the related fields is an advantage.
h. Nursing Tutor. In addition to the general eligibility, applicant must have MPhil in
Nursing/Midwifery or MSc/MA in Nursing/Midwifery with postgraduate certificate in Education.
Must be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Ghana. At least one (1) year teaching
experience in an accredited Nursing/Midwifery institution is required and not more than 35 years
of age.

6. Chaplains (ARMY/NAVY/AIR FORCE). In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must


be or have any of the following:
a. Licentiate in Theology from a recognized Theological Seminary or College and First
Degree (BA) in Theology or Religion.

b. An ordained Minister of the Roman Catholic, Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian,


Evangelical Presbyterian, SDA and the Church of Pentecost and be recommended for
commissioning into the Ghana Armed Forces by the Head of the Church.

c. A minimum of four (4) years pastoral working and probation/internship experience


including two (2) years post ordination service in the pastoral field.

d. Ability to speak English fluently and at least one of the main Ghanaian languages.

e. Not more than 35 years of age by Thursday 17 May 2018.

7. Imam. In addition to the general eligibility, applicants must be or have any of the following:

a. Degree in Islamic Theology (Religion) from a recognized Islamic Institution.

b. An Alim Phedeen (Islamic Theologian).

c. Fluent in both spoken Arabic and English Languages.

d. Ability to read and write good Arabic and English Languages.

e. Practised as Imam for four (4) years and be recognized by a recognised Islamic Religious
Institution/Body in Ghana.

f. Recommended for commissioning into the Ghana Armed Forces by the Head of a
recognized Islamic body in Ghana.

g. Not more than 35 years of age by Thursday 17 May 2018.

HOW TO APPLY

8. Acquire a scratch card at FIFTY GHANA CEDIS (GH₵50.00) from the designated Post
Offices below:
a. Greater Accra. Burma Camp, Accra North, GPO, Cantonments, Dansoman, Legon,
Madina, TUC, Kaneshie, Ministries, Mamprobi, New Achimota, Tema Community 1,Tema
Community 11.

b. Central Region. Cape Coast, Agona Swedru, Saltpond, Dunkwa-On-Offin, Winneba,


Elmina, Apam.

c. Northern Region. Tamale, Education Ridge, Yendi, Walewale, Damongo.

d. Upper West Region. Wa, Lawra, Tumu.

e. Upper East Region. Bawku, Navrongo, Bolgatanga.


f. Ashanti Region. Kumasi Main, KNUST, Ashanti-Mampong, Bekwai-Ashanti,
Konongo, Obuasi, Offinso, Ejura, Juaso, Akrokerri, Ejisu, Agogo.

g. Brong - Ahafo Region. Sunyani, Berekum, Techiman, Bechem, Atebubu , Kintampo,


Dormaa Ahenkro, Duayaw-Nkwanta.

h. Eastern Region. Koforidua, Nkawkaw, Mpraeso, Suhum, Akim Oda, Aburi,


Asamankese, Akropong-Akuapem, Somanya, Akosombo, Nsawam.

i. Western Region. Takoradi, Sekondi, Tarkwa, Enchi, Sefwi-Wiawso, Axim.

j. Volta Region. Ho, Anloga, Keta, Hohoe, Kpando, Denu, Peki, Sogakope, Jasikan,
Kadjebi.
9. Scratch gently to reveal the “PIN” code. The scratch card can be used for three times until a record
is successfully submitted.

10. Log on to the recruitment portal @ http://www.gafrecruitment.com with any of the following
browsers:
a. Mozilla Firefox.
b. Google Chrome.

11. Read through the entry requirements thoroughly.

12. Click on the Apply Now Tab to open the applicant authentication page.

13. Enter your card Serial Number, PIN code and select your preferred Arm of Service, type of
commission and click “Submit”.

14. Enter your personal details and take note of the following from pages 1 to 3:

a. Page 1: Select your desired vacancy and provide all other required data.
b. Page 2: Upload a scanned copy of your passport-sized photograph of dimension (200 x
180 pixels), enter a valid e-mail
address, personal mobile phone number in the format (233244123456) and enter any other
required data.
c. Page 3; Enter the results of only the three required core subjects on your WASSCE/SSCE
results slip, that is; CORE MATHEMATICS AND CORE ENGLISH. Enter your WASSCE or
SSSCE Index number, WASSCE or SSSCE results slip Serial Number and select a Tertiary
Institution from the list of schools. Enter your graduating GPA/CWA and provide all other
required data. Upload only scanned copies of the following; WASSCE or SSSCE Results Slip
and First Degree/Certificate (Degree). NB: Each scanned document (Passport picture,
WASSCE or SSSCE Results Slip, First Degree/Certificate) to be uploaded, should not exceed 1
(One) Megabyte and should be in JPEG picture format only.

15. Click on the Preview Button to see a summary page of all data provided. Read through this page
carefully and click on the back button, if there are any modifications to be made.

16. Click on the submit button and expect an instant e-mail and text message, which includes your
unique system generated Identification Number.

17. Print and keep a copy of the generated report as you will be required to present it, if you are
shortlisted. However, if you lose your copy of the final report, go back to the recruitment portal, click on
the Check Details Tab, enter your unique identification number sent to you by SMS/E-mail and order a
re-print.

18. Closing Date. Closing date for submission of all online applications is Saturday 31 March
2018.
