OEB 50 is applicable to aircraft that have SEC C on SEC 1, SEC 2 or both positions, from
production or via permitted interchangeability. The word “interchangeability” refers to the
possibility for an Operator to temporarily install another SEC Standard without reporting to
Airbus, in order to enable aircraft dispatch and ease aircraft operations.
As written in the introduction of the Illustrated Part Catalogue (IPC):” When a part is
installed as spare, this does not change the aircraft recorded configuration. E.g. when PN B is
installed as a spare for PN A (recorded configuration), the aircraft recorded configuration
does not change. The aircraft recorded configuration only changes when an SB is embodied,
thereby ensuring the update of the operational and maintenance documentation“
The After Start Normal Procedure and Normal Checklist of the QRH will not be updated, due
to the fact that OEB 50 will be the only section to contain the procedure. For the reasons
explained in the first answer, the dispatch of OEB 50 is large, although only a number of
aircraft are really affected. In order to alleviate this large dispatch, Airbus decided to limit
the affected locations in the documentation, and include everything in the content of OEB
50. For this reason, Airbus has not created any Temporary Documentary Unit linked to this
Major Event.
Airbus confirms that you can still use your customized After Start Normal Procedure and
Normal Checklist only if you comply with all the following conditions:
The Operator must add the reset of both SEC 1 and SEC 2 in the procedure, and
The Operator must add the reset after both engines start, and
The Operator must add the reset before the flight control check
6. I have some aircraft in my fleet that have SEC C, and some that
have not. I understand that the Operator must apply OEB 50 to
aircraft that have SEC B from production, but that have a
temporary SEC C via interchangeability. For simplification
purposes, is it acceptable to standardize the SEC RESETS on the
checklist for all aircraft, regardless of the SEC Standard?
Airbus confirms that for simplification purposes, and in the timeframe of the applicability of
OEB 50, the Operator may standardize the reset of SEC to non-SEC C Standards. Therefore,
Airbus confirms that the flight crew may apply the procedure of OEB 50 to all A320 Family
aircraft, as long as the OEB applies to at least one aircraft in the fleet.
