1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The executive design for TS 33/220Kv, Kovačica Wind Farm, presupposes the construction of an
administration building, a transformer foundation with ecological oil pit and supporting sewage and
drainage well. It also presupposes cable canals for connections of Energy transformers, power
distribution switchgear of 220kV and power control building with administrative building.
The construction of a Command operative building, relay houses and a well house is also envisaged
within the design for the execution of Kovačica Wind Farm Connection.

1.1 Construction of the administration building

Administration building has a rectangular base with dimensions 26.84м x 15.71м.

The basic structural system of the administration building is the reinforced concrete skeleton
system. The pillars of the spatial skeleton are evenly distributed in the base. The dimensions of all
pillars are 25cm x 25 cm.
The facility should be founded on the strip foundation of the inverted T cross-section of 100cm in
width and 40cm in height and on foundation beams. Depth of foundation of the structure,
measured from the terrain surface is 135cm. The roof is a full 15 cm thick sloped slab made of
reinforced concrete in and it sits on a reinforced concrete beam grillage.
A 15 cm thick full flat reinforced concrete slab is supposed to be placed above the room where
batteries are stored.
Floor type is determined according to purpose of the room. Within the building, there are cable
canals in the floor (plant 33 kV) and the thickness of reinforced concrete floor and walls is 15cm
and the lowered floor (auxiliary switchgear and control room) which has 10cm thick reinforced
concrete floor and walls.
The quality of used materials for construction elements is:
- Concrete of type MB 30 (C25/30) for all construction elements (slabs, pillars, beams,
foundations, canals etc.)
- Concrete of type MB 15 for layers of lean concrete beneath the foundations, floor slabs,
floor skirting beams etc.

1.2 Construction of power control building

Power control building has a rectangular base with dimensions 35.08m x 16.59m.
The base of the construction system of the power control building is a reinforced-concrete
system.
The pillars of the spatial skeleton are evenly distributed in the base. The dimensions of all pillars
are 25 cm x 25 cm.
The facility's foundation needs to be made on pad foundation blocks 1.8 x 1.8 x 0.4 m,
interlinked with foundation beams. The depth of the foundation drilling of the facility, measured
from the surface of the terrain is 135 cm.
The roof is a 15 cm long full sloped reinforced concrete slab and it sits on a reinforced concrete
beam grillage.
A full flat reinforced-concrete panel is positioned above the chamber for the placement of the
accumulation battery. It is 15 cm thick (except for the above mentioned sloped reinforced-concrete
panel).
2 CLASSES OF CONCRETE

Description of the construction, the building process, characteristics of certain construction

elements and building dynamics presuppose the making of concrete at the central concrete
plant and the transport of concrete to the construction site in concrete mixer trucks. According to
the representation of concrete works contractor, concrete pump will be used as means of
interior transportation at the construction site and also as a tool for pouring of concrete into the
formwork or it will be poured directly from the mixer truck.
In accordance with the stated, all sorts of concrete to be used for performance of concrete
works fall in the category B.II. Use of only one class of concrete is planned according to Table
1.

3 CONCRETE FORMULA

3.1 Quality requirements for adopted concrete components

The following materials are required for making concrete:

• natural, separated stone aggregate, originating in the Danube, "AR Gradnja"

screening plant, separated in three and four basic fractions.
• Portland cement PC 42.5R, produced by "CRH" Novi Popovac,
• water from the urban water supply system.

Considering the upcoming season, it is justified to assume the performance of concrete

works at low temperatures. In regards to that, appropriate measures for protection and care
of concrete should be taken.

3.1.1 Quality requirements for aggregate

Aggregate for making concrete must meet quality requirement stipulated by the standard
SRPSB.B2.010
• Mineral-petrographic composition, SRPSB.B0.001
• Concentration of the constituents preventing cement hydration,
• Aggregate grain density, SRPSB.B8.031

3.1.2 Quality requirements for cement

Cement which will be used for making the concrete must fulfil quality conditions stipulated by the
standard SRPSB.C1.011 which are listed in table 3

10. Standard strength, MPa min. 35 after 28 days

3.1.3 Quality requirements for water

Given that drinking water from urban water supply is used for making concrete, water testing
is not required.

3.1.4 Quality requirements for chemical admixtures - concrete additives

Given that standard class (brand) concrete, which will be pumped in with a concrete pump, is
used for execution of concrete works, the use of additives such as superplasticizers is not
required. Given that it is required for concrete to be freezing-resistant, the use of antifreeze
additives is required The effect of the additives on concrete properties during previous testing
should be tested according to SRPSU.М1.036 standard or by previous tests, whereby
manufacturer's recommendations must be respected.

3.2 Results from previous tests of concrete constituents

The aggregate manufacturer must provide valid six-month reports on the testing
as well as a proven appropriateness of the natural mixture for production of separated
aggregate, as well as all fractions of separated aggregate which are used for making concrete
according to SRPSB.B2.010 standards listed in item 3.1.1. Six-month reports on testing and
proven suitability of the separated aggregate for making concrete according to SRPSB.B2.010
standards will make the integral part of this concrete design.

The aggregate manufacturer must perform monthly control tests for basic quality requirements
for fractions of the separated aggregate according to SRPSB.B3.100 standards (requirements
from table 3). Monthly control reports are also an integral part of this concrete design.
The contractor must inspect the suitability of cement with respect of its physical and
mechanical properties according to the requirements listed in item 3.1.2, table 3. In the
light of previous statements, the report on cement testing done during previous concrete
tests can be accepted as an integral part of the concrete design

Report on previous testing of concrete made with selected additives can also be accepted as
an integral part of the concrete design, in order to test the influence of chemical admixtures -
additives on the properties of fresh and hardened concrete.

3.3 Results from previous testing of properties of fresh and hardened concrete which
have been adopted for certain classes of concrete

The results of testing the properties of fresh and hardened concrete are given in the annex
to this concrete design.

4 CONCRETE BATCHES

A concrete batch is a quantity of concrete of the same size prepared and installed in the same
construction elements on a facility in a given time period. One concrete batch, in terms of the
stated above, is limited by the period of production and concrete installation of up to a month.

Defining of concrete batches allows evaluation of the achieved concrete brand (class) for
particular parts of a facility for a given period of construction, so, in case it happens, the
construction elements in which concrete failed to achieve the desired strength could be
separated specifically.

A concrete batch can encompass the same construction elements of the entire structure – only
panels, for instance, or only pillars, only beams, etc. depending on the size of the structure.
When it comes to small-sized structure, a number of constructive elements can be joined
together into a single concrete batch, provided that they are made of the same type of
concrete.

5 PRODUCTION, TRANSPORT AND PLACING OF CONCRETE

Concrete mixer trucks need to be used to transport fresh concrete from the plant to the
construction site, and in the cold winter temperatures, insulation must be used to protect
excessive cooling of the concrete during transport. The temperature of the concrete must not be
lower than +5°C at the moment of placing. Estimated times, necessary for loading the concrete
mixer truck, transporting the concrete to the construction site, unloading concrete into the
concrete pump hopper and pouring the concrete with final treatment, are provided in table 4.

The concrete pump should be used as the means of internal transport within the construction
site. If necessary, the following can be used to transport concrete:

• mini dumper,
• two-wheel wheelbarrow, concrete cart,
• one-wheel wheelbarrow.

