Text 16
A hunter went out hunting in Africa. He came back in the evening, and was near his camp when a big lion
came out from behind some bushes. It was very near. The hunter shot at it, but missed. A second later, the lion
jumped, but it went too far. It jumped right over the hunter’s head, and the hunter quickly ran to his camp. The
next morning the hunter went out to practice shooting, so that he would not miss the next time. He heard a
strange noise near the camp, and went to see what it was. It was the big lion. It was practising short jumps.

Composition 24
The English School,
Rue Lafayette,
Paris.
14th December, 1953.

Dear Father,
I think you will be surprised to get a letter from me in English. Of course I am doing it because I want to
get some practice for the examination, which is getting very near now. I thought also that you would perhaps like
to see how well, or how badly, I can write in a foreign language.

As I told you in my last letter the school is closing for the holidays on 18th December, and I hope to catch
a train to Dijon on the next day. I expect to get to Dijon about two o’clock in the afternoon of Thursday. I hope
that you or Pierre will be able to meet me at the station.

I have enjoyed myself very much at school this term, and I am sorry that next term will be my last in this
school. I have read quite a lot of library books, eight French ones and five English ones. Last night we were
allowed to go to the cinema, because the film, “Treasure Island”, was made from one of the books we are reading
for the examination. It was very interesting to see the things we had read about so often really happening in front
of our eyes.

I must not write any more now, as I have all my packing to do. In any case I shall be seeing you all quite
soon now and shall be able to tell you all I have been doing.

Please give my love to all the family, especially Mother.

Yours affectionately,
Henri.
