Information about ENGR 343

Here is how you can access the various materials for this class, download the software, and order
the textbook. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me by e-mail.

1. You should have already received instructions on how to access the website for this class.
To see the assignments and the lecture videos for Module 1, click on the Course
Modules link, and then click on Weeks 1-3. The process is exactly the same for Modules
2, 3 and 4. Note that the lectures in Module 3 have not been recorded, since they will be
delivered in person when I come to Montevideo.

2. For the projects in this class, we will use a software package called SciLab (which is
quite similar to Matlab, but is free). You can download it from the following website:
http://www.scilab.org/. You can work on these projects in groups of two, and submit a
single report. The due dates for each project are indicated in the syllabus.

You can find all the projects and demos (in pdf form) on the course website, as well as on
my personal website:
http://www.engr.scu.edu/~azecevic/
If you choose the latter option, just follow the Courses and Class Materials link, and look
under ENGR 343.

3. In the first week of class, you will be expected to introduce yourself briefly, and say a
few words about what your main interests are (this could be anything that is important to
you). I would also like you to describe your current position on the relationship between
science and religion. You can post this information by following the Discussions link on
the course website.

4. The required textbook for my course, Truth, Beauty, and the Limits of Knowledge: A
Path from Science to Religion, is published and distributed by Cognella, Inc. The book
is available for purchase in digital format through their student e-commerce store
(https://students.universityreaders.com/store/), for $27.95.

To purchase the textbook, please follow the instructions below:

Step 1: Log on to https://students.universityreaders.com/store/

Step 2: Create a new account. When you do so, under State/Location, select “Outside the
U.S.”, and under Institution, select “Universidad Catolica del Uruguay (Uruguay)”.
Step 3: Easy-to-follow instructions will guide you through the rest of the ordering
process. Payment can be made by all major credit cards.
Step 4: After purchasing, you can access your e-book by logging into your account and
clicking My Digital Materials.
If you experience any difficulties, please email orders@cognella.com, and they will help
you out.

5. I will be available to answer your questions by e-mail (my e-mail address is:
azecevic@scu.edu). I generally respond very quickly, so this is a pretty good way to
communicate with me. If you would like to arrange a skype meeting, we can do that by
appointment.