Appropriate instrument should be used for pouring concrete into the formwork, depending on the
consistency of fresh concrete. For concrete with plastic or low-plastic consistency, a 20mm to
40mm (max. diameter needle (internal) vibrator should be used 60mm) depending on the
dimensions of the cross-section of the concrete elements and arrangement of the reinforcement.
The depth of the layer of concrete in which the needle is submerged should not be more than 70
cm, and distance between the adjacent places where the needle is submerged should be
approximately 30 cm, unless specified otherwise by the manufacturer. Duration of vibration at
one spot (measured from inserting until withdrawing the needle from the concrete mass) should
be 20 to 40 seconds. If the vibration is too short, it does not provide good enough compaction,
whereas too much vibrating causes segregation of concrete. Both situations reflect negatively on
the concrete strength. It should be noted that for placing concrete of liquid consistency it is often
enough to just pierce it with a steel bar.

6 METHOD OF CURING PLACED CONCRETE

Curing concrete represents a very important stage within the technological process of
realisation of concrete works. It is done primarily with the goal of preventing excess loss of
water from concrete which is necessary for cement hydration, preventing harmful
consequences caused by excessive early concrete shrinkage, as well as negative effects of
low temperature on fresh concrete when concreting performed during the winter.
Immediately after concrete works and finishing works, free concrete surfaces need to be
protected from drying too fast caused by wind during the winter, as well as from rain and snow. A
simple way is, for example, to cover it with nylon or soaked jute fabric.
Having in mind the properties of concrete which will be placed in the construction, the minimal
period of curing is 3 days. If the concrete works are realised in low temperature conditions (during
winter, below +5°C) the following steps have to be taken:

• high class of cement should be used, 42.5 or 52.5, and cement class lower than stated should
be avoided
• material batching according to formula for making concrete should be adhered to when making
concrete, and batching can be slightly increased during the summer relative to the given formula,
• if the average daily temperature is below +5°C, accelerating additives may be used
according to the instructions issued by the manufacturer and consulting the relevant
laboratory, whereby concrete works during the coldest part of the day should be avoided,
• it is necessary to measure the temperature of the fresh concrete mass before placing it and
it must not be below +5°C,
• if the measured temperature is lower than the aforementioned, immediately consult the line
supervising body, as well as line laboratory regarding possible corrections of the formula and
also apply the measure of heating concrete components - primarily water and aggregates,
• all the time during the transport, concrete has to be protected from excessive cooling,
• immediately after placing it, the aforementioned measures need to be taken for curing fresh
concrete.

7 THE PROGRAM OF CONTROL TESTING OF CONCRETE COMPONENTS

7.1 Control testing of aggregate

With the goal of providing constant and required quality of concrete, control testing of
aggregate needs to be done in accordance with the requirements provided below:
• In the period when concrete is made, aggregate granulometric composition is checked
(controlled) once a week. Aggregate sample for sieving should be taken according to provisions of
SRPS B.B0.001 standard, while sieving is done according to SRPS ISO 6274 standard. If these
control sieves determine significant deviation of the granulometric composition of aggregate for
making concrete from the granulometric composition required by the formula, the formula for
concrete must immediately be corrected. It is not allowed for aggregate granulometric
composition to exit the area set by standard granulometric composition curves A and B defined
by SRPS U.М1.057 standard. Control testing of aggregate granulometric composition can be
performed in a laboratory at the concrete mixing plant if it is equipped with all the necessary lab
equipment for said testing and trained personnel or in another competent laboratory.
• Concentration of fine particles in aggregate is checked at least once a week according to
SRPS B.B8.036. Control testing of the concentration of fine particles in aggregate can be
performed in a laboratory in the given concrete plant if it is equipped with all the necessary
lab equipment for the said testing and trained personnel or in another competent
laboratory.
• Moisture of aggregate should be checked every day when the concrete is being made, primarily
having in mind that the box in which it was delivered from the concrete mixing plant is subject to
external weather conditions. Adjustment of the required amount of water according to the
formula for making concrete must be performed in order to achieve a uniform and required
consistency of fresh concrete, as well as its other properties.
• The testing should be properly documented and minutes with all the test results must be kept.
• Samples of aggregate for testing should always be taken upon completing transport activities
i.e. from the box containing aggregate.
.

7.2 Control testing of cement

Cement used for production of concrete needs to be stored in silos which protect from moisture.
Control cement tests, listed in the text below, should be done upon every new delivery of cement,
and especially if type or class of cement is changed. The required control tests are:
• standard consistency and setting time according to provisions from the SRPS EN 196-3
standard,
• consistency of volume according to provisions from the SRPS EN 196-3 standard,
• compressive strength in case of change in type or class of cement according to SRPS EN 196-1 in
order to
correct the formula for concrete.
Control testing of standard consistency and consistency of volume can be performed in the
laboratory at the concrete mixing plant if it is equipped with all necessary equipment and trained
personnel. Otherwise, control tests must be performed by a laboratory accredited to do cement
testing. Cement strength tests are always performed by an accredited laboratory. During the
cement testing, concrete manufacturer is required to set aside a special cement sample
weighing 6 kg, which is kept in a hermetically sealed container for a minimum of 6 months or
until the facility has been handed over. This sample serves for potential super analysis in case it
is determined that the placed concrete does not match the specified requirements from the
construction project.

8 THE PROGRAM OF CONTROL TESTING OF CONCRETE

In order to ensure the required quality of concrete, the following directions should be followed
relating to the control testing of concrete:
• Consistency of fresh concrete is tested every day during first mixing or at least once during the
shift. It is very important to measure the consistency of fresh concrete mixture, which will
provide the sample of fresh concrete which will be used to make the concrete reference
standard for proving the compressive strength,
• Given that the concrete design requires liquid consistency, slump method (Abrams method)
can be applied according to SRPS ISO 4109 standard or flow method according to SRPS
U.М8.052 standard. Measured consistency values should be within the boundaries of required
consistency according to the formula for concrete,
• If the concrete is made and placed at low temperatures (below +5°C)
the temperature of fresh concrete needs to be checked upon every mixture according to SRPS
U.М1.052 standard,

• The method of sampling, storing and testing control concrete bodies for testing compressive
strength and proving the brand (class) of concrete is described in item 8.2.

9 THE PROGRAM OF CONTROLING COMPLIANCE WITH CONSTRUCTION

DESIGN TERMS

9.1 Program of controlling the concrete brand by batches

The concrete producer must regularly test the compressive strength of every type of
concrete they produce and control the brand (class) of concrete, based on the results of
the tests. For every type of concrete produced at the concrete mixing plant, testing bodies
of concrete - concrete cubes are taken in the following way:

• At least one sample of every type of concrete is taken every day when that concrete is made in
any amount lower than 50 m3.

• If more than 50 m3 of concrete is produced per day, than one sample is taken (one concrete
specimen) per every 50 m3 of concrete or per every 75 mixes depending on which criterion
provides more samples for testing compressing strength of concrete.

• If more than 2,000 m3 of one type of concrete is made, then one sample - concrete cube can
be taken per every 100 m3 of produced concrete or per every 150 mixes if that gives a bigger
number of test samples (this criterion cannot practically relate to said construction site).

