POLICY ON ATTENDANCE AT EXAMS 
 
Attending classes at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is restricted to registered students 
or others, provided the express permission of the course instructor has been obtained.  Please 
be aware, in order for a student to write either a mid‐term or a final exam, they MUST present 
their KPU ID card at the beginning of the exam period.  Students who are unable to provide 
their KPU ID may be asked to leave the room or be allowed to show two pieces of government 
issued picture ID in its place.  If there is any doubt as to the validity of the ID shown, Campus 
Security will be asked to confirm that the ID shown is valid.

COURSE POLICIES 
USE OF EMAIL  Email is the preferred and primary method of contacting the instructor.  Please use 
your Kwantlen email address only.  Include ACCT 3380, Section number (S10) and your 
name in the subject line.  If the name that you commonly use is different from the 
name that you are registered under, please make this clear in your email.  Email from 
non‐Kwantlen email servers may be deleted by the Kwantlen junk mail filtering system. 
 
As a rule, responses to emails will be within 48 hours.  As a general rule, e‐mails will 
not be reviewed over weekends. 
CLASS FORMAT  Classes will include a combination of instructor led instruction, group and individual 
discussion, quizzes, assignments and other activities.  Independent student learning 
will include completing assigned readings and preparing group deliverables.

ATTENDANCE  Attending class is imperative.  In the unfortunate event that a class is missed, it is the 
student’s responsibility to catch up on missed material.  Keep in mind that this course 
is cumulative so missing even one class can impact your entire semester.  Please also 
understand that I can only teach the material once.  If you attend a class but do not 
understand the material, I am happy to help you learn it.  However, if you miss the 
class, please do NOT ask me to teach you the content outside of class.   
 
Be on time for all classes.  As this is a professional course, you are expected to 
demonstrate a professional work ethic and attitude. 
 
 
ELECTRONICS  Cell phones and all electronic devices should be out of sight and silent during class 
time. Laptops and calculators are permitted in class for class work only. Only the Texas 
Instruments BAII Plus is permitted during the examination. 
 
Recording (either video or audio) of classroom sessions is not permitted. The 
instructor retains copyright over their person at all times and does not give permission 
for their likeness to be duplicated in any form or in any manner. 
   
EXAMINATION POLICIES  There are no make‐up midterms or finals.  If you miss an exam, you will receive a grade 
of zero (0%) for that test or midterm exam, unless the absence is due to a medical 
issue or the death of a close family member.  According to School of Business policy, 
“If you will be missing a graded evaluation due to medical reasons, you are required 
to produce a note from a physician. The note must clearly state that the Doctor 
certifies you are ill and the dates that you are unable to satisfy course requirements. 
The University reserves the right to contact the physician's office, not to discuss 
confidential specifics, but to verify that the note is legitimate.  Accommodation may 
require the student to write an exam in the Testing Centre.  The invigilation fee 
(currently $30) is the student’s responsibility.” 
 
No cell phones, computers, data storage devices, ipods/ipads, electronic translators, 
translation dictionaries, programmable calculators, or similar electronic devices are 
permitted in exams.  It is recommended that you bring a watch to exams as these 
other devices are not permitted for time keeping or any other purpose.   Incidents 
involving the use of these devices during exams will be handled similarly to incidents of 
cheating and plagiarism.  See the policy at www.kwantlen.ca/policies. 
 
Cell phones must be turned off, placed upside down on the top left corner of your 
work area and remain untouched throughout the exam.  The instructor will spot‐
check cell phones during the exam to ensure that they are turned off. 
 
Personal belongings (bags, jackets, etc.) must be left at the front of the class during 
exams.   
 
All exams become the property of the instructor. 
 
Washroom breaks are NOT allowed during the exam unless you obtain permission 
from the instructor.

KWANTLEN UNIVERSITY  Cheating is defined as any dishonest or deceptive conduct or attempted conduct by 
CHEATING / PLAGIARISM  which individuals or groups of individuals use or attempt to use unauthorized aids, 
POLICY  assistance, materials and methods to represent their academic work, training and 
standards as other than they are. 
 
Plagiarism is defined as an act in which an individual submits the work of another as 
his or her own. 
 
There is zero tolerance for cheating or plagiarism. All offences will be reported to the 
Dean’s office. 
 
Kwantlen condemns all forms of cheating and will discipline students for cheating in 
the following manner:  All offences will be reported to the Dean’s office 
a) In the event of a first offence, a grade of zero will be awarded for the 
assignment, test paper or analysis. 
b) In the event of a second offence, a failing grade will be assigned in the course 
in which the offence occurred. 
 
c) In the event of a third offence, the student(s) will be expelled from the 
University. 
d) In the event that a first or second offence is serious enough to merit stronger 
disciplinary action, the University may assign a higher level of disciplinary 
action than that outlined above.

prior to coming to class each week. Students should be prepared to commit at least 3‐4 hours each week outside of 
class time. 
 
1. Note all key dates in your calendar.  Schedule regular study time into your weekly agenda. 
2. Attend all classes on time. 
3. Complete all assigned readings prior to class. 
4. Come to class having already read the chapter(s).  
5. Review class material, assignments and seek out help if you don’t understand something.  I will try to provide 
every assistance that I can to allow you to succeed to the best of your ability.
