Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Using the app Kahoot, any type of device can be used. If a student needs a special tablet, they have the option
to use it. Also, there could be a paper copy for any students who cannot use tablets or have trouble using the
technology. Having ample time for students to respond is another way to make this activity accessible to
everyone. The students will be able to access this at home as well, so they can have as much time with the
questions as they need
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Prior to completing the activity, there will be lectures, homework and other activities for the students to be
familiar with figurative language. The activity will be done once with the notes and again without the notes.
The purpose of this is to prepare the students for an upcoming test and this is how it will be introduced. It will
not be for a grade and will be accessible to them at home as well, so they can continue their studies.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☒ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☐ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

The teacher will be in charge of the activity. I will be at the front of the room, reading all of the questions and
answers aloud to the class. I will give them a set time to answer each question. They will have longer time the
first time we go through the set and less time the second time. Once I have their input, I know if there are any
misconceptions before the test that we need to go over, or if the students seem prepared to be assessed.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☒ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
https://play.kahoot.it/#/k/f86b24a5-a32c-4599-9158-97876bf94982
Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?
☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☒ No
Why or why not?
The first time we do the set, they will not have the answers immediately after. They will work to correct their
mistakes. After the second set, the correct answers will be displayed, and we will review them.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After the SRT activity, I will go over the missed questions. I will provide more examples and challenge them to
create some of their own that they might see on the test.
How will the data be used?
Even though this is not a “graded” assignment, I will still keep track of who answered the questions and how
they did. This will help me ensure 100% student participation, and I will know if specific students are
struggling. We will go over the data together to see how we did as a class. The names will be kept anonymous
from their peers, so we can collectively go over the data and see how we did and what we need to work on. I
will use the data collected to potentially help students who are struggling. If I see that they are doing poorly
every time we have assessments like this, I can discuss this with them privately and see if we can make a plan
to help the student.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
My personal learning goal is to use the technology to achieve real time data and adjust my teaching
accordingly. I hope to learn what my students understand about the topic and what we need to focus on. This
way, I am not focusing time on concepts they are already proficient in but am able to immediately see what
exactly needs work. I hope the students will use this opportunity to begin studying and note what they need
to study more before the test.
Reflective Practice:
I feel that this activity will engage the students as well as help them in their test preparations. They will have
an idea of what types of questions they will see on the test and what they need to personally work on at
home. I hope that by completing the problem set twice will allow them to reflect on their own notes and
knowledge and how they can grow that in the future. To further extend this lesson, we could use the
questions as discussion points to continue learning.