Contractor must also take concrete samples out of concrete which is delivered from the
concrete mixing plant to the construction site and in accordance with the following criteria:

 For every type of concrete at least one sample for every day of concrete
works on the structure,
 One sample per every 100 m3 of concrete or per 150 mixes,
 Take one sample for each position
 If one mix covers more positions it is sufficient to take one sample,
 If the program of removing framework and scaffolding requires it, the number of
samples according to the previous criteria needs to be doubled in order to test
early strength of concrete, as well, after three or seven days, or per order by the
construction supervisor,
 For testing resistance to water penetration under pressure B-8, three control concrete
cubes need to be taken with 200mm sides or prism with a square cross-section with
200mm sides and 150mm height.

Taking into consideration the volume of concrete works on the construction site that this concrete
design was prepared for as well as that at the concrete mixing plant and at the construction site
only one class of concrete will be placed, batch which is used to prove the brand of concrete will
consist of at least three and at most sixty samples of concrete (concrete cubes) from the same
positions that were taken over the time period not longer than thirty days. If the number of
samples taken according to previously stated criteria in the period of less than thirty days is more
than thirty, after taking the thirtieth sample a new batch of concrete starts.

If significant changes in temperature occur during the realisation of concrete works, for example
if significant cooling or temperature rise occurs, the flowing batch of concrete is immediately
finalized with the last taken sample (no less than three) and a new batch of concrete begins
which consists of concrete bodies taken from the concrete which was placed under given
changed weather conditions.

Manufacturer of concrete at the concrete mixing plant and contractor at the construction site
need to take care that the new type of concrete within the same class also includes the
concrete which is made with different type of cement than the one which was stated by the
formula. This is why the simplest solution is probably to secure the required amount of same
class of cement (same label) on time, for production of concrete.

The production of concrete shall be treated as inadequate and in accordance with that, criterion
1 will be used for proving the brand of concrete for batches consisting of 3 to 15 samples.

9.2 Method of sampling, storing and testing of control concrete bodies

According to SRPS ISO 1920 standard concrete bodies for testing compression strength are
cubes with 150 mm sides or cylinders with diameter/height R/H = 150/300 mm.
It is allowed to use samples of other shapes and dimensions provided that there is an
accurately determined and reliable correlation with the aforementioned shapes. In that sense,
the construction practice often uses cubes with 200 mm sides whose test results need to be re-
calculated to the case of testing cubes with 150 mm sides and this needs to be unequivocally
stated in the strength testing report which is considered to be the job of the laboratory which
conducts the testing.

Sampling fresh concrete which shall be used for making concrete cubes for testing concrete
compression strength needs to be done according to SRPS ISO 2736-1 standard. Within the
said standard, the following rules must be adhered to, which are in the interest of contractor
and concrete manufacturer:

• a sample of fresh concrete must be at least 1.5 times bigger by volume than the volume of the
steel mould in which it will be placed,
• one sample of fresh concrete for one concrete sample (cube) should consist of at least three
individual samples (increments) taken with a trowel from different places within the concrete
mass if it is poured from the mixer on the plateau all at once, or at least three partial pouring of
a single mixing, taking increments from the first and last pouring of concrete should be avoided,
as well as taking increments from ends and the surface of fresh concrete mass, increments are
not placed immediately in the steel mould, instead, they are placed in a suitable clean container
or on a suitable surface that does not absorb water and they should be thoroughly mixed with a
trowel, time period from taking the increments to placing them in the mould should be as short
as possible, inner surface area of the mould must be coated with appropriate agent which
prevents the concrete from sticking to the mould, concrete must be placed into the mould the
same way it will be placed during concreting on the building, if needle vibrator is used, then the
needle is submerged vertically and quickly into the concrete up to depth of approximately 20
mm from the bottom of the mould, during which the vibrating continues until big air bubbles stop
appearing and until a thin layer of mortar is formed over the grain of coarse aggregate on the
surface of the concrete, vibration needle is taken out slowly so as not to leave a hole behind. The
extension needs to be removed and the surface of placed concrete flattened with a steel ruler.
Each cube needs to be clearly and permanently marked in a way which undoubtedly confirms its
identity (by scratching concrete surface, by applying colour, etc.) test tubes remain in the mould
for at least 16 hours and at most 3 days protected from shocks, shaking and loss of moisture.
Temperature of curing concrete cubes, whether they are in the mould or outside of it, needs to
be 20±2 0C, whereby the concrete cubes taken out of the moulds are kept in water of the said
temperature until the testing date (curing of concrete structures can be checked at a laboratory
which is certified for ensuring required conditions). During the transportation, test tubes also
need to be protected from drying out by wrapping them in soaked jute fabrics, in sacks with
water, in wet sand. During all previously stated procedures the minutes must be kept regularly
for each single cube; for that purpose it is recommended to use the so-called template forms
that the producer may require from the laboratory selected for curing and testing the strength of
concrete structures.

Determining the strength under pressure of concrete test tubes should be done according to
SRPS ISO 4012. Competent accredited laboratory is required to strictly comply with provisions of
this standard and to be equipped with the appropriate standardized hydraulic press. The test
report issued by the laboratory is required to be fully in compliance with requirements of SRPS
ISO 4012. All supporting measurements performed on concrete structures prior to the strength
test need to be performed by suitable standardized equipment.

1. TYPES OF ELEMENTS AND QUALITY REQUIREMENTS

In the Concrete design section, the contractor describes the structure of the building in question
and the prescribed requirements for the quality of concrete, according to project documentation.
This data should contain the type and class of concrete, position (structural element), projected
amounts and potentially other data such as, for example, maximum aggregate grain, using
additives for work in special conditions etc.
Contractor will procure fresh concrete from the concrete plant CRH (Serbia) LLC, so this part of
concrete design deals with all the necessary elements regarding requirements for material quality
for making fresh concrete, requirements for concrete composition, production, external transport
of concrete to the employer and proving the quality of concrete at the spot where it is made.
Internal transport, placing and compaction, employer (contractor) is responsible for curing and
protection of concrete. Also, employer is required, if necessary, to prove the quality for control
compliance with quality requirements from the project of construction.

2. REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPONENT MATERIALS

2.1 CEMENT
Cement made by producer CRH (Serbia) LLC, Popovac, labelled CEM II/A-L 42.5R is used for
making concrete.
Cement must be in accordance with the requirements listed in SRPS EN 197, part 1 and 2,
quality requirements, prescribed Serbian standards, listed in Article 11 of the Rulebook on
concrete and reinforced concrete, and the Rulebook on cement quality (RS Official Gazette
No.34/2013 and 44/2014).
Certificate of quality of used cement is in the annex to this study.

2.2 AGGREGATE
Natural, river aggregate, washed and separated, with fraction sizes 0/4mm, 4/8, 8/16 and
16/32mm from the Danube river, will be used for making concrete. Aggregate meets all the
quality requirements stipulated by Serbian standards listed in Article 6 of the Rulebook on
concrete and reinforced concrete. According to the Rulebook on concrete and reinforced
concrete, aggregate must meet the quality requirements from standards SRPS B.B3.100 and
SRPS B.B2.010
Grain size distribution of the aggregate mix must be such that it ensures concrete workability and
compaction.
Certificate of quality of used aggregate is provided in the annex to this study.

2.3 WATER
Water that meets the requirements referred to in Article 12 of the Rulebook on concrete and
reinforced concrete and Serbian standard SRPS U.M1.058 can be used for making concrete.

