Draft A (2016-06-30)
Compared with Issue 01 (2016-02-29) of GBSS18.1, Draft A (2016-06-30) of GBSS19.0
includes the following changes.
2 Overview
2.1 Background
After decades of development, GSM networks have grown to accommodate a large number of
features and parameters. These parameters must be adjusted properly on different networks in
accordance with different network plans and traffic volumes. Due to the network complexity,
the parameters sometimes are set to inappropriate values. The inappropriate parameters may
cause performance problems.
DSON optimizes configurations in the following scenarios:
When certain unplanned events, such as parades or other mass gatherings occur, traffic
increases sharply. In such traffic burst scenarios, users cannot optimize their network
configuration in advance to avoid network congestion. Network congestion may occur at any
time. In this case, DSON can automatically identify congestion scenarios and implement
corresponding operations to eliminate the congestion.
Inappropriate parameter settings deteriorate network performance if congestion occurs in any
of the following scenarios: concentric cells, half-rate voice services, paging, and satellite
transmission over the Abis interface. DSON can automatically identify these scenarios, and
check and adjust parameters accordingly.
2.2 Introduction
DSON covers the following features:
2.3 Benefits
DSON automatically identifies paging overload and TCH congestion and implements
corresponding operations to resolve theses problems. Alternatively, DSON adjusts parameters
in certain scenarios to achieve optimal network performance. In this way, network operation
and maintenance work is simplified for customers, reducing the OPEX and improving system
stability.
3 Technical Description
3.1.1 Introduction
This feature enables BSCs to monitor the paging status on the network in real time. When
paging overloads exceed certain thresholds, the BSCs automatically adjust the parameters of
the following paging-related features to improve network performance:
l CS Layered Paging
l Layered Paging
l Dynamic Multiple CCCH
3.1.2 Principles
This feature takes effect when PagingOvldCtrlStThld(BSC6900,BSC6910) is set to a value
other than 255. In such a case, BSCLayeredPagingSW(BSC6900,BSC6910) is automatically
set to ON(On) and the BSC adjusts paging-related parameters according to control levels.

3.2.1 Introduction
This feature enables BSCs to monitor the loads on TCHs on the network in real time. When
the loads on the TCHs exceed certain thresholds, the BSCs automatically activate related
functions, or adjust related parameters to relieve TCH congestion, thereby improving network
performance. These functions include TCHF-TCHH handover, inter-cell handover, and
directed retry. These parameters include TCH Traffic Busy Threshold and AMR TCH/H
Prior Cell Load Threshold.
3.2.2 Principles
This feature takes effect when TCHCongCtrlStThld(BSC6900,BSC6910) is set to a value
other than 255. In such a case, the BSC adjusts related parameters based on control levels.

3.3.1 Introduction
This feature enables BSCs to periodically inspect network scenario characteristics and
perform parameter checks. When identifying inappropriate parameter settings in the
concentric cell, half-rate speech version, paging, or satellite transmission over Abis scenario,
the BSCs adaptively adjust the parameter settings to the network scenarios. In this way, this
feature prevents inappropriate parameter settings from affecting network performance.
3.3.2 Principles
This feature takes effect when one or multiple options of the
AutoParaAdjustSw(BSC6900,BSC6910) parameter are selected. The
AutoParaAdjustSw(BSC6900,BSC6910) parameter provides the following options:
IUOADJUST(Concentric Cell Adjustment), HRADJUST(Half-Rate Adjustment),
PGADJUST(Paging Adjustment), and ABISSATELLITEADJUST(Abis Satellite
Transmission Adjustment). The BSC identifies scenarios and adjusts parameters when the
feature is enabled and in every early morning.
Half-Rate Adjustment
The Half-Rate Adjustment function takes effect when HRADJUST(Half-Rate Adjustment)
is selected for AutoParaAdjustSw(BSC6900,BSC6910). In such a case, the BSC checks
whether a half-rate speech version is configured. If it is, the BSC will check the setting of
TCHAJFLAG(BSC6900,BSC6910). When the setting of TCHAJFLAG(BSC6900,BSC6910)
is inappropriate, the BSC automatically adjusts it.
Paging Adjustment
The Paging Adjustment function takes effect when PGADJUST(Paging Adjustment) is
selected for AutoParaAdjustSw(BSC6900,BSC6910). In such a case, the BSC checks and
adaptively adjusts the setting of BSPAMFRAMS(BSC6900,BSC6910). Based on the settings
of NMO(BSC6900,BSC6910) and GPRS(BSC6900,BSC6910), the BSC also adaptively
enables or disables the BSS Paging Coordination feature by adjusting the setting of
BSSPAGINGCOORDINATION(BSC6900,BSC6910).
DSON. You can also run the following commands to query the manually configured and
current settings:
l DSP GCELLSON
l DSP BSCSON (only applicable for the Automatic Paging Overload Control feature)
l DSP GTRXSON (only applicable for the Half-Rate Adjustment function)

Set the parameter described in Table 6-14 on the CME. For instructions on how to perform
the CME single configuration, see CME Single Configuration Operation Guide.
Step 2 (Optional) Modify objects in batches on the CME. (CME batch modification center)
To modify objects (such as BSCs, BTSs, TRXs, GSM cells, and GSM external cells) in
batches, click on the CME to start the batch modification wizard. For instructions on how
to perform a batch modification through the CME batch modification center, press F1 while
running the wizard to obtain online help.

Step 1 Run DSP commands to query the manually configured settings and the current settings of
DSON parameters.
1. Run the BSC MML command DSP GCELLSON, select a cell, and set Query Feature
Type to AUTOPARAADJUST(base_background_adapter). If you do not select a cell,
the cell-level DSON parameters of all cells controlled by the BSC will be queried.
2. Run the BSC MML command DSP GTRXSON with Object Type set to BYCELL(By
CELL) or BYTRX(By TRX), and then specify Cell Index, Cell Name, TRX ID, or
TRX Name, to query the configured and current values of TRX-level parameters for this
feature.
Expected result: Cell-level and TRX-level parameters related to this feature are displayed, and
the configured values and current values of the parameters are inconsistent if the original
configurations were inappropriate.
Step 2 Check the parameter adjustment log of DSON. If there are parameter adjustment records in
the parameter adjustment log, the Adaptive Scenario-based Parameter Adjustment feature has
been activated.
Expected result: The parameters that were adaptively adjusted by this feature are displayed in
the DSON log.
To query the parameter adjustment log of DSON, perform the following steps:
1. Run the BSC MML command LST OMUAREA to check the workspace where the
parameter adjustment log is stored.
2. In the ftp\intfself_mngmt\ directory of the workspace, check the file
BSCID_DEPLOY_GCELLSON, BSCID_DEPLOY_GCELLSON_time.log.zip, or
BSCID_DEPLOY_GCELLSON_timeDST.log.zip.
NOTE
If the parameter adjustment log is greater than 0.5 MB, it is compressed. If the daylight saving time
(DST) is used, the file name of the parameter adjustment log contains a DST identifier.
The following table describes the mapping relationships between the values of switch
parameters and the parameter values in the parameter adjustment log.
