Thou art the Shepherd of the sheep, the Prince of the Apostles, unto thee were given

the keys of the kingdom of heaven.

V. Thou art Peter;

R. And upon this rock I will build my Church.

Let us pray.

Raise us up, we beseech Thee, O Lord, by the apostolic assistance of blessed Peter,
Thine Apostle; so that the weaker we are, the more mightily we may be helped by the
power of his intercession; and that being perpetually defended by the same holy
apostle, we may neither yield to any iniquity, nor be overcome by any adversity.
Through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

(Indulgence: 500 days)

Lord, have mercy.

Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy. Christ hear us.
Christ, graciously hear us.
God the Father of heaven,
Have mercy on us.
God the Son, Redeemer of the world,
Have mercy on us.
God the Holy Ghost,
Have mercy on us.
Holy Trinity, one God,
Have mercy on us.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

Pray for us.*
Queen conceived without original sin,*
Queen of Apostles,*
Saint Peter,*
Prince of the Apostles,*
St. Peter, to whom were given the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven,*
St. Peter, so ardent for the glory of Christ,*
St Peter, whose heart was pierced with one look from Jesus,*
St. Peter, who ceased not to grieve for having denied the Son of God,*
St. Peter, whose cheeks were furrowed by a stream of tears which flowed to the end of
thy life,*
St. Peter, who cried out: Lord, thou knowest that I love Thee!*
St. Peter, bound in chains for Christ,*
St. Peter, delivered from prison by an angel,*
St. Peter, who rejoiced to suffer for Christ,*
St. Peter, whose very shadow healed the sick,*
St. Peter, whose voice even the dead obeyed,*
St. Peter, that we may have a constant and mutual charity among ourselves,*
That we may taste and see more and more, how sweet is the Lord,*
That we may be prudent, and watch in prayer,*
That we may die the death of the just,*

V. Let the mercies of the Lord give glory to him,

R. And His wonderful works to the children of men.

Let us pray:

O glorious Apostle, who received the power of loosing and binding, pray for us, that,
being free from all sin, we may live and die in the grace of God. Obtain then for us a
perfect faith, firm hope, and ardent charity, that as we draw nearer to the close of life,
we may daily grow in the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ. Guide us, O blessed
Apostle, through all the dangers of this exile, till fear and grief be over. O humble
martyr of Christ! you who now behold Him, not as on Thabor, but in the full splendor
of His glory, pray for us now and at the hour of death. O then come, blessed Apostle,
and take us to Jesus, that we too may love eternally. Amen.

Prayer for the Church

O Jesus, living cornerstone and Head of Thy Church, which Thou hast redeemed,
purchased, and cleansed with Thy holy Blood, preserve her, Thy spouse, from
sacrilege, heresy, and schism; unite all her members in faith, hope, and charity; let the
daily Sacrifice of the altar, and prayer, never cease, but be for ever presented to Thy
heavenly Father to obtain us grace and blessing, pardon and salvation. Amen.

The Responsory of St. Peter

Seek ye a patron to defend

Your cause?--then, one and all,
Without delay upon the Prince
Of the Apostles call.

Blest holder of the heavenly keys,

Thy prayers we all implore;
Unlock to us the sacred bars
Of heaven's eternal door.

By penitential tears thou didst

The path of life regain;
Teach us with thee to weep our sins,
And wash away their stain.
Blest holder of the heavenly keys,
Thy prayers we all implore;
Unlock to us the sacred bars
Of heaven's eternal door.

The angel touch'd thee, and forthwith

Thy chains from off thee fell;
O, loose us from the subtle coils
That bind us fast to hell.

Blest holder of the heavenly keys,

Thy prayers we all implore;
Unlock to us the sacred bars
Of heaven's eternal door.

Firm rock whereon the Church is based,

Pillar that cannot bend,
With strength endue us; and the faith
From heresy defend.

Blest holder of the heavenly keys,

Thy prayers we all implore;
Unlock to us the sacred bars
Of heaven's eternal door.

Save Rome, which from the days of old

Thy blood hath sanctified;
And help the nations of the earth
That in thy help confide.

Blest holder of the heavenly keys,

Thy prayers we all implore;
Unlock to us the sacred bars
Of heaven's eternal door.
O, worshipp'd by all Christendom,
Her realms in peace maintain;
Let no contagion sap her strength,
No discord rend in twain.

Blest holder of the heavenly keys,

Thy prayers we all implore;
Unlock to us the sacred bars
Of heaven's eternal door.

The weapons which our ancient foe

Against us doth prepare,
Crush thou; nor suffer us to fall
Into his deadly snare.

Blest holder of the heavenly keys,

Thy prayers we all implore;
Unlock to us the sacred bars
Of heaven's eternal door.

Guard us through life; and in that hour

"When our last fight draws nigh,
O'er death, o'er hell, o'er Satan's power,
Gain us the victory.

Blest holder of the heavenly keys,

Thy prayers we all implore;
Unlock to us the sacred bars
Of heaven's eternal door.

All glory to the Father be;

Praise to the Son Who rose;
Praise to the Spirit Paraclete;
While age on ages flows.
Blest holder of the heavenly keys,
Thy prayers we all implore;
Unlock to us the sacred bars
Of heaven's eternal door.
