Moses is one of the most famous characters in the Bible. He is the one who led the Israelites
out of their slavery in Egypt. One of the greatest miracles happened during that time: the parting
of the Red Sea. However, things did not go as perfect as it may seem. Upon reaching the edge of
the Sea, some of the Israelites were filled with fear and doubts, most of them even thinking of
returning back to Egypt. The situation seemed to be unescapable, and otherwise seemed to be
ending horrendously. But God, being the compassionate and loving God, reminded them in Exodus
14:14 that He will fight for them and all they had to do was be still. Then the Red Sea parted,
paving the way for the Israelites to pass thru.

The Count of Monte Cristo is a film adaptation of the book of the same name, directed by
Kevin Reynolds. It depicts the story of Edmond Dantès, a French sailor, who was put into
imprisonment because of the betrayal of his envious peers. He vowed to take revenge upon those
who oppressed him. Eventually, he is able to escape the prison and rebrand himself as the count
of Monte Cristo, living the most luxurious life.

In the earlier part of the movie, Edmond is portrayed to be a person of faith. Whilst being
pained and punished for his arrest, he is seen to be declaring his steadfast faith in God, saying that
He will intervene for him because He is everywhere. His oppressor mocks this thought, and
challenges his faith.

Years if imprisonment for a mere accusation caused a disintegration of his faith. He stopped
believing that God would eventually save him from the wrecks. Until he met, Abbé Faria, another
prisoner in the cell. Over the years, the old Abbé taught him many things, and even showed him
the whereabouts of a massive amount of treasure he found while digging in the cell. Most
importantly, he kept reminding him of God. He often talked about Him, and encouraged Edmond
to rekindle his faith.

The Lord will always fight for His people. The arrival of Abbé in the life of Edmond Faria,
I believe, is God’s appointment. He must have been an “angel” of the Lord. In times of despair,
God uses other people to tap us on the shoulder and get us back into the game. Up to his last breath,
the Abbé was set out to aid in Edmond’s breakout, as his death signified the beginning of a new
life for the latter. Truly, he was someone God-sent. As in our everyday lives, God will give use
even the most unexpected people to help us.

Vengeance is always the Lord’s. As in the time of Moses, God revealed his plan to Edmond
in the most abrupt way. It took him some time, but he still was able to reap out of his suffering.
Even if he kept running away from God, He still continued to pursue him. This is the love of God
for his children, that no matter how far we go on hiding from Him, He will still remain faithful and
steadfast. The Lord will keep on fighting for us, and all we have to do is be still.

Overall, I would highly recommend my peers to watch this film. Aside from it’s very
eclectic plot, it also had good quality screenplay. It is a good reminder that everything falls under
God’s plan, and that He will be the one to take vengeance for us.
