Holy Cold Water!

They were freezin’ for a reason and it paid off! The 4th Annual
Rockaway Polar Plunge for Special Olympics New York was anoth-
er big success.
About 300 people showed up at Riis Park on a chilly Saturday,
March 24 to take the plunge. As we go to press, the event website
says more than $31,000 was raised, and that number keeps rising.
The top fundraiser of the day? None other than Father Jim Cun-
ningham of St. Francis de Sales, who raised more than $2,500.
The top fundraising team was the CT Warriors, with nearly $5,700
raised, followed by Emily’s Favorites, raising more than $5,350 in
honor of the late Emily Hutton. Way to go to the brave participants
and to Special Olympics New York for hosting another successful
event. The money raised will help Special Olympics athletes par-
ticipate in some of the program’s sports, free of charge.