2.4 ADDITIVES
Additives which meet the quality requirements according to the Serbian standard SRPS U.M1.035
(Article 14 of the Rulebook on concrete and reinforced concrete) can be used for making
concrete. Additives may not contain harmful particles in quantities that can have adverse effects
on concrete durability or cause corrosion of the reinforcement. Additives made by company Sika
are used for making concrete. Certificate of quality of the used additives is provided in the annex
to this study.
All sorts of concrete that are produced are transport sorts of concrete with chemical additives
which maintain their consistency. It is possible to change additives, based on weather conditions
(summer/winter), with the consent of a supervisory body and the approval of an accredited
laboratory.

3. BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR CONCRETE COMPOSITON

3.1 INTRODUCTORY REMARKS

The ratio of mixing concrete components – cement, aggregate, water and additives are chosen in
a way which meets all the quality requirements for fresh and hardened concrete, including
consistency, volume, strength durability and the protection of reinforcement from corrosion.
Concrete composition must be such that placeability is achieved which suits the chosen method
of realisation of works.
The mixture is designed to reduce the possibility of segregation and separation of water from
concrete to the lowest extent possible.
The concrete is produced according to prior tests, which are done in the accredited laboratory at
the Highway Institute, with pre-selected and pre-adopted components of concrete and based on
evidence adopted by previous tests. The quality of these components is controlled according to
procedures described in 7.2.

3.2 CONCRETE STRUCTURE

The composition of concrete must be such that the concrete possess a closed structure after
compression. This requirement means that after standard compression, the air contents in the
concrete will not exceed 3% in relation to its volume, for the nominal aggregate size of <16mm, or
2% for the nominal aggregate size of ≥16mm, not accounting for air intentionally added and
pores in the aggregate.

3.3 SIZE OF AGGREGATE GRAIN

The size of the largest aggregate grain, as well as the position of the reinforcement bars must be
chosen so that the concrete is packed around the reinforcement in a satisfactory manner, without
occurrence of segregation.
The nominal size of the largest aggregate grain must not be larger than:
- one quarter of the smallest dimension of construction elements
- 1.25 times of the smallest pure horizontal gap on a reinforcement profile

3.4 CONSISTENCY DURING THE PROCESS OF PLACING

The consistency of concrete is the measure of its workability. It is selected so that fresh concrete
can be transported with a pump or a basket, so that available deposition means allow for good
compression of concrete, easy placing without occurrence of segregation and good finishing of
the area. In order to ensure compliance with the aforementioned requirements for concrete which
will be poured at the construction site, consistency is chosen according to the request of the
contractor, depending on the location where concrete will be poured, density of reinforcement,
weather, temperature...
During the execution of prior test runs, all parameters were taken into account.

3.5 ADDITIVES
The total quantity of additives shall not exceed 50 g/kg of cement, and it shall not be lower than
2 g/kg of cement in mixture either. Lower quantities of additives are permitted only if they are
dissolved in the part of water for concrete making. Liquid additives whose quantity exceeds 3
l/m3 must be taken into account when calculating the water-cement ratio.

3.6 TEMPERATURE OF CONCRETE

Except when special measures have been implemented, the temperature of fresh concrete in the
placing phase must not exceed 30 degrees Celsius and must not be below 5 degrees Celsius.

4. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR CONCRETE

4.1 GENERAL REMARKS

The technical requirements for concrete may be established for the project mix, which will require
a certain quantity of concrete, or for the prescribed mix, which prescribes a composition of
concrete based on results of prior tests or based on data received from long-time experience in
use of similar concrete.
In the specific case, the technical requirements for production of concrete are established
according to the data for the project mix.

5. CONCRETE PRODUCTION

5.1 PERSONNEL, EQUIPMENT AND INSTALLATIONS

5.1.1 PERSONNEL
The personnel tasked with production and control of concrete possesses the adequate
knowledge, expertise and experience for adequate performance of various specific tasks.
The location where concrete is produced is required to have a person with adequate knowledge
and experience responsible for overseeing the production, and in the event of transported
concrete, for delivery as well. That person, or their suitably trained representative, must be
present at the location during production. Additionally, a person needs to be appointed for the
purpose of controlling production, and must possess the necessary knowledge and expertise in
the area of concrete technology, production, testing and control systems.

5.1.2 EQUIPMENT AND INSTALLATIONS

5.1.2.1 STORAGE OF MATERIAL

Sufficient quantities of material – cement, aggregate and additives – have been secured in order
to achieve the planned production and delivery dynamic.
Different types of material are transported and stored in a manner so that their mixing with other
materials, contamination or degradation of properties is avoided.
In particular:
- cement and additives in motor cisterns and plastic containers protected from moisture and dirt
during transport and storage. Different types of cement and additives are clearly marked and
stored in a manner which removes the possibility for error.
- if the aggregates are of different size or different types are delivered separately, they shall not
be unintentionally mixed. Grains within fractions must not be segregated.
- additives are transported and stored in a manner that does not cause their quality to be
dependent on physical or chemical impacts (frost, high temperatures, etc). They are visibly
marked and stored in a manner which removes the possibility for error.
Samples can be taken, for example from landfills, silos and storage bunkers.

5.1.2.2. BATCHING EQUIPMENT

Batching equipment is such that in normal working conditions, it can reach the prescribed
accuracy. The accuracy of measuring equipment matches corresponding standards and
regulations in force at the concrete production location. Equipment is periodically inspected by
authorized entities. The scales on concrete factories are inspected regularly.

5.1.2.3. MIXERS
Mixers at the concrete plants are such that they provide even distribution of concrete
components and the homogeneity of the mixture for a certain mixing time and at a certain mixing
capacity. Mixers are maintained regularly and cleaned of potential impurities and deposits on the
blades.
Truck mixers are equipped to transport the concrete in a homogenous mixed state. Truck mixer
drums are maintained regularly and cleaned of potential impurities and deposits on the blades.

5.2. BATCHING OF COMPONENT MATERIALS

In order for the concrete mixture to be produced, the written instructions for making concrete
must include the details relating to the types and amounts of concrete components.
During the dosing, the concrete components must achieve the accuracy provided in the following
table:
Required accuracy of dosage of concrete components:

Component Accuracy
Cement ±2% of prescribed quantity
Water ±2% of prescribed quantity
Total aggregate ±3% of prescribed quantity
Admixtures ±3% of prescribed quantity
Additives ±3% of prescribed quantity

5.3. MIXING OF CONCRETE

Concrete components are mixed in a mechanical mixer, and the mixing lasts until evenly mixed
mass is achieved. The moment when all the required components are in the mixer is taken as
the starting time of mixing. Mixers must not be filled more than their nominal capacity allows.
When small amounts of additives are added, the additive must first be mixed with one part of
water used for making concrete.
When plasticizers have to be added at the spot where the concrete is placed, the concrete needs
to evenly mixed before plasticizers are added. After adding the plasticizers, the concrete must be
mixed again until the additive is completely dissolved in the mixture and achieves full effect.
The composition of fresh concrete must not be changed after it is unloaded from the mixer.

6. TRANSPORT, PLACING AND CURING OF FRESH CONCRETE

6.1 PERSONNEL
Personnel involved in the transport, placing and curing of concrete must have appropriate
knowledge, training and experience for performing certain specific jobs. A person with
appropriate knowledge and experience must be appointed to the site where concrete is being
placed. This person will be responsible for concrete acceptance, transport to the site of placing,
as well as all the activities related to the placing and curing of concrete. This person, or their well-
trained representative, must be present during the placing of concrete. Concrete is no longer the
responsibility of the producer of concrete, once it is delivered to the construction site and taken
over by the person responsible for its placing.

