We are here to optimize Your PM Drying section EV Group - The Runnability Team PRESS SECTION OPTIMIZATION Problem of unsupported draw from press to dryer: Moving surfaces of felts, fabrics, rol and the web create significant air flows and pressure differences. This creates sheet fluttering and defects in the unsupported draw from the press tothe drying section. The sheet fluttering causes breaks between press and dryer section and limits the PM speed. Unsupported transfer also complicates tall threading. Often the runnability problems are attempted to control with the increased draw but this worsens the paper strength properties and causes sheet breaks, ‘SOLUTION: Elimination ofthe fluttering problem typically requires both ‘machine geometry upgrade to shorten the open draw and Vp Web Stabilizers to create vacuum between the web stabilizer and the drying fabric. ADVANTAGES: > Press - dryer geometry upgrade shortens the open draw } Elimination of fluttering in the open draw } No need to control runnability with higher draw > Improve tail threading from the press Problem at free standing press: ‘At free standing press, the press felt blows and together with ‘paper roll they create overpressure in the nip between the web and the press Felt. the permeability ofthe press felt is high, this typically creates, ‘more severe blowing problem. This easily creates air bubbles. ‘below the sheet before the press nip, when air carried by the feltis purging. l SOLUTION: Optimization ofthe entire free standing press area runnabilty requires comprehensive study from the center roll to the free standing press to reduce blowing. Bubble problem at free standing press may be eliminated by creating vacuum in the nip. EVsp Web Stabilizer blows air out from the nip, which creates vacuum that keeps the sheet in contact with the press felt. Atthe same time blowing of press bottom rol is prevented. ADVANTAGES: } Elimination of blowing problems > No bubbles before the press nip > No need to control runnability with higher draw TYPICAL RESULTS FROM EV PRESS SECTION OPTIMIZATION PROJECTS: ¥ 10% reduced draw difference ¥ 25% less breaks ¥ 5 -10% higher PM speed ¥ 20% shorter tail threading time ~ Easier printing ¥ Less chemical pulp needed Easier to achieve sheet strength requirements Typical problems of single feted section: ‘Several production parameters effect on the single felted section ‘unnabilty. Especially the fist drying groups of the single felted section are very sensitive to run, because the web is still very wet and breaks easily. In high speed paper machines, runnabilty related problems are even more dificult to control or eliminate. ‘Nips and moving surfaces create significant air flows at web ddown- and uprun, which tends to release the web from the fabric. This typicaly causes sheet flutter, edge ling, wrinkles, creasing and other quality and runnability problems. Also dryer fabric permeability and structure have a strong impact ‘on runnabilty. Suitable type and cleanliness of dryer fabric plays very significant role on single felted section runnabilty Also cleaning system of slalom section fabrics is very important especially in vacuum roll section. Runnabilty is offen attempted to control with draw between the ‘press and drying section, but this often leads to paper quailty problems and breaks. SOLUTIONS: ‘To prevent runnability problems, the web should be always supported in the area between the upper and lower cylinders or ‘Vacuum rolls. Different EV Web Stabilizers are adjusted and customized for different PM positions and configuration. Especially in high speed paper machines the web needs to be totally supported from upper cylinder to the vacuum roll and to the next upper nip. EV EasyGo concept keeps the web the entire way in contact with the fabric, The web release between the upper cylinder and the vacuum roll can be optimized with EV EasyOne high release vacuum area. EV EasyOne optimizes the web release between upper cylinder and vacuum rll lteliminates runnabiliy problems that ae caused when the ‘wot web tonds to follow the upper cylindor surface. EV EesyOne concept ensures optimal sheet release from contact ‘and reduces numberof breaks and defects In EV EasyGo concept the stabilizers are installed ontop ofthe dfilled rolls to support the sheet and create a vacuum inside ofthe vacuum rol. EV EasyGo consept exhausts airthrough the holes ofthe vacuum rll and blows air through the nozzles of the Web ‘Stabilizer eroating vacuum from opening nip tothe closing nip. ‘Sheet is fully supported at sheet down and uprun. Web Stabilizer box does not have any ‘mechanical contactor seal against tho drying fabric, when damagos