PROCEDURE
Introduction (__min.):
Hook/Attention Grabber: Attendance
Assessment of Prior Knowledge: Talk about last time creating a circle diagram
Expectations for Learning and Behaviour: I expect people to work on what is due
Advance Organizer/Agenda: Example questions from section 4.5 & 4.6, finish circle diagrams, homework for next day
Transition to Body: Open up Notebook
Body (__min.):
Learning Activity #1: Notebook Presentation of Examples from sections 4.5 and 4.6
Ensure that they know that questions exactly like this will be on the quiz next class to help motivate them to pay
attention and participate
4.5 – Area of a circle – A= r2(pi times the radius squared) do an example with the radius given, then one with the
diameter given.
4.6 – Interpreting a Circle Graph – go through the example giving them a chance to find the missing percentage, how
many people like a certain type of music, what the possible angles are, and how to write a fraction of the number of
choices in a section with the total number.
Learning Activity #2: Finish the circle diagram from last class if not finished
-students had to do a survey then create a circle diagram either by hand or on the chromebook (which they would print
off from the library) and then hand it in with their name on it.
Learning Activity #3: Exercises
When done the circle diagram, work on pages 12-13 questions 1-4 in the yellow booklet (make sure they practice
creating a diagram by hand as that will be on the quiz)
If finished the circle diagram and the exercises, then finish the homework that is on the board for next class before
the quiz
-p. 151 2 a-c
-p.158 1 a-d
-p. 163 2 a-c
Remind them to show their work on the homework!
Closure ( __min.):
Transition To Next Lesson: Reminder of quiz the next class and homework due for next class (questions above)
