1.0 INTRODUCTION 3
This method statement covers the underground cable laying activities for main
routes .These cables will be laid on cable trenches.
Cable schedule, drumming schedule, electrical power layout, lighting layout and
lighting wiring diagram.
1.3 Equipment
- Forklift.
- Crane.
- Cable Rollers.
- Cable Jacks.
1.4 Safety
All operations involved in the execution of works will be done in accordance with the
Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.
The safety officers, Engineers and Foremen will be responsible for ensuring the
safe implementation of this work.
METHOD STATEMENT

The preparation work which would be ensured before work commencement is such
as but not limited to be the follows.
2.2 Prior to excavation, investigation will be made with all parties concerned
to identify any underground temporary or permanent services along the
cable route.
2.4 Any excavated or handed over open trenches will be secured by means of
caution tapes or hard barriers during and after excavation work.
2.5 Installation shall be planned in such a way that, the trenches are
excavated and backfilled within the shortest span of time.
2.9 Bedding of clean sand will be placed in trench before starting in cable
laying.
2.13 Check site condition for starting laying activities and confirm that the
location of cable drum doesn’t obstruct to other works.
2.14 Ensure that the proper tools for opening the drum, cutting the cable are
available.
2.15 Test the cable on the drum using insulation tester with a proper range.
2.16 Checking of the actual cable length as per site measurement and
according to the actual cable length of cable route comparing to the length
indicated in cable schedule.
2.17 Recheck the drumming status based on the actual site measurement with
adjusting the necessary redruming.
2.18 Check that the appropriate cable markers and fixation material are
available and approved.
2.19 Ensure the height of working elevation and provide the necessary safety
equipment for cable pulling crew (life line, safety harness, life jackets
.etc).
3 METHOD OF WORK
3.1 Follow the nodal diagram layout during laying to ensure that each type of
cable is laid in the proper section.
3.2 Place and secure cable rollers at proper intervals, max. 3 mt.
3.3 Unroll cable with the drums located on truck or on jacks that allow an easy
rotation and by pulling the cable in such a way that it will leave the drum
according to supplier instructions.
METHOD STATEMENT

3.5 Ensure that the cables are not twisted while laying.
3.6 Cut the cables leaving a suitable margin for termination, avoiding useless
scrap.
3.7 After Cable cutting, seal both cable ends properly and the cable left on the
drum by the proper insulation tape.
3.8 Secure and protect cables in trenches and cable ends to avoid cable
damage.
3.9 Identify all the cables using the approved cable markers and fixation
material.
3.10 Remove remaining cable drums from site to storage area immediatly after
completed coiling.
3.11 A final check will be done for the completion of installation of the cables
before starting with backfilling.
3.12 In paved areas a fine sand filling shall be used between cable layers and
up to the approved bottom level of paving as per installation typical
details. Plate compactors shall be used for sand compaction.( Further
details shall be confirmed with CLINET construction & Q.C ).
3.13 In unpaved areas fine sand filling shall be used between cable layers and
above the top layer of cables as per installation typical details, excavation
product from the trenchs will be used in backfilling the remaining of the
trench.ensuring that , all debris are taken out of this backfilling material.
Plate compactors shall be used for sand compaction.
4.1 The job safety analysis (JSA) is a step by step review of a specific job
with the aim to identify the potential hazards associated with each
step of the job and then eliminate, reduce or control the hazards
before the start of the work.
4.2 The JSA will be conducted to ensure that work does not start without
testing the risk assessment through evaluation by the supervisors and
employees who will be involved in the work, at the workface and
immediately prior to commencing work.
4.3 All PPE's shall be used like helmet, goggles, safety footwear, gloves
and safety harness if required.
4.4 All manpower, who are involved in the installation activities shall be
informed of the hazards and risk factors through tool box meetings
prior starting any activity.
4.8.2 Identify for each step the potential hazard and potential
accident causes.
4.8.4 Supervisor reviews all of the above with workers who are
expected to contribute their own suggestions for ensuring that
work can be conducted safely.