6.2 TRANSPORT
Required measures must be taken in order to prevent segregation, loss of ingredients or pollution
of fresh concrete during transport and unloading.
Maximum allowed duration of transport is very much dependant on the concrete composition and
atmospheric conditions.
In relation to internal transport of concrete mixtures the possible solution is:
- Transporting concrete on truck mixers, where the drum of the mixer should revolve at the speed
of 4-6 rev/min.
- transporting concrete through concrete pump.
Not more than 3 hours should pass from the moment of starting the mixing of concrete
components until the moment the placing is over, in order to avoid the change in the structure of
the concrete mix.
Distance of the concrete base from the construction site in question, in Kovačica, is 45 km.
Concrete must be transported and placed in the formwork in a way that prevents the occurrence
of segregation, and the height of free fall must not be more than 1.5m.

6.3. CONSISTENCY UPON DELIVERY

If upon delivery, concrete consistency is not as specified in technical requirements and within the
limits of the design, concrete must be rejected.
However, in case its consistency is lower than required, and concrete is still in the truck mixer,
consistency can be brought to the required value by means of a proper additive, if allowed by
technical requirements. In cases as such, the batching of additive must be done gradually,
whereby the mixing should last at least 5 minutes, while the speed of mixing should be higher so
as to ensure homogeneity of the mixture.
Batching must be in accordance with the technical document and systemic information for
additive batching.
Consistency can be brought to the required value exclusively with the consent and in the
presence of a supervising authority or its authorised representative.

6.4. PLACING AND COMPACTION

Concrete needs to be placed as soon as possible after its making (mixing) in order to reduce to a
minimum any loss of its workability.
While spreading, in cases when free falling of concrete is allowed, all available precaution
measures must be taken in order to prevent concrete segregation.
Concrete needs to be well compacted during its disposition, especially around its reinforcement,
at points where other parts are installed, in formwork corners, so as to produce a full mass
without air bubbles, especially in the zone of protective layer.
Special requirements for surface finishing must be especially specified.
Spreading and compacting require special attention in order to avoid damages of reinforcement
and formwork. Concrete must not be spread by vibrating.

6.5. CURING AND PROTECTION

6.5.1. GENERAL REMARKS

In order to achieve anticipated potential properties of concrete, especially in its surface layer,
curing and protection are required within a specific period of time.
Curing and protection need to start as soon as possible after concrete compaction.
By curing concrete is protected from too quick drying, especially under the influence of sun and
wind.
By protecting it, we prevent:
-washing out by rainfall or running water
-quick cooling during the first few days after disposition
-impact of low temperatures or frost
-vibrations and shocks which could damage concrete and affect its adhesion to reinforcement
After disposition concrete must be protected so as to ensure its hydration and avoid damage due
to quick and early contraction. If at the beginning of hydration pores near to the very surface of
concrete are not completely saturated with water, adverse, more porous structure will be formed.

6.5.2. METHODS OF CURING CONCRETE

The method of curing needs to be defined before the beginning of the works at the construction
site.
Basic methods of curing concrete are as follows:
- removal a formwork only after the appropriate period of time
- covering with plastic foils
- placing of wet covers
- spraying with water
- applying curing agents for forming a protective membrane
- steam curing of concrete.
Curing procedures can be applied either separately or combined.

6.5.3. CURING TIME

Required curing time depends on the speed at which the specific impermeability (resistance to
penetration of gases and liquids) of the surface layer has been achieved. On the basis of this, the
curing time needs to be specified according to one of the following parameters:
- on the basis of concrete maturity based on the level of hydration of concrete mixture and
environment conditions
- in accordance with local conditions
Supposing that concrete works are performed in conditions of normal temperatures (5-30 0C), the
curing must be applied immediately upon completing concrete disposition. The period of curing
should be at least 7 days, namely until placed concrete reaches 60% of the specified label (BAB
87).

6.5.4. PROTECTION FROM THERMAL SURFACE CRACKS

During the process of hardening, concrete must be protected from damages incurred by activities
of internal or external limitations for the movement caused by heat which developed in concrete.
When cracks are not allowed, proper measures need to be taken so as to ensure that straining
tensions, caused by temperature differences, are fewer than concrete strength under the
straining at that moment.

6.5.5. PROTECTION FROM FREEZING

Period of protection from freezing can be calculated on the basis of maturity of concrete.
Alternatively, further protection is not needed in case of achieving the strength under pressure of
5 MPa.
6.5.6. PERFORMANCE OF WORKS IN SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Performance of works in special conditions refers to periods when the external temperature is
below 5oC or above 30oC. The concrete plant which delivers concrete mixtures for the given
construction site, if attested pursuant to provisions of the standard SRPS U.M1.050 and SRPS
U.M1.051, needs to be equipped also for the production of concrete in the said (special)
conditions. This means that it should have equipment for heating and cooling of some of concrete
components, so as to ensure that the initial temperature of fresh concrete in the phase of its
disposition is not below 5oC (in winter conditions) and above 30oC (in summer conditions). IN
addition the concrete plant should also ensure the use of appropriate admixtures to concrete
(antifreeze and accelerators in winter conditions and retardants in summer conditions).
The concrete plant is equipped with the systems for heating aggregate in winter conditions of
concrete production and the system for cooling aggregate and water in summer conditions of
production. The systems as such enable the making of concrete with temperatures within the
limits prescribed by the Rulebook BAB87 and in case of very low or very high temperatures.

6.6. REMOVAL OF FORMWORK – WHERE APPLICABLE

Formwork can be removed if appropriate strength of concrete is achieved in compliance with
bearing capacity and deflection of construction and when formwork is no longer needed for the
purpose of curing concrete. Formwork should be removed by stages, without shaking and shocks,
at the moment when concrete reaches sufficient strength.
If concrete element is overloaded at the moment of formwork removal, concrete strength must be
in compliance with the concrete label stipulated by the design.
The stated conditions for formwork removal presuppose the creation of special control samples
of concrete which will be treated in the same way as concrete construction and kept close to the
very construction (under the same conditions as the construction) and which will be periodically
tested for strength under pressure. These samples should be taken within the control of approval
which is an obligation on the part of the contractor who ordered concrete.

7. QUALITY CONTROL PROCEDURES

7.1. GENERAL REMARKS

During production, deposition and curing of concrete, quality control must be carried out.
Quality control is defined as a set of activities and decisions taken in accordance with technical
requirements, as well as the checking compliance with stipulated requirements.
Quality control consists of two separate yet mutually related parts:
-Production control – performed by concrete manufacturer
-Approval control – performed by a customer who ordered concrete, contractor at the
construction site.

7.2. PRODUCTION CONTROL – AT THE CONCRETE PLANT

7.2.1. GENERAL REMARKS

Production control includes all measures which are needed to reach and maintain the quality of
concrete so could meet the stipulated requirements. The control includes all checks and tests as
well as the use of the results of testing equipment, basic materials, fresh and hardened concrete.
The control also includes the checks before concreting as well as all checks regarding transport,
deposition and curing of fresh concrete.
Production control is carried out by concrete producer. In order to carry out control and testing of
equipment, material and concrete, adequate conditions and means (equipment) of testing need
to be ensured.
All relevant data obtained from production control at the concrete plant have to be entered in the
book of data records (a journal) or other appropriate document, for example:
- name of the supplier of cement, aggregate, additive
- concrete consistency
- density of fresh concrete
- water-cement ratio
- volume of added water in fresh concrete
- cement quantity
- date and time of sampling
- number of samples
- time schedule of performing particular works during the deposition and curing of concrete
- temperature and weather conditions during concrete deposition and curing.
Any discrepancies from the established procedure with respect to transport, delivery, deposition
and curing need to be recorded and the person responsible must be notified about them.
The stated production control procedures need to be authenticated by an accredited institution
(Highway Institute) which according to the Rulebook performs routine inspection of the concrete
plant within the control of approval.
According to previously achieved agreement or according to national standards or regulations
applicable at the place of using concrete, testing carried out within production control can be
taken into account in the control of approval, if such control is conditioned.

