Abdul Hadi working hard, part II (revisit)

Learning priority: school readiness

Abdul Hadi, I was very pleased to make some further school work with you. You were
having good time with your mates outside when I pulled you inside to do some work in a
quiet environment. Jawaher, Siham and Mohammed wanted to join you and I gave them
some colouring work too, on the condition of staying quiet so that we could think and learn
together. (In fact two weeks later I caught same two girls insisting on silence while they
were doing colouring work, telling their peers off for making too much ruckus around the
class!)

The work sheet that we chose was a bit different, I carefully explained and you listened
what needed to be done. I drew the columns for Abdul Hadi while he was cutting with his
scissors the symbols and images. We then thought about the words, and the starting
letters. First one was Mmm-ushroom; Abdul Hadi what sound does mushroom start with?
And I would repeat the sound and ask for Abdul Hadi to recognise the letter and glue the
symbol on the right column. After the first and second line were done it was getting easier
to make the connection between the right sounds, as Abdul Hadi could listen to the words
and their similarities. ‘S’ for sock, sailor, scissors. ‘F’ for fish, fork and feather etc.

One by one we filled up all the columns. Abdul Hadi I know you had to think hard as the
assignment was difficult for you. Once again, you did really well, ka pai!

(Pictures above from left to right, Adbul Hadi’s work sheet, consisting of letters and
matching symbols; Abdul Hadi thinking hard and placing the cut symbols on the right
columns; Abdul Hadi looking happy with the finished results.
