HERBAL PLANTS AS AN ALTERNATIVE CURE FOR DANDRUFF USED BY

THE LOCAL PEOPLE IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF ROSARIO

ABSTRACT

Keywords: Malazessia, Seborrhoeic dermatitis, informants.

Dandruff is a rampant skin disease that is common to people in the world, it is caused

by the weather, and the dirt more specifically the fungus called malazessia that yields

to a more complicated infection with the involvement of bacteria, seborrhoeic

dermatitis. People nowadays appreciate the use of herbal plants in curing diseases such

as dandruff. This study documents the herbal plants as an alternative cure for dandruff

used by the local people of Rosario, Agusan del Sur. The herbal plants totally gathered

was eight namely Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis), Chili (Capsicum annuum), Coconut

(Cocos nucifera), Lime (Citrus aurantiifolia), Lemon (Citrus limon), Ringworm Shrub

(Cassia alata), Citronella grass (Cymbopogon nardus) and Banana (Musa sapientum).

The herbal plants were analyzed according to the conditions set by the study as to the

usage of the informants to a certain herbal plant, and also all of the plants were provided

with scientific explanation as to how the plants cured the dandruff through a found

literature reviews. It was proven that the plants were composed by compounds that has

an antifungal and antibacterial activities that is found to be effective in curing dandruff,

such as tannis, alkaloids, glycosides, terpenoids, steroids, phenolic compounds and

flavonoids.

Informants, the respondents of the study, who imparted their knowledge about the

use of herbal plants;
