Answer:
A latrine called good or healthy for rural areas must meet the following requirements:
1) Does not contaminate the soil surface around the latrine.
2) Does not contaminate surface water around it.
3) Do not contaminate groundwater around it.
4) Unaffordable by insects especially flies and cockroaches and other animals.
5) Does not cause odor.
6) Easy to use and maintain (maintenance).
7) Simple design.
8) Cheap.
9) Acceptable by the wearer.
In order for these requirements to be met, the ones that need to be considered include:
1) The latrine should be closed, meaning that the latrine is protected from heat and rain, insects and
other animals, protected from privacy and so on.
2) The toilet should have a strong floor, strong foothold and so on.
3) Building latrines where possible placed in a location that does not interfere with the view, does
not cause odor and so on.
4) Wherever possible, cleaning tools such as water or cleaning paper are available.
