Re: Sara Charles
To Whom It May Concer:
Sara Charles was an elementary teaching intern in Granite School District
for the 2017-18 school year. | had the privilege of serving as Sara’s intern
supervisor during that time. I was also her instructor for several undergraduate
courses during this period. This recommendation is based on my extensive
experience with Ms. Charles.
Sara has developed her skills and is an excellent teacher. Ms. Charles is
particularly strong in classroom management and runs an effective learning
environment. Many of her strategies have become so automatic that she
creates a very respectful and comfortable atmosphere. Coupled with these
organizational strategies is Sara's comfortable rapport with students. | have
observed how her third-grade students connect with her and follow her directions
easily. | also appreciated how appropriate Sara was in her approach to teaching
8/9 year-olds. There is always an atmosphere of mutual respect.
Sara is a hard worker. Throughout our year of interaction, Sara has never
falled to complete requirements that | have given her. She is very reflective and
asks very solid questions to analyze every situation and works way beyond her
scheduled work time to be prepared. Sara is such a positive person and itis
always uplifting to be in her presence. Because of this, she is an excellent
member of the team and works well with other individuals to accomplish their
goals. This year she has also exhibited excellent skills for working with parents.
Ithas been a great pleasure to assist Sara Charles in developing her skills
as an elementary teacher. | consider Ms. Charles a solid teacher with
exceptional skills, many beyond the expected level of a first-year teacher. I give
her my highest recommendation
Sincerely,
John H. Funk

To Whom It May Concern:
As the Intern Mentor/Coach at Wilson Elementary, | have had the privilege of working
with Sara Charles for this school year. | have been able to observe her in many educational
settings and situations. Sara exhibits a highly developed level of professionalism both with her
students and her colleagues. She has been a contributing member and driving force with her
grade level team. Her dedication to the education profession is very evident.
Sara’s students know they are cared about. There is a warm, inviting atmosphere in this,
classroom, Routines and procedures are well embedded and free both teacher and students to
focus on the work of learning. Rarely have | been acquainted with a beginning teacher who
implements and manages incentives so well. Sara has been able to incorporate a class reward
system, a table points system, and individual management system that work together as a
structure for students to be recognized for positive contributions. fa student is having 2
difficult time, the issue is handled quietly, and the student integrated back into the class as
quickly as possible, Sara also watches closely for students who may need additional services
and has learned how to work with the SST process to find solutions.
Working at Woodrow Wilson is rewarding, but also demanding with the extra work we
are putting into turning our school into a place where all students achieve maximum growth
cover the course of a year. Sara has handled these expectations and learning opportunities head
‘on, incorporating the target practices into her daily instruction. She constantly looks for ideas
that will help her deliver focused, engaging lessons based on core standards and is open to
suggestions and direction from coaches and administrators.
highly recommend Sara as an educator who will be an asset to Granite District and to
the school lucky enough to hire her as part of the staff, As an educator who Is also a mother
and grandmother, | would be excited to have one of my children in her classroom
