To Whom It May Concern:

It is with pleasure that I recommend Brittany Lane for a job in your school district. I was her
elementary literacy course instructor during the fall of 2017 within Michigan State University’s
Elementary Education program. As her course instructor, I had the opportunity to engage with
Brittany as a student, learner, and educator. I was able to be part of her lesson plan development and
to watch her put those plans into action with her students.

Brittany is a successful teacher of literacy. Her lessons show great thought and preparation. She is a
dedicated, deliberate, and resourceful educator. She sets high expectations for herself and her
students. Brittany values each student and appreciates every child’s contributions. She has worked
to incorporate differentiation into her lessons, making sure each child has the opportunity to be
successful. She ensures students receive the appropriate supports and challenges. For example, this
includes providing students with different writing prompts, sentence starters, and templates based
on their needs. Additionally, Brittany uses student data to better understand the needs of her learners
and to monitor their progress.

An important strength of Brittany’s is her relationship with her students. She works to find the best,
most appropriate way to instruct and interact with students based on their individual needs. Brittany
has established a caring learning environment by building a relationship with each and every child
in her classroom. It is clear to students that Brittany values them as individual people, not just as a
classroom of students.

In my opinion as a former fifth grade teacher of six years and as a current doctoral student studying
teacher education, Brittany is an excellent candidate for your school. She is a hard worker and a
life-long learner. She continually desires to be a better educator. Because of her dedication to
students, their lives, and their academic success, any school would be fortunate to add Brittany to
their community. I welcome the opportunity to speak with you; please feel free to contact me for
more information.

Sincerely,
