Itwas actually a Christmas assembly but I think there is a parallel! which makes it relevant to our Easter reflections. The assembly was based around a Christmas cracker. Children were encouraged to share ideas about why the cracker was fun. Two children were then asked to pull a cracker, which they did with glee. They immediately discarded the paper wrapper and decorations (picked up off the floor up by a teacher and kept safe) whilst they explored the contents of the inner cardboard tube with great anticipation. Finally the toy inside was found and exclaimed over. The children were then told to go and put the toy in the bin and were given the torn outer wrapping of the cracker to keep All were of course very puzzled. The groans and moans reverberating from the children around the school hall gave testimony to this! Throwing away the treasure from inside but keeping the outside wrapping and frills — how odd! The point of the whole thing is, of course, that is what we do so often with Christmas. We hold on to the decoration, the superficial — and we lose the central message of the season —the birth of God's Son, Jesus Christ, come to live among us. I think this is even more the case with the Christian festival of Easter. For so many, Easter is about chocolate eggs, and maybe a bunny or two when in fact the heart, the very centre of Easter, is the fact that Christ died for us and rose again Easter isn't really about chocolate eggs, or bunnies. The reason we have these associations is because they provide images of new life and that image is tightly bound up with the theology of Easter. At a simple level we could associate new life with the resurrection of Jesus on that first Easter Sunday and this is probably where the images come from. But for Christians, the real message of new life associated with Easter is that through what Jesus did for us on the cross we have the opportunity for new life with Him, with God, starting now and lasting on into eternity. ‘! am the resurrection and the life’ said Jesus. He shows us that death is not the end, and so changesilife. Now that's worth celebrating! So don't throw away the treasure inside the story this Easter. As a result, over the last two years since Eddy Jones took over the management of the side, | have had plenty to cheer about. We have been very successful, that is until a fortnight ago Losing to the Scots and, worst of all, to the French has been hard to bear. Never mind! It's only a game. Maybe we will give the Irish a surprise by beating them at Twickenham on St Patrick's Day! Remember last month's article? Mention was made of seagulls devouring large quantities of turkey muck. Well, recently a team of manure spreaders arrived and spent the afternoon and evening broadcasting the said heap over the field next to us. This was of course much to the alarm of the seagulls who had become quite part of the scenery up here. The next morning dawned to a Spring like day with a warm southerly wind. First up as usual | let Jake out of the house for his morning tiddle. Even he was taken aback by the stench coming from the neighbouring field. This was, of course, the well stirred up turkey manure lying over 40 acres of land! This awful situation continued over the weekend. The house windows remained firmly closed and Lanky Hill became Stinky Hill. Thankfully, come the next week, a tractor and plough arrived and buried the offending stuff some twelve inches down. The only disappointed party was, of course, the seagulls As predicted, the arrival of The Mart brought a bout of bad weather. There was no problem with the amount of snow that fell until the wind started to blow, resulting in blizzards on Wednesday February 28". | remember the mid 80's when drifts of two or three feet of snow completely cut off Lanky Hill from Grimston Village. We were only rescued by Roger Coe's snow plough and digger. Thankfully, nothing that bad happened this year. Aptly named, “The Beast from the East” soon became the “Blast from the Past”. But wait a minute, today's forecast warns of a return of “The Beast”. Shall | ever get my new potatoes planted? Grimston & District Good Companions We began our New Year with a pleasant social afternoon, which included a fun ‘Beetle Drive’. Our ‘Tea Ladies’, Margaret and Ann, treated us to a delicious tea and lovely raffle prizes. We are so grateful for all they do for us each month. Since writing this report Margaret has suffered a TIA, but is thankfully on the mend, and we all wish her a speedy and full recovery back to her usual lively self. Our February meeting was our annual lunch held at the Three Horseshoes - as usual, an enjoyable time of good food and great company. Our March meeting will be the AGM - often considered a dull time, so we also plan to have an activity to help us look forward to Easter time! The StarLincs team came to Pott Row chapel on Monday 12" March with the children visiting throughout the day. The children crawled through a dark tunnel into a large dome where they were able to be immersed in the stars and planets with some super learning taking place. On Thursday 15” March, the astronomers came to see us again and set up the ‘sun’ in our front hall. Abig thanks to the StarLincs team, the King's Lynn astronomy