7.2.2. CONCRETE CONTROL – CONTROL OF PRODUCTION AT THE CONCRETE PLANT

Production control of category B.II is specified in the standard SRPS U.M1051 and it involves:
a) testing of concrete material components
b) testing of fresh concrete
c) testing of hardened concrete and evaluation of achieved concrete brand.
a) Since aggregate, cement and concrete admixtures are used in the production of concrete
mixtures, attested and in accordance with proper orders on mandatory attestation, the testing
of material components for concrete presupposes the testing of aggregate, cement and
additive.
1) The testing of aggregate involves:
-granulometric composition of all fractions (SPRS B.B8029) – at least once a week (SRPS
U.M1051)
-moisture of all fractions, especially fine aggregate (SRPS B.B8.035) – at least once a week
and whenever there is a visible change (SRPS U.M1051)
2) The testing of cement involves the determining of:
- standard consistency
- beginning and end of binding
- volumetric steadiness.

All of the stated testing is performed according to a series of standards SRPS EN 196 and
SRPS EN 197. The samples are tested upon each daily delivery of cement of the same class or
type, or if cement was maturing for more than 3 months. One testing covers maximum 250 t of
delivered or used cement. Upon each testing a special sample needs to be separated and kept
for 6 months according to the standard SRPS B.C1.012 for the purpose of possible additionally
proving of cement quality.
The entire control testing of cement is done on daily basis and all data are available at the
concrete plant.
All of the mentioned testing is done on the samples taken from the aggregate landfill at the
concrete factory, or from the cement silo.
b) Testing of fresh concrete involves determining of the following:
- consistency – when taking the samples for the making of concrete structures, in each
production shift, or for each 50 m3 of produced concrete of the same class, produced according
to the same formula (SRPS ISO 4190)
- determining the content of absorbed air in aerated concrete, if required (SRPS ISO 4848)
- density – when taking samples for the creation of concrete structures (SPS ISO 6276)
temperature of concrete mixture – when testing consistency and density, while performing
the works in special conditions upon delivery of each truck mixer (SRPS U.M1.032)
c) Testing of hardened concrete presupposes the following proof:
- concrete brand (SRPS U.M1.051),
- water-resistance, if required (SRPS U.M1.015 or SRPS EN 12390-8, SRPS U.M1.206),
- freezing resistance, if requested (SRPS U.M1.016 or SRPS U.M1.206),
- resistance to frost and unfreezing salt, if required (SRPS U.M1055 or SRPS U.M1206).

Making and curing of samples for the stated testing will be performed in accordance with the
standard SRPS ISO 2736-1 and 2:1997, and the testing of strength under pressure according to
the standard SRPS ISO 4012.
The range of samples depends on the produced volume of concrete mixture, or the length of the
production process, which means that:
- one sample is taken for each 50 m3 of produced concrete (or 75 mixture, depending
which of the conditions provides more samples) for proving the concrete brand, or one sample is
taken on daily basis when making concrete of one type.
This way we obtain a certain number of samples which refer to the batches of concrete that
match concrete production at the plant. One should be careful that the minimum number of
samples for testing the concrete strength under pressure which refers to a single batch may be 3
and the maximum number may be 30. One batch must not refer to a period of concrete
production longer than a month.

Certain quantities of concrete must be divided into several batches, so the number of samples
referring to one batch should not exceed 30 units and so none of the batches could include the
period of concrete production longer than a month. Defining of batches based on the stated time
requirement is based on certain assumptions on works performance dynamics, so in case of
failure to meet the assumptions during the construction of the structure, the number of batches
or the number of the samples for concrete quality evaluation by batches need to be adjusted. All
samples for proving the quality referring to particular batches should be taken successively
during the performance of particular concreting. Each sample should cover the proportional
quantity of concrete of one batch. Samples for testing a concrete brand are cubes with 15 cm
long sides.
Since the concrete plant has a continual production of concrete mixture matching the types of
concrete applied in works on a particular structure, the concrete brand must be proved once in
three months. This proving is done in all in accordance with SRPS U.M1.051.

7.2.3. CONTROL BEFORE CONCRETING

All required controls before concreting fall among the mandatory works of the contractor (the
concrete purchaser) and they should be defined in a section of the concrete design drafted and
presented by this person.

7.2.4. CONTROL DURING TRANSPORT, PLACING AND CURING OF FRESH CONCRETE

During transport, concrete producer CRH (Serbia) is required to check concrete homogeneity
while all other checks are done by the customer who ordered concrete.
7.3. CONTROL OF APPROVAL

7.3.1. GENERAL REMARKS

The control of approval (compliance with prescribed requirements) is a combination of
procedures and decisions made in accordance with the prior accepted rules for the purpose of
checking compliance of previously specified batches with technical requirements.
Compliance or non-compliance with the prescribed requirements is defined on the basis of the
criteria for consent evaluation. Compliance indicates acceptance whereas non-compliance with
prescribed requirements may indicate further procedure. The controlling, sampling, quantity of
one batch and criteria for approval evaluation must be in accordance with the procedures stated
in the Rulebook of BAB 87. All activities referring to item 7.3 fall among obligations of the
contractor (a party which ordered concrete)

7.4. ADDITIONAL CONTROL – SUPERCONTROL OF PRODUCTION

In accordance with positive practice and concrete quality assurance, the company CRH (Serbia)
has engaged an accredited laboratory of the Highway Institute as its controlling body. It has
entered into agreement with the Institute on the supervision of the factory laboratory for concrete,
on the basis of which an authorised representative of the Institute at least once a month pays a
visit to the plant’s laboratory for concrete and makes the records on the laboratory’s operations.

8. FINAL EVALUATION OF THE QUALITY OF CONCRETE IN THE CONSTRUCTION

As this case involves concrete of category B1I, the final evaluation is mandatory and it includes:
-documents on taking over concrete by batches, and the concrete plant’s report on the achieved
concrete brand (obligation of the concrete supplier)
- possible reports on additional assurance of concrete quality (obligation of the contractor)
- opinion on the quality of the installed concrete issued on the basis of visual inspection of the
construction, inspection of documents on constructing, and verification of the results from the
records on current production control, with the results controlling compliance with quality terms
(evaluation of the accomplished concrete brand) – obligation of the contractor.
The completed evaluation of the quality of concrete in the construction is used for the purpose of
proving safety and durability of the construction or otherwise an additional assertion of concrete
quality is requested.
The final evaluation of the quality of concrete in the construction, as a document for technical
examination, is provided by a supervising service or an organization authorised for supervision.

