UNIT: CAREERS IN COMPUTING

GROUP PROJECT: IN GROUPS OF FOURS

Employment of computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 12 percent from 2014 to
2024, faster than the average for all occupations. These occupations are expected to add about 488,500 new
jobs, from about 3.9 million jobs to about 4.4 million jobs from 2014 to 2024, in part due to a greater emphasis
on cloud computing, the collection and storage of big data, more everyday items becoming connected to the
Internet in what is commonly referred to as the “Internet of things,” and the continued demand for mobile
computing.

Below is a list of prominent and trending careers in Computer Science and Information Technology.

THE REQUIREMENTS OF PROJECT

In pairs, you will be required to conduct a research and prepare a POWER-POINT presentation on ANY one of the
computing careers above. Prepare to do an ORAL presentation.

1. On slide 1, you must have the following information: School’s Name, Subject Name, Title of the
project, which is “Careers in Computing”, Class, Teacher’s Name, Name of group members and
the Date prepared. [1 mark]
2. One slide 2, use Title Slide Layout, you must have the specific name of the Computing Career you
picked, for example, Web Designer, with a suitable picture [1 mark]
3. On slide 3, you must state the definition of the career you picked. [1 mark]
4. On slide 4, you will briefly describe ANY two function of the career you picked. [2 marks]
5. On slide 5, using bulleted points, list THREE benefits of obtaining certification in this field. [4 marks]
6. On slide 6, state ONE required certification you need to in this field of computing along with ONE
institution in Jamaica and ONE overseas that provides certification in this field. [3 marks]
7. On slide 7, state the CSEC or CAPE subject needed to be study this career at the tertiary level[2 marks]
8. On slide 8, state the correct salary range of the career both in Jamaica and the $US [2 marks]
9. On slide 9, insert an advertisement of a company in Jamaica advertisement a job in this field. This
advertisement must be published no more than 6 months ago. If there is none in Jamaica, use an ad from
any other country. [2 marks]
10. On slide 10, state ALL references you have gather information. [2 marks]

 Use at least three sources.

 Use appropriate background designs from the PowerPoint templates. You may use online templates.
