Reflection 3

1. In reading and helping other people revise their essays I learned to take a step back and

read the paragraphs to make sure they tie together and make sense. It was interesting to

see how one sentence alone made sense but together it didn’t seem to go together as a

paragraph.

2. Discussing other people’s work helps me think about my own in that it helps me

remember to double check I have done all of the things I am grading the other person on.

3. The most challenging part hands down was getting in the habit of making meaningful

comments and ignoring the spelling/grammar errors they might’ve made.

4. The most helpful part of the workshop was seeing the different approaches people took to

different topics they chose to discuss on their essay.

5. Considering what I learned and what my peers noted on my essay I would say the

strongest point of my essay is my thesis. I think I make my point very clear and show my

stance on the essay question.

6. Based on my peer reviews as well as the essay I reviewed I would say what needs most

work on my essay are my transitions and my conclusion. My ideas in the body of my

paragraph are clear but the transitions into them are a little bumpy and don’t flow

together. As for my conclusion, I had a hard time coming up with one and as a result I

didn't write one so that is definitely something I need to put more time into.
7. The area I would most focus on based on the rubric is my paragraph focus. I had a hard

time coming up with sentences that would smoothly show my transition from paragraph

to paragraph so that is the main thing I would focus on.

8. Create a revision plan:

a. Introduction: In line 9 of my introduction I begin to state my thesis but the last

part of that sentence is a bit confusing. I will remember to re-word that phrase in

order for it to make more sense to the reader.

b. Body paragraphs: Although my topic in my body paragraphs is very clear, my

transitions aren’t. I have to go back into my body paragraphs and make sure my

transition into this new topic is clear but still smooth.

c. Body paragraphs: All my points in this essay are backed up by evidence but I dont

see a clear vision as to why each point is where it is. Once the rest of my essay is

completed I plan to go back and take a deeper look at the order to make sure it

makes sense to the reader why I chose to have it a certain way.

d. Conclusion: I have never been good at concluding my essays and I always end up

just stating my topics all over again. This is why I had a hard time coming up with

a conclusion and failed to do so. I plan to take my time to write a conclusion that I

feel truly sums up my essay without just restating the same things continuously.