3.0. FINDINGS

Pursuant to established test results, we hereby conclude that the tested fractioned natural aggregate from the Danube
river and from AR GRADNJA screening plant, has the following properties:
- Mineral and petrographic composition of aggregate is good. It consists of strong and sound mineral grains of all
three genetic groups of rocks. Quartzite are predominant within the coarse fraction and, to a fewer extent,
sandstone. The share of monomineral grains, with quartz as the prevailing one, increases relative to the
decrease of grains in size.
- Frost-resistant (testing by salt Na2SO4 crystallization effect).
2- -2
- Chemically harmful components for concrete (S , SO2 and Cl), aggregate does not contain or it contains them in
minimum and allowed quantity.
- Actual density of water-saturated and surface-dry grain of aggregate is within the required limits for a normal
mass aggregate.
- Made-up density in loose and compacted dry condition are provided in the table on page no. 8.
- Water absorption is within the specified limits.
- The content of organic matter in a clay ball in aggregate was not noticed.
- Content of light particles and feeble grains was not registered.
- Coated aggregate grain surface with clay film was not registered.
- Resistance of aggregate on dynamic shocks (crushing) and wearing by abrasion (coefficient “Los Angeles”) is
within the values specified for the making of concrete.
- Granulometric structure of fine fraction is in line with the specified values.
- The content of undersized and oversized grains for large fractions is within the specified limits.
- The content of fine particles is within the specified limits.
- Fine grain fraction module is within the specified limits.

Standard SRPS U.M1.015 (1998) defines the method of testing concrete resistance to water penetration under pressure while
it does not specify the coefficients of concrete water-impermeability nor does it provide the criteria for evaluation of water-
impermeability. According to the client's request, V-10+2 (or B-10+2) coefficient of concrete water-impermeability is provided
for this class of concrete, as defined by recalled standard SRPS U.M1.015 (1978) and the Rulebook of technical standards for
concrete and reinforced concrete (1978). This standard from 1978 defined the criteria for the evaluation of concrete water-
impermeability. For that reason maximum water pressure of 1200 kPa (12 bars) was applied additionally in the testing,
whereby the testing deviated from defined 700 kPa (7 bars) prescribed by the standard SRPS U.M1.=15 (1998) so the
requested coefficient of water-impermeability could be evaluated.

9. INSPECTION OF HOMOGENEITY OF MIXING ACCORDING TO STANDARD SRPS U.M1.028:1982

Homogeneity of concrete mixed my means of concrete mixer at the concrete plant was evaluated according to the
criteria of SRPS U.M1.028:1982 standard on the samples taken and evaluated according to SRPS U.M1.030:1982
standard (Report on testing composition of fresh concrete by rinsing method marked as SSB-16-04).

Natural separated aggregate in fractions 0/4, 478, 8/16 and 16/32mm was used for the creation of test concrete
mixtures which, at the time of testing, was in boxes and baskets of the concrete factory CRH (Serbia) LLC in Krnjača.
The producer of aggregates holds a valid certificate for used aggregate, issued by accredited Certification body.

Also, the producer of selected cement and the producer of concrete admixtures, owns valid certificates.
In the selection of trials of concrete mixtures for the inspection of homogeneity of mixing, trials with three different
consistencies were done, as stipulated by the standard: Trial of concrete B3 of weak plastic consistency (50mm slug,
pursuant to Article 22 of the Rulebook on technical norms for concrete and reinforced concrete of 1987) with the
cement volume of 250 kg/m3; then Trial of concrete B1 of liquid consistency (180mm settling according to SRPS ISO
4109:1997) with the cement volume of 330 kg/m 3 and Trial B2 of plastic consistency (100mm subsidence) with the
cement volume of 400 kg/m3.

Recipes for concretes with three different volumes of cement were applied (250, 330 and 400 kg/m 3), and the
adopted composition and consistency of fresh concrete are shown in the report marked as SBB-16-04.

Testing of fresh concrete consistency and the calculation of standard deviation is given in an annex to the report
marked as SBB-16-04.

The annex to this report shows granulometric composition of aggregate mixtures for used concrete mixtures.

Consistency was tested by applying the method of settling according to SRPS ISO 4109:1997.

Obtained results of determining standard deviations for the volumes of cement and water-cement factor are shown
in the next table.

Trial of concrete B3 MB 20/4 B1 MB 30/3 B2 MB 40/4

Obtained standard deviation for cement volumes 4.20 5.59 3.69
Obtained standard deviation for water-cement factor 0.02 0.02 0.01

The mean value of obtained standard deviation for cement volumes Sd = 4.49≤ 10 kg/m3
The mean value of obtained standard deviation for water-cement factor Sd = 0.02≤ 0.03.

Concrete is evaluated as homogeneous because both conditions for standard deviation were met according to
standard SRPS U.M1.028:1982.

10. THEORETIC CAPACITY OF THE CONCRETE PLANT

Projected theoretic capacity of the concrete plant is 120 m 3/h.

Time for phases of Loading 60s, without initial cycle (measuring starts during mixing)
one cycle Mixing 32s
Unloading 20s

Total cycle time 112s

Number of cycles per one hour n 32
Established capacity of the mixer V 3.0m3 (installed, vibrated-consolidated concrete)
Theoretical capacity of the concrete plant 96 m3/h
Q=nxV
WORK IN LOW AND HIGH TEMPERATURES

Concrete works at outside temperatures under +50C and above +300C are considered as concrete works under
special conditions and accordingly it is required to ensure special measures.

The plant is provided with an option to heat water for concrete making in conditions of low temperatures.

The plant is equipped with an installed aggregate heating system by inserting hot air through the aggregate, in
conditions of low temperatures.

The concrete making factory uses well water which is of equal temperature in both winter and summer conditions.

The aggregate in boxes is not protected against direct exposure to the sun. Aggregate baskets are equipped with
movable roofs which can protect aggregate in baskets.

With concrete works at high temperatures the initial workability should be identified according to previously
determined loss of workability (measured through consistency of fresh concrete) upon transportation and
installation.

The use of binding retardants and admixtures for concrete with prolonged consistency is required in case of concrete
works at high temperatures.

The concrete plant has a facility for fresh concrete recycling and a pool for recycled water, including a system for
using recycled water in concrete mixtures. Recycled water dosing via water dosing scales is adjustable by means of
software.

Depending on the ordered volume of concrete upon receiving the order, the number of mixtures is planned by means
of software. Delivery note for concrete contains enough details.
11. CONCLUSION AND OPINION

Pursuant to performed inspection of the production capacity of the concrete plant CRH (Serbia) LLC in Krnjača, the
obtained theoretical capacity of the concrete plant amounts to 96 m 3/h.

When it comes to concrete with admixture, it takes longer period of mixing so theoretically the capacity of the plant in
that case is reduced.

Pursuant to performed inspection of the concrete plant and the results obtained by testing, we hereby conclude that
the Concrete plant CRH (Serbia) LLC in Krnjača – Belgrade – East, of the manufacturer Liebherr (Germany):

- has conditions for storing basic materials (bunkers, baskets, silos, reservoirs and equipment for the
transport of stored materials to the device for their dosing);
- has functional devices for precise dosing of the components (aggregate, cement, water and admixtures for
concrete):
- its concrete mixer performs homogenizing of concrete mixtures and execution of the established number of
mixing cycles and the corresponding unloading of a mixer within the specified mixing time for the production
of B II category concrete pursuant to requirements specified in the Rulebook on technical standards for
concrete and reinforced concrete (1987);
- it has a production ability and functionality of a concrete factory and meets criteria referred to in standard
SRPS U.M1.050:1987.

