REPORT ON NSS CAMP AT GALTARE VILLAGE, WADA

Introduction:

The NSS unit of Shree Halari Visa Oswal College of Commerce organized a camp at Govardhan Eco-
Village (GEV), Wada from 28th December 2017 to 3rd January 2018. Volunteered by a group of 16 girls,
13 boys and the NSS program officer, the group carried out various activities to gain insights into the
daily affairs of resident agricultural community and attempted to address some of their grievances
pragmatically.

Day 1 - 28th December 2017

Activities:

1. Cleanliness drive – Prathamic Shala and Adjacent Areas (10.30 pm to 1.30 pm)
2. Cleanliness drive – Galtare, Village (2.30 pm to 4.30 pm)
3. Feliciation and Speech by Mr. Bhidve (Mumbai University co-ordinator) (5.00 pm to 6.30pm)
4. Interactive session on Life Skills – Friendship by Sudhir Madhav Das (M.Sc, B.Ed) (7.00 pm to
8.30pm)

Brief Summary:

NSS volunteers departed for Galtare village from college in morning at around 7.30 am and reached
around 10.30 am. The agenda was set and upon reaching the volunteers without wasting any time
commenced their first activity i.e., cleanliness drive. It involved cleaning of Prathamic shala (Primary
school) in village. Devotedly cleaning the school rooms and entire ground, watering the greenery
surrounding the school, volunteers proceeded for warmly welcoming Mr. Bhidve (Mumbai University
Co-ordinator). Post Lunch, volunteers continued the cleanliness drive, cleansing the Galtare village.

In the evening, Mr. Bhidve visited the camp site and prathamic shala where he was felicitated. He
enlightened us by sharing his wisdom. He refined our views on what NSS actually stands for and what’s
the fundamental purpose and privilege of being an NSS volunteer. He personally interacted with
volunteers sharing insights on character building and personality development.

A session on Life Skills – Friendship was taken by Sudhir Madhav Das (M.Sc, B.Ed) of GEV.

Day 2 - 29th December 2017

Activities:

1. Yoga and exercise – (7.00 am to 8.00 am)


2. Rural education – Galtare Village (2.30 pm to 4.30 pm)
3. Organic farming (8.45 am to 1.00 pm)
4. Govardhan Eco-village tour – (3.30 pm to 7.00 pm)
5. Session on Yoga and its importance by Madhu Das of GEV (7.00 pm to 8.15 pm)

The day initiated with early morning yoga and exercise session rejuvenating everyone by replenishing
positivity and surcharging fresh energy for the activities of the day. Yoga and exercise were performed
daily in the morning.

After breakfast NSS volunteers proceeded to the rural development office of Govardhan Eco-Village in
order to acquire deeper insights and acumen about organic farming, women empowerment and rural
education and plethora of facilities that rural community can be assisted with.

NSS volunteers collaborated with farmers in their field activities aiding them in organic farming.

Post lunch, tour of Govardhan Eco-Village was organized which has won various national and
international awards and recognition for its efforts in building a sustainable rural community. It helped in
creating awareness amongst us about sustainable development, in-situ sewage water treatment; animal
husbandry, livestock farming, organic farming, rain water harvesting and water purification.

In the evening a session on Yoga and its importance was conducted by Madhu Das of GEV.

Day 3 - 30th December 2017

Activities:

1. Survey of Galtare village – (8.30 am to 1.30 pm)


2. Survey of Vaitarna river – (3.30 pm to 5.30 pm)
3. Quiz competition – (5.45 pm to 7.00 pm)
4. Session on Leadership by Hari Madhav Das (C.A) of GEV (7.00 pm to 8.30 pm)

After Yoga, exercise and breakfast, NSS volunteers proceeded for a survey of Galtare village observing
amenities present in the village and scope for their improvement. Six teams were formed for this purpose
consisting of a team leader and three to four other members. Each team surveyed distinctive and diverse
areas of the village to avoid any reappearance of data. During survey volunteers also visited a school in
Galtare village spending time with students and helping them with their subjects and guiding them about
concepts and innovations to revolutionize the rural structure.

