2017 GOALS/OBJECTIVES
HISTORICAL VIEW
America’s Navy has partnered with NSBE as a Board of Affiliates (BCA)
participant for several years, supporting their national and regional
events. This involvement included access to the NSBE resume database,
the annual event career fair, three BCA meetings, inclusion in the NSBE
eNewsletter and career fair postings. NSBE is considered one of the top
tier recruiting partners for Navy as it pertains to underrepresented
STEM talent.

According to the NSBE.org, The National Society of Black Engineers is


one of the largest student-governed organizations based in the United
States, with over 30,000 members worldwide. NSBE is an advocate of
the academic and professional success of African American engineers.
The organization accomplishes this through mentoring, leadership
training, professional development, and career placement. These events
align with the Navy’s mission to recruit and retain a diverse Navy.

SUMMARY

• 20’ x 20’ career fair booth was used efficiently


• NRC/NRD personnel were approachable and very
engaging
• Great use of space; recruiters and premiums were
popular
• Attendees were genuinely interested in finding out
more about officer programs with the Navy

RECOMMENDATIONS
• Sustain the current partnership with NSBE as it has proven to
generate quality leads from STEM-inclined underrepresented
youth (G:E = 96% of leads captured)
• Continue electronic lead generation
• Add an interactive element to the activation
• Have a marker suspended above the footprint to help with
visibility
• Increase level of visibility for the event by logo placement
throughout the conference
• Provide more relatable premiums to the audience; i.e. - formula
sheets for STEM students
• Sponsor engaging competition like the Ten80, Robotics or Lego
experiences, or develop proprietary competition
• Offer the Lean Six Sigma workshop