ofthe fabrics can bbe prevented and cleaning of the drying section is easy. Driling of the cylinders on site in the machine enables minimal downtime. EV EasyGo technology ensures excellent runnability with high machine speed and ropeless threading SINGLE FELTED SECTION OPTIMIZATION {In some cases runnability of single felted section can be optimized even with conventional web stabilizers, Also single felted section heating and ventilation may play significant role in runnabilty. sf blows air out from the area between the upper cylinder and te lower cylinder. ‘The secondary air, which is evacuated, creates vacuum and the web is sucked cffectively against the fabric in the entire area. The air layer isnot able to build ‘up between the web and fabric. Al bubble will not be formed in the upper closing nip because sheot has not stretched during slalom run, EVst Ventilator blows warm and dry hood supply air tothe area below the dryer groups. Vt Ventilator decreases humidity level and itis effective for equalizing air balance and ribution across the entire width of wet paper and therefore economizing ‘steam consumption and improving sheet moisture profil, EFFICIENT WEB STABILIZING AND GEOMETRY CONFIGURATION QUARANTEES SEVERAL ADVANTAGES: D> Optimized support eliminates sheet flutter and reduces break frequency and paper defects such as wrinkles and creasing > The drying process tolerates more process fluctuations and there is no need to control runnability with excessive draw, which enables usage of less expensive raw material > Efficient sheet support also ensures short tail threading time and in some cases also ropeless threading < No sheet fluttering, less breaks ¥ Easy tail threading: 50% decreased tail threading time ¥ Less chemical pulp needed ¥ Better paper quality Typical problems of double felted section: Firstly, the free, unsupported sheet at the beginning of first double felted sections easily breaks and results in paper quality problems. ‘The web stabilizer operates as an eff ie. 3d blowing nozzle. ADVANTAGES: Efficient pocket ventilation results: > Even moisture profile, paper quality and runnability > Energy savings due to decreased steam consumption EVdf web stabilizing concept supports the sheet run and ventlates the pocket. In addition it reduces unsupported dram by 25-50% depending on the machine geometry. EVdf web stabilizing concept increases. Sufficiont pocket ventilation is possible wth Vpv Pocket Ventlators. These units are installed near the fet rll to blow dry supply ai into the pocket. This docreasos the pocket humidity level, corrects pocket ‘moisture profile and eliminates need for overdrying, TYPICAL RESULTS FROM EV DOUBLE FELTED SECTION OPTIMIZATION PROJECTS: ‘Secondly, insufficient pocket ventilation is very common problem ‘in double felted section. Energy waste, uneven sheet motsture profile and runnabilty problems are the results ifthe pockets are ‘not well ventilated. drying capacity as well EVdf web 9 results: > Improved sheet runnability and reduced break frequency due to supported sheet draw > Improved paper quality and shorter tail threading time > Loss need to control runnability with draw, which enables usage of less expensive raw material > Better web and paper strength, and other properties PM DRYING SECTION OPTIMIZATION IMPROVES PROCESS EFFICIENCY RUNNABILITY 15% additional profit > Analyze deeply reasons for runnability and paper quality problems (survey required) > Optimize runnability and quality with machine geometry up-date and web stabilizers > Keep the fabrics and cylinder surfaces clean to maintain excellent runnability and paper quality ENERGY EFFICIENCY 40% energy cost savings » Require accurate and real information on moisture profile and ventilation bottlenecks (survey requit > Ensure even moisture profile with efficient Pocket ventilation > Do not use steam box just to correct moisture profile peaks, but to increase dry content > Overdrying of web causes massive energy costs > Measure and control hood exhaust humidity values and operate heat recovery effectively > Keep the cylinder surfaces and fabrics clean to ensure efficient heat transfer CLEANING 20% savings in steam consumption Even 70% savings in investment costs for fabrics > Invest in cleaning systems for fabrics and cylinder surfaces. This helps to maintain excellent runnability and efficient heat transfer. > Use fabric cleaning systems with low pressure ‘water because their operation and maintenance costs are 0 euros » Prevent contamination on cylinder surface with a constant cylinder cleaning concept to ensure optimal heat transfer | DEEP ANALYZE ON WHAT IS CAUSING PROBLEMS AT DRYING SECTION
