Dear Principal:

I am interested in the opening for an elementary school teacher at your school this upcoming school
year. The past four years working for Eagle County School District as a cognitive needs
paraprofessional at Red Hill Elementary and Gypsum Creek Middle, has changed the direction of
my life and deepened my resolve to be an educator of all students. I am currently in the final year
of my education at Colorado Mountain College, obtaining my degree in elementary education and
a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Certificate, with an anticipated graduation date of May 4,
2018. I’m certain my intrinsic desire to educate young minds will keep me in Eagle County School
District for years to come.

Throughout this past year I have been in a rigorous and intensive student teaching program, co-
teaching in a fifth-grade classroom at Red Hill Elementary. The co-teaching model requires
student teachers to be involved in every aspect of teaching, planning, classroom management, and
professional development throughout the whole school year. One of my personal goals for this
year was to create effective writing rubrics which could be used both as an editing tool for students,
and for more efficient and consistent grading for teachers. I was honored that my grade-level team
so appreciated my efforts in creating rubrics which benefit students and teachers alike, that they
chose to adopt my rubrics as the standard for the fifth grade at Red Hill. The results of my work
with rubrics will be the focus of my action research project, culminating my student teaching year.
My rubric designs will bring the clarity of expectations to dual-language learners and consistency
of grading to the grade-level team at your school.

Your school has earned a positive reputation for celebrating diversity and achieving academic
excellence with the outstanding staff and the wonderful supportive culture of inclusivity. It would
be an honor to teach your students and serve a district which maintains high educational standards,
provides students with opportunities for personal growth, and instills a sense of self-worth among
all students. During my internship at Red Hill this year, I co-chaired the Communications and
Community Outreach Committee, increasing our communication through social media and
collaborating in developing a new Family STEAM Night at our school. During this family
outreach evening we coordinated with Eagle Valley High, bringing in some of their teachers and
advanced level students to demonstrate creations such as a hovercraft and gyroscope students could
ride on. I believe my experience and passion for community engagement make me an ideal
candidate for a teaching position at your school.

It is my goal to combine my range of experience with my ability to be a compassionate,

enthusiastic, intelligent teacher who will make a positive contribution to your school district and
larger community. I welcome an interview and hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience.
