Supplemental Technical
Specifications
To deliver the maximum value of our tools for our clients and INTEQ, and because of the
increasing demands on tools from an operational and lifetime expectancy perspective (i.e.
highly complex and /or demanding well designs etc.), it has become necessary to explain the
Technical Data Sheets and boundaries in greater depth.
When out of specification operations occur, additional charges for tool usage, maintenance,
extraordinary wear and tear, or for replacement, up to the Lost in hole value, may apply. The
INTEQ Price Book sets forth the elements for determining applicable additional charges for
out of specification operation and should be consulted to determine how associated pricing
will apply to the various operational parameters.

Drilling Fluids
The use of any INTEQ tool in any drilling fluid or other substance (cement, acid, etc.) whether intentionally
introduced or naturally occurring within the formation, which result in non-standard repair and maintenance
procedures or reduced life expectancy of an INTEQ tool is considered an OOS operation. Metal corrosion
and rubber / elastomer degradation are examples of this category of damage.
Maximum allowed Bending Moment is calculated based on the assumption of ideal drilling conditions.
Maximum allowed Bending Moment will be reduced if tools are exposed to corrosive environments (fluids,
gases, etc.). To mitigate the effects of corrosive environments, adjustments to the maximum allowed Bending
Moment must be made taking into consideration such factors.
In water based muds, pH must be maintained between a pH of 9.0 and 12.5. The operation of tools in water
based muds below 9.0 pH or above 12.5 pH is considered an OOS operation. For fresh water based mud
systems, a pH between 8.0 & 9.0 is acceptable.
All drilling fluids contain corrosive elements such as chlorides. Fluids with chloride levels of <20,000 ppm
(20,000 mg/liter) have minimal effects in the down hole environment on the tools. Fluids with chloride levels
between 20,000 and 56,000 ppm (20,000 - 56,000 mg/liter) have medium effect and care must be taken when
coming back out of hole (flushing tools as described further below). When the chloride levels exceed 56,000
ppm (or >56,000 mg/liter) corrosion (even in the down hole environment) could be severe. It is therefore
advised to run corrosion inhibitors when chloride levels are planned to exceed 56,000 ppm (>56,000
mg/liter). As most damage to downhole tools actually occurs on the surface where oxygen is more readily
available to fuel the reaction, all tools must be thoroughly flushed and hosed, externally and internally, after
use in either OBM or WBM systems. The cleaning fluid should have a low chloride content - on the order of
fresh water (<500 ppm / <500 mg/liter). The customer is required to provide facilities and clean water as well
as the required rig time to perform these procedures. Failure to do so is considered to be an OOS operation.
Excessive amounts of abrasive solids and / or extraordinarily abrasive solids will cause extensive damage to
the downhole tool. With increasing mud weights, the total solids concentration in the mud system increases
significantly, the damage (erosion) internally to the tools is a function of flowrate and solids content. As low
density solids are generally more abrasive, an operator must run proper fluid cleaning systems to overcome
this problem. The mud screens (uphole and/or downhole) will be a good indicator of tool erosion on
MWD/LWD tools.

Environmental Conditions
When static hole temperatures equal or exceed 125 degrees Celsius, (257 degrees Fahrenheit) INTEQ high
temperature trip-in procedures must be applied for MWD and LWD operations. Please consult your local
INTEQ representative for specific guidelines.
Extraordinary/Other Conditions
Trip speed must be adjusted based on hole conditions, well profile, and BHA configuration. For example,
when passing through high dogleg areas, changes in hole size, whipstocks, casing shoes, etc. trip speed must
be reduced to a maximum of 150 ft/hr (45 m/hr) to account for these changes in hole conditions. For rib
steering devices it is recommended that operators consult with local INTEQ personnel for further detailed
information.
Vibration Management
The INTEQ model for vibration management is aimed at the prevention of non-visible fatigue damages to all
BHA components, with individual measures to "reset" the tools for further use without any downgrading of
specification, (i.e. downgrading of tools, as is done for drill pipe, is not allowed by INTEQ). Operation of
tools outside of the parameters set forth in the INTEQ model for vibration management is an OOS operation.
In drilling and reaming operations, vibration levels must be closely monitored and maintained within
specifications as per the INTEQ vibration management procedures.
The following table represents the cumulative vibration limits for any INTEQ tool in a single Tool
deployment.

than drillbit induced stick-slip.