12. VALIDITY PERIOD OF THE TEST REPORT

The report is valid until the change in the concrete plant operating mode or a valid overhaul. The concrete
manufacturer is required to regularly perform current control of the device and to perform control testing after a
period of one year, pursuant to item 5.2 and 5.3 of SRPS U.M1.050:1987 standard.

9. WORK IN LOW AND HIGH TEMPERATURES

0 0
Concrete works at outside temperatures under +5 C and above +30 C are considered as concrete works under special
conditions and accordingly it is required to ensure special measures.

The plant is provided with option to heat water for concrete making in conditions of low temperatures.

The plant is equipped with an installed aggregate heating system by inserting hot air through the aggregate, in conditions
of low temperatures.

The concrete making factory uses well water which is of equal temperature in both winter and summer conditions.

The aggregate in boxes is not protected against direct exposure to the sun. Aggregate baskets are equipped with
movable roofs which can protect aggregate in baskets.
With concrete works at high temperatures the initial workability should be identified according to previously determined
loss of workability (measured through consistency of fresh concrete) upon transportation and installation.

The use of binding retardants and admixtures for concrete with prolonged consistency is required in case of concrete
works at high temperatures.

The concrete plant has a facility for fresh concrete recycling and a pool for recycled water, including a system for using
recycled water in concrete mixtures. Recycled water dosing via dosing scales is adjustable by means of software.

Depending on the ordered volume of concrete upon receiving the order, the number of mixtures is planned by means of
software. Delivery note for concrete contains enough details.

10. CONCLUSION AND OPINION

Pursuant to control inspection and testing of the concrete plant and inspection of available documents, we hereby
conclude that the Concrete plant CRH (Serbia) LLC in Krnjača – Belgrade – East, of the manufacturer Liebherr (Germany):

- has conditions for storing basic materials (bunkers, baskets, silos, reservoirs and equipment for the transport of
stored materials to the device for their dispensing);
- has functional devices for accurate dispensing of the components (aggregate, cement, water and admixtures for
concrete):
- has a clean and functional concrete mixer and achieves the established number of mixing cycles and the
corresponding unloading of a mixer within specified mixing tie for the production of B category concrete or
pursuant to requirements specified in the Rulebook on technical standards for concrete and reinforced concrete
(1987);
- it has a production ability and functionality of a concrete factory and meets criteria referred to in items 4.1, 4.2
and 4.3 of SRPS U.M1.050:1987 standard, regarding the control testing.

11. VALIDITY PERIOD OF THE TEST REPORT

12.
The report is valid until the change in the concrete plant operating mode or an applicable overhaul. The concrete
manufacturer is required to regularly perform current control of the device and to perform control testing after a

In addition to laboratory personnel, the Manager of the concrete factories and the operators of
the concrete factories also took part in this inspection

Laboratory personnel fully and constructively cooperated in the inspection and provided the needed
information on operations of the concrete factory, materials in use, laboratory organization,
equipment, methods and procedures in control testing, recording of results sampling, care and
storing samples and on the creation of the testing reports.

Responsible person of the laboratory is Vesna Janković, B.Sc. in Civil Engineering, with 5 years of
professional experience in laboratory control of concrete components and concrete. She is familiar
with standard testing methods, Rulebook of technical standards of concrete and reinforced concrete,
procedures for establishing the elements of the management system with respect to quality
according to SRPS ISO 9001 standard and she also has general professional knowledge and skills of
performing entrusted tasks of quality control of concrete components and concrete.

Sampling and testing of aggregates, cement and concrete is performed by a trained laboratory
technician with participation and supervision of a professional person in charge of the laboratory.
The operators from the concrete factory may help in the operations of the laboratory, if necessary.

Premises of both Laboratories for quality control are as follows:

- central room for testing stone aggregate, cement and hardened concrete
- premises for testing fresh concrete, production and curing of concrete samples;
- premises for storing concrete samples; and
- an office for the responsible person of the laboratory, with cupboards for storing the
documentation.
Equipment in both Quality Control Laboratories includes necessary tools, moulds, sieves, brass
dishes, devices (vibro table, curing plant, vibrating device), equipment for measurement (hydraulic
press, standardized digital scales, air entrainment meter, vernier scale callipers) and satisfies the
requirements according to the standard SRPS U.M1.052 (1987) for performing the current control.

In terms of heavy equipment, the laboratory in the concrete factory in Krnjača possesses a hydraulic
press for testing construction material, manufacturer FORM-TEST, with measuring range up to 3,000
kN, which is properly maintained and calibrated, for which the Laboratory keeps adequate records
and stores certificates of calibration.

In terms of heavy equipment, laboratory in the concrete factory in Dobanovci possesses a hydraulic

temperature and a heater for possible additional heating of water in the event of lower
temperatures.

The laboratory possesses valid adequate SRPS standards for the testing methods it applies in its
operation.

Concrete Factory CRH (Serbia) LLC Popovac in Belgrade, Kanjiža, manufactures concrete in
accordance with the standard SRPS U.M1.051 (1987). (1987). For concrete production it uses
materials (aggregate, cement, concrete additives) which are certified (attested), it carries out
inspection of material quality, performs control testing and the sampling of fresh concrete and it also
performs control testing of hardened concrete, in its own Laboratory for quality control. The testing
of special properties of concrete, if necessary, is performed by accredited testing laboratories.

Concrete factory CRH (Serbia) LLC Popovac in Belgrade, Dobanovci, produces concrete in
accordance with requirements of the standard SRPS U.M1.051 (1987). For concrete production it
uses materials (aggregate, cement, concrete additives) which are certified (attested), it carries out
inspection of material quality, performs control testing and the sampling of fresh concrete and it also
performs control testing of hardened concrete, in its own Laboratory for quality control. The testing
of special properties of concrete, if necessary, is performed by accredited testing laboratories.

After reviewing of the documents kept by the Laboratory for quality control, it was concluded that
the concrete manufacturer has valid certificates for component materials used in concrete
production and that it keeps them orderly.

Control testing of aggregates is carried out once a week pursuant to requirements of applicable
regulations while visual inspection is carried for each delivery.

By inspecting the boxes of certain aggregate fractions, it was concluded that there was no mixing of
fractions.

The concrete factories are currently using only one type of cement, CEM II/A-L 42.5R, manufactured
by CRH (Serbia), and they have the capacities to store and use three types of cement. The laboratory
has permanent access to control testing of cement, which is regularly performed at Concrete factory
CRH (Serbia) LLC Popovac.

Control concrete samples are taken every day during concrete production. The number of samples
depends on the quantity of concrete, one or more cubes are sampled from each type of concrete for
every 50m3 of concrete.

The laboratory keeps the book of concrete records, which contains all required data about samples;
date of manufacturing of concrete; concrete type and strength class, as well as all other required
data.

The laboratory keeps a daily journal where it keeps a record of the daily operation of the
laboratory, measurements and test results. When testing concrete strength under pressure, the
force required to reach the breaking point of concrete will be recorded in kN and will be calculated in
relation to strength under pressure, expressed at MPa.

An overview of documentation and issued reports using the random sample method established that
there is consistency in marking samples, recorded test results and results and data on concrete
displayed in test reports.

For the purpose of certification for the testing method the Laboratory applies during tests of
strength under pressure, this testing was supervised under the auspices of professional supervision.
The personnel of the laboratory is familiar with the research method and properly performs the
testing, in accordance with the standard method.
The laboratory processes received control testing results, and keeps adequate records of tests
performed.
