Program Description
The Research Care and Training Program (RCTP) is collaboration between the Kenya Medical
Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and University of
Washington (UW). RCTP leads the Family AIDS Care and Education Services (FACES) program,
a comprehensive HIV prevention and Treatment.

We have the following vacancies in Community Health Initiative (CHI) project

1. POSITION: HTS COUNSELLORS (40) Vacancy No. FN-009-01-2018

Reports to: HTS Lead


Duty Station: Kisumu/Muhoroni
Duration: 6 Months

Duties and Responsibilities

 Obtain informed consent, assent or parental/guardian permission from clients.


 Conduct HIV tests, and/or provide pre- and post-test counselling, and HIV results to the
participants.
 Track and test all clients who were not tested during CHCs.
 Maintain confidentiality of the patient’s information within the community health
campaigns.
 Link all newly identified HIV positive patients to care and treatment services.
 Writing and submitting daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reports to the supervisors.
 Complete any other duties assigned or delegated by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications

 Certificate in Psychological counseling, Community Health, Social Sciences or related


course.
 Must have a mean grade of at least D (+) plus and above in KCSE
 Must have HTC certificate certified by NASCOP
 Must have at least one year experience in HIV testing and counseling

Required Experience

 Must have at least one year experience in HIV testing and counseling

Other Requirements

 Must be able to meet the daily set targets.


 Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.
 A positive attitude to work
 Ability to work in slums and rural set ups
 Currently reside in or be willing to relocate to Kisumu County
 Available Immediately
 Demonstrate ability to prioritize tasks and work well under pressure
 Willingness and ability to work odd hours, late hours or in shifts

2. POSITION: PHARMACEUTICAL TECHNOLOGIST (2) Vacancy No FN-010-01-2018

Reports to: CHC Coordinator /Pharmacist i/c


Duty Station: Kisumu/Muhoroni
Duration: 5 Months

Duties and Responsibilities

 Reporting to the CHC Coordinator /Pharmacist i/c


 Receive written prescription or refill requests and verify that information is
complete and accurate by ensuring proper dispensing practice is adhered to
 Ensure proper commodity and inventory management is done;
 Conduct medication use counselling and ensure proper drug adherence to all clients
served
Ensure that there is an efficient supply of essential commodities and rational use of medicines and
other ART commodities

Required Qualifications

 Must have a mean grade of C plain and above in K.C.S.E


 Must have a Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from Kenya Medical Training
College or any other recognized institution
 Be enrolled and licensed by the Pharmacy & Poisons Board; PPB

Required Experience

 Experience of working within the government system will be added advantage


Other Requirements

 Training on good commodity management is key


 At least 1 year experience preferably within a busy health facility care set up.
 At least experience in HIV services care and treatment, PMTCT, TB/HIV,
PITC;
 Good leadership skills, inter-personal relationship and communication skills
 Excellent computer skills and must be conversant with computer applications
 The position requires a self-motivated flexible individual who can work
independently to ensure good and safe pharmaceutical services.

3. POSITION: CLINICIANS (6) Vacancy No FN-011-01-2018


Reports to: CHC Coordinator
Duty Station: Kisumu/Muhoroni
Duration: 5 Months

Duties and Responsibilities

 Provide care and prescribe treatment for patients during CHCs.


 Conduct Physical exams
 Order appropriate investigations and prescribe the drugs
 Refer clients accordingly
 Training and mentoring of other clinical staff.
 Offer HIV counseling, care and support to the patients at the CHCsl.
 Maintain patients ‘confidentiality.
 Maintain good relationships with the management team, patients, and entire community at
large.
 Attend facility meetings, CMEs and MDTs.
 Perform any other duty as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Required Qualifications

 Must have a mean grade of C plain and above in K.C.S.E.


 MUST have at least a Diploma in Clinical Medicine from Kenya Medical Training College
or any other recognized institution with a valid practicing license
 Experience in HIV clinical care including anti-retroviral.
 Must be willing to work in any facility within the County.

Required Experience

 The candidates should be trained in ART Adherence counseling and have skills/ knowledge
in counseling in the context of HIV/AIDS.

4. POSITION: LABORATORY TECHNICIANS (5) Vacancy No FN-012-01-2018


Reports to: CHC Coordinator
Duty Station: Kisumu/Muhoroni
Duration: 5 Months
Duties and Responsibilities
 Developing laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS).
 Sample collection, processing and analysis for all eligible clients
 Compilation and reporting of laboratory data
 Work closely with the SCMLT and the MOH lab in- charge counterpart
 Laboratory networking and transportation of samples and results
 Ensure proper commodity and inventory management is done
 Any other duty as assigned by the supervisors

Required Qualifications

 Must have a mean grade of C plain and above in K.C.S.E


 Must have at least a Diploma in medical Laboratory science from Kenya Medical Training
College or any other recognized institution with a valid practicing license
 Must be registered with KMLTTB

Required Experience

 At least 2 years’ experience preferably within a busy HIV care program

Other Requirements

 Additional training in QA/QC and GCLP will be an added advantage


 The position requires a self-motivated, flexible individual who can work independently to
improve lab operations. The ideal candidate will be detailed oriented, organized, proactive
and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