Post lunch, NSS volunteers visited the banks of Vaitarna River and surveyed its aquatic life.

A quiz competition was organized by the volunteers too.

Post sunset a leadership session was conducted by Hari Madhav Das (C.A) of GEV illustrating the
qualities of a leader through his timeless wisdom.

Day 4 - 31st December 2017

Activities:

1. Survey of Dhusal Pada – (8.30 am to 11.00 am)


2. Documentary on Swami A.C.Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada (Founder of ISKCON) – (11.30 am to
01.30 pm)
3. Storage construction for harvested rain water – (3.30 pm to 6.30 pm)
4. Session on Pleasure Hunt by Krishna Gaur Das of GEV – (6.30 pm to 8.30 pm)

The survey activity was continued after the routine morning activity. The NSS volunteers, surveyed
Dussal Pada of Galtare village

Thereafter a short documentary was presented by GEV on A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada wo
founded ISKCON at the age of 70 years. It was truly a heart melting and inspirational experience to know
how he much sacrificed for serving humanity through the divine and timeless knowledge of ancient India.

At dusk, NSS volunteers participated in constructing storage for harnessing the harvested rain water so
that it could be utilized for farming and other allied rural activities.

A session on Pleasure Hunt was given by Krishna Gaur Das of GEV highlighting important underlying
behavioral aspects of human intelligence.

Day 5 - 1st January 2018.

Activities:

1. Horticulture activity – (8.30 am to 01.30 pm) – (2.30 pm to 3.30 pm)


2. Survey of Vaitarna River – (3.30 pm to 6.30 pm)
3. Session on Youth and Addiction by Gopal Das (B.Tech, IIT) of GEV (7.00 pm to 8.30 pm)

New year morning began with Yoga and exercise in the serene beauty of Sahyadris.

Post breakfast NSS volunteers conducted horticulte activity as per of afforestation initiative. The activity
continued piost lunch which included planting saplings, removing weeds, beautifying the landscape, etc.

After horticulture, survey of Vaitarna River was performed. NSS volunteers gained information about
numerous and diversified species of aquatic life in the river.

A session on Youth and Addiction was conducted by Gopal Das (B.Tech – IIT) of GEV. The session
addressed the issues faced by society today and how a NSS volunteer can contribute actively towards
building a stable, sustainable and cheerful society.

Day 6 - 2nd January 2018

Activity:

1. Afforestation activity – (8.30 am to 11.00 am)


2. Guidance by Dr. Snehal Dhonde (Principal – Shree Halari Visa Oswal College of Commerce)

3. Horticulture – (2.00 pm to 5.00 pm)
4. Session on Pleasure Hunt by Krishna Gaur Das of GEV.

They set out for tree plantation activity in Galtare village. The activity was conducted till 11.00 am. Then
the principal of Shree Halarai Visa Oswal College of commerce Dr. Snehal Dhonde visited the village to
check the activites were conducted properly or not.She personally surveyed the entire village and guided
the volunteers in various aspects. The session lasted for two hours. Then lunch was served from 1.00 pm
to 2.00 pm. After lunch (2.00pm) volunteers continued the activity of tree planting and gardening.
Following the main phase of afforestation, there was a sports session from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm. Krishna
Gaur das conducted a session on Pleasure Hunt from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm.

3rd January 2018

From 8.30 pm tp 8.30 pm to 1.30 pm random activities were conducted by NSS volunteers such as
serving small children, helping old people, cleaning the dining area, stocking, serving the animals in
Govardhan Eco village, etc.

Sports session from 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm. Volunteers started preparing for the final program which was to
be held at 8.00 pm. By 7.00 pm all the preparations were complete and volunteers had an early dinner
from 7.00 pm to 8.00 pm. At 8.00 pm, the concluding session began, each volunteer shared her/ her
experience in the session regarding the seven day residential camp. The NSS song, university song and
National Anthem were sung in order to raise the spirit of NSS volunteers. By 9.30 pm the session ended.

On 4th January 2018, after having their breakfast by 9.00 am, volunteers packed and were ready to leave
the camp site. The volunteers left at 9.15 and reached college at 11.00 am. The seven day
residential camp was completed successfully.
