First graders are
beginning to learn about
types of clouds as a part of
our air and weather unit.
Fundations First graders completed a
First graders began Unit 11 this week in Fundations which whole-class KWL chart this
focuses on the syllable pattern vowel-consonant-e. We week, sharing facts they
learned that this syllable pattern: think they Know about
● Has the vowel-consonant-e combination clouds, as well as what
● The e is silent they Want to learn about clouds. We will fill in the “L”
● The first vowel has a long sound section of our chart when the unit is complete to share the
facts we Learned about clouds.
To indicate the long sound,
the vowel is marked with a
macron, the e is crossed out
to indicate it is silent, and Save the Date
the word is scooped or April 10th: Delayed Opening
underlined with a “v-e.”

This week, first graders began writing book reviews! First May 28th: NO SCHOOL (Memorial Day)
graders learned how to give a short summary of their book
without “spilling the beans”. They added reasons why their
book was the best and even added sentences encouraging
their readers to go out and read their book!