club and Mrs Rice, our Science lead, for organising some super space science. Along with hundreds of other schools in the county, we closed the school for two days earlier this month. We enjoyed the first day of snow on our lovely fields, with snow sculptures and snowmen. Then the roads were too icy and the power was off, so we too enjoyed the snow with our families. Last Friday our PTA provided the children with a disco, a very well-attended evening, with super behaviour and groovy moves from the children. We are hoping to put some of the PTA funds towards improving access to Science resources and to purchase more Robotics equipment. The Morgan family have kindly offered to donate funds to purchase Easter eggs for a giant hunt on our school field. This will take place on the first day of the summer term. We do hope that the sun makes an appearance! We are still hoping to employ an additional Midday Supervisory Assistant for 5 lunch times per week at Holly Meadows, ready for the Summer term. As a result of the fantastic interest and support received, we have been able to run three teams this season, providing organised football for over 30 local girls and boys aged 6 to 10. We are now looking to get more children playing and will be starting up one or more teams for next season, subject to enough interest from players but also from adults, who we'd need to help out with coaching and running the new teams. If your child is currently in school year 1 or reception class (aged 4, 5 or 6), we will be running new sessions for them every Wednesday from 18th April (after the Easter school holidays), 5-6pm, on the field at Holly Meadows School, Vong Lane, Pott Row PE32 1BW, so come along and find out what we're about. All children are welcome, even if they only want to have a run around for an hour on Wednesdays and don't really want to play for a team! Keep Your Car Safe: Norfolk has seen a rise in the number of high value vehicle thefts which use keyless entry. Criminals are exploiting the keyless entry system using radio transmitters to capture the signal from the car's fob. Follow Norfolk Police’ 's simple security steps: Contact your dealer and talk about the digital features in your car. y Check if your keyless entry fob can be turned off. If it can, and your dealer can also confirm this, then do so overnight. v Store your keys away from household entry points and windows. Keeping your keyless entry fob out of sight is not enough. Drivers are also being urged to keep both sets of keys in a faraday cage or pouch which blocks the signal from the fob. v Review your car security and look at devices such as mechanical locks (steering / gearstick/ pedal / wheel clamp) and trackers, which are proven to # deter thieves. Tyre Damage: The Council has passed on its concerns to Police about several incidents where car tyres have been slashed near the Chapel in Chapel Road, anyone with any information on who might have done this, please pass the information onto Police. She painted a very colourful picture of their lives. Brian, her husband, did the structural and heavy work. They moved house several times, each time creating a new garden from scratch. The families that join us each week have enjoyed many fun sessions and taken part in some exciting activities including pizza making and planting daffodils. In February we had a visit from an NHS dental health nurse who told us all about how to look after our teeth properly. Last year we were lucky to secure a health visiting team for TiddlyPotts. They join us on a regular basis for a full session. We are very fortunate to have this service after many months of fighting to get it. The ladies that visit us are very friendly, they give reassurance and advice to families and offer services such as baby weighing. Our last session before the Easter Holidays was suitably themed. We had some lovely things to make at the craft tables including, bunny ears, egg decorating and fluffy chicks. Children (and adults!) could have their faces painted to look like the Easter Bunny! Some opted for some glittery spring flowers instead. We all enjoyed a themed Snack Time with Easter gingerbread biscuits, chocolate nests and hot cross buns. We had an Easter Prize Draw where families won prizes such as Days out to Church Farm and Bircham Windmill. Before going home the children took part in an Egg Hunt, finding eggs hidden around the Chapel. As we look towards summer we hope to hold some sessions again at Holly Meadows School. In May we have Tempest Photographers joining us again to take photographs of all the lovely children that attended our group. TiddlyPotts Stay & Play Group is open to families with children from birth to 4 years. We open every Friday during term time from 9:30 to 11:30. Entry is charged at £2.50 per child. We are fully equipped with baby changing facilities and we are breast feeding friendly. TiddlyPotts is a lovely, welcoming group. If you are new to the area or nervous about venturing out to somewhere new, | can assure you that all the families at our group will make you feel welcome and at ease. If you would like further information you can find our group on Facebook and Netmums or you can email us at tiddlypottsplaygroup@gmail.com We hope to see you soon!
