Please accept my recommendation for Samantha O’Harra. I have the pleasure of

teaching Sam this year in AP Calculus AB, and she is one of the most gifted students in her
grade, certainly, and she would be truly exceptional in any group. She has always challenged
herself with the most difficult schedule of classes available, and she has managed to balance
excellent grades with her dedication to extracurricular activities, all while maintaining a
positive attitude and being constantly available to help those around her. Samantha is an
unusually ambitious student, as reflected by her grades, but an even more important quality is
her inquisitive nature. I can always depend on her to understand concepts thoroughly enough
both to ask insightful questions and to extend her understanding to unfamiliar problems. Not
only does that help me as a teacher, in thoroughly explaining each step, but it also encourages
fellow students to look more deeply into the material. Sam finds it natural and effortless to
collaborate with others, and her leadership qualities are unusually strong for a high school
student. She is always responsible and persistent and when she commits to something, and
always dependable. Sam is a responsible student and a kind person, helpful to everyone around
her, and every day in my class she supports and respects her fellow students, while improving
entire class with her positive attitude. Her intellectual ability is obvious from her grades and
test scores, but I can relate that the greatest part of what makes her exceptional is not
quantifiable on her transcripts. Sam is always observant and careful, and she is very thoughtful
before acting, but once she decides on a course of action she always makes sure that it is
successful. Outside of class, I have observed Sam excel in speech competitions, and I know
that she is deeply committed to her outside activities, in a sincere and unselfish way. Samantha
has a well-deserved reputation as one of the top students on our campus, and I believe that
anyone who talks to her, even briefly, will be impressed with her obvious intelligence as well
as her profound integrity. On a personal level, I can say that Sam is one of the most alert,
empathetic and ambitious students I have taught, and I am very glad to have had her in my
class this year. Any group or organization would be strengthened with Sam’s inclusion, and I
have no hesitation recommending her. I would be happy to answer any further questions about
