DESCRIPTION

The COM-1452 is a rugged PC/104-Plus 5-Port Network Interface Card (NIC) that enables a host CPU module
to perform bridging operations to manage up to five different Local Area Networks (LANs) using the Ethernet
protocol. The module features five (5) Fast Ethernet (10/100) ports managed by Intel 82551 controllers that
provide rapid data transfers by offloading TCP, UDP and IP checksums from the main processor. The off-load
TCP segmentation also support such operations as Large Send.

A hardware bypass between Ethernet ports 1 and 2 of the board supports a crossover connection between two
Local Area Networks (LANs). This crossover functionality can be activated via software, automatically
activated when the module is powered off, or when a Watchdog signal is received from the host CPU module.

An integrated PCI-to-PCI Bridge (Texas Instruments PCI2060) allows the COM-1452 to support transactions
to occur between a master on one PCI bus and a target on another by creating hierarchical PCI buses. This
bridge makes it possible for the primary and secondary bus clocks to be extended temperatures (-40 to +85°C),
high humidity, vibration and mechanical shock.
