Preventive maintenance activity

Preventive maintenance
The preventive maintenance is used to periodically test the items of equipment that do not
directly trigger any alarm at the OMC. However, the execution of preventive maintenance
procedures can trigger alarms at the OMC.
These procedures must be performed according to the following schedules.
It is possible to group some of the procedures, which reduces the intervention time. The
intervention time indicated corresponds to the intervention time for each item of
equipment.
Note: In certain environments, these procedures may be required more frequently:
• Environmental conditions and service door opening-closing frequency may impact
the service door gasket ageing.
• Systems located in high seismic areas may require anchor bolts and mounting
hardware to be tightened periodically especially for field installed items.
• Connectors may require periodic cleaning in dirty and high humidity areas.

Corrective maintenance
Corrective maintenance activity
The network maintenance is based on the supervision of the network, by using the OAM
graphical interface. For more information, see Alcatel-Lucent 9353 Wireless Management
System - User Guide, NN-20500-032.
It is also based on the identification and replacement of faulty items of equipment, using
the alarms.
The process consists of two steps:
1. Locating and identifying the faulty RRH 2X60W through alarms at the OMC. See
"Fault management" chapter in Alcatel-Lucent 9353 Wireless Management System -
User Guide, NN-20500-032.
2. Replacing the faulty RRH 2X60W following the replacement procedure detailed in
this publication.

RRH 2X60W replacement

In the case of the RRH 2X60W, no separate module replacement exists: the whole RRH
2X60W is to be replaced. The procedure is detailed in “Replacing an RRH 2X60W”
(p. 9-2).
The following table indicates the orderable item (code) for each module or item to be

RRH 2X60W solution

RRH 2X60W overview
The RRH 2X60W is a solution for a remote RF transceiver that can be located far away
(500 m to 20 km) from a main Node B and interface with this main Node B through an
optical fiber.
The RRH 2X60W provides an external optical interface to be connected to the optical
module of the main Node B, or to another RRH 2X60W in a daisy-chain configuration.
It also provides an external radio interface according to UMTS standards.
The following figure shows the connections between RRHs and a d2U Node B in star
configuration.
For details concerning the configurations of implementation, refer to chapter 5 in the
document: Alcatel-Lucent Remote Radio Head 2X60W - 850, 2100 MHz - Technical
Description, NN-20500-307.

European regulatory requirement compliance

Radio and Telecom Terminal Equipment
The RRH falls under the requirements of the Radio and Telecom Terminal Equipment
(R&TTE) European directive 1999/5/EC.
The R&TTE directive covers requirements in the following areas:
• Protection of the Health and Safety of users and all other persons, including objectives
with respect to safety requirements contained in the Low Voltage Directive
(73/23/EEC)
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) protection requirements contained in Directive
89/336/EEC.
This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy. If not
installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, it can interfere with
radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interferences do not occur
in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio
or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on.
The user is encouraged to correct any interference problems. EMC requirements have
been selected to ensure an adequate level of compatibility for apparatus in residential,
commercial, and light industrial environments. Compatibility levels, however, do not
cover extreme cases that can occur in any location, but that have a low probability of
occurrence. In particular, they may not cover cases where a source of interference that
is producing repeated transient or continuous phenomena is permanently present. This
could include, for example, a radar or broadcast site in the near vicinity. In these
cases, it may be necessary to limit the source of interference, and/or apply special
protection to the interfered part.
Note: For operation or maintenance inside Alcatel-Lucent systems, the operator must
always wear the antistatic wrist strap to maintain the integrity of the product.
• Effective use of the Radio spectrum allocated to terrestrial/space radio communication
and orbital resources to avoid interference. The routes and standards used to
demonstrate compliance with these requirements are outlined in the following
paragraphs:
– Node B EMC
Compliance with essential EMC requirements was demonstrated using E301489-1
& -23.
– Node B radio compliance
Compliance with the requirements of effective use of the radio spectrum was
demonstrated using E301908-1 & -3.
– Node B safety
PRELIMINARY

Compliance with essential safety requirements was demonstrated using EN60950.

– Node B health protection
Compliance with essential health requirements was demonstrated using E50385.

European Union Environmental Directives (EUED)
The RRH is manufactured according to the following two European Union
Environmental Directives:
• Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), 2002/95/EC
The RoHS directive restricts the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent
chromium, poly-brominated biphenyls (PBB) and poly-brominated diphenyl ethers
(PBDE) in electrical and electronic products. This directive applies to all electrical
and electronic products placed on the European Union (EU) and European Economic
Area (EEA) markets after July 1, 2006, with certain exemptions, including an
exemption for lead solder in network infrastructure equipment.
• Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), 2002/96/EC
The WEEE directive mandates the necessary treatment of such equipment when it
enters end-of-life. It specifically identifies requirements for recycling, reuse, and
disposal.
