Me : Assalamualaikum and good morning! Thank you for spending your time with
me. I would like to ask you some questions about your lesson. This interview
will help me with my research. So the first question is what do you think of your
pupils’ response during the lesson?
Madam Aini : Erm, pupils’ response was a bit dull which shows that maybe they don’t
understand the language itself. Not really the context of the lesson. Topic wise
yes they understood but language was a bit slow.
Its always regarding students response, we are expecting them to have a pitive response or
very active response but normally their respond very passively you know like one word punya
respond. Yes, no. for example, “ give me your opinion?” And then you have drop dead silence
lah. No response.
Normally if the first lesson of the week the respond is so ngative then the next day I would do
less talking, more to hands on activities. Normally more to games lah, more to games. They
like quizzes you know, quizzes erm, exploring around the classroom, something macam
explore race a bit. Put the clues here and there so they need to move around, that kind of
lesson they would be so interested and give so positively response.
Games in language lesson? I’ve been using games since I first posting in 2008 so yes
positively, sure, use games jangan tak use.
Yes, most definitely but its more to encourage them actually. They r kids, if u talk so much in
calss they will feel so bored to death but start your class with a game. Say like “lets play a
game, what do you think about…” you know. Don’t start the lesson with “open your textbook”.
Always start with “let me show u smething” for me laa. When u show them video, “lets see this
situation”. For year 6 laa, I always use role play situation like “imagine if u r a detective and
you have a case of dead Farhan.” So sebenarnya nak create satu social problem kan. Biar
dorang fikir why Farhan actually died. Punca masalah tu. They love talking to it.
Terutamanya if it includes them.
In one week I would say for or five times. Often laa. But the problem is when grammar. They
cant use the games of grammar to create sentence.
Even for year 6 pun, they cant use grammar or relate grammar in writing ke, use grammar in
speaking. Yes they can play the games but not on certain lesson laa. Because they have this
tendency of main. Nanti main je, tak fikir belajar.
Haha. Yeah. So the last questions. What do u think the main problem
Owh. That wud be themselves. Rational speking, how do u learn eng? Thru environment kan?
That rite, they don want to try to speak in eng, its not they like eng or not, its they don’t even
wanna try . even tryng 1 word pun sometimes like shield shut. Year 5 pun like that. The only
clas that positive wanna learn eng r actually year 3 n year 4. I thnk bcoz kita dah slalu give
positive reinforcement from y1. Y5 n y6 ni biasa x kena tegur . .
Yes their own attitude towards learning eng laa. Its totally, totally what they call it. Its not the
language is alien laa. They knw the language but they rfuse to use it. They don’t wanna even
to try it.